So the admittedly boring but truly decent PM has announced his resignation and the egotistical, pompous Burnham will doubtless become PM. God help the country

That"s right, it has been hijacked by woke lunatics, just like other large sections of UK society.

That's right.

Do you think Farage wants to be boring old PM, though?

Just now you said that Miliband was: absolutely unsuitable for politics, good at finding income streams (for himself) though.

Farage (and Johnson and Trump) wouldn’t settle for less than God.

Restore with their 3 thousand votes to Reform"s nearly 16 thousand?

In a lot of areas that would have been a decider though - I think in the next GE it will be very crucial that 3,000 votes.

KeepPumping · 22/06/2026 14:50

Many Reform voters probably voted for AB because they know he will make it easier for Farage to become PM.

Or maybe all the Reform voters voted Reform. And to those we can likely add a fair chunk of those that usually vote conservative.

I mean it's an odd tactic you are proposing. In one of the most important by elections for a few decades, that people decide not to support the Party they like, and they vote for the Party they dislike. So they can get a PM they don't like. Instead of voting Reform and getting a Reform MP that they do like.

> decent

Decent PMs do not appoint close friends of paedophiles to the most sensitive ambassadorial posting contrary to the advice from the Vetting service

100% this. And this is the least of it. He's been shit on grooming gangs too.

He is not a decent man.

SeriaMau · 22/06/2026 15:31

You could have googled this, like I did:
Burnham previously served as the Mayor of Greater Manchester from 2017 to 2026 and the MP for Leighfrom 2001 until 2017. During his parliamentary career before becoming mayor, he held several cabinet positions, lastly as Secretary of State for Health from 2009 to 2010 under Gordon Brown.

Without wanting to rain too hard on your messaging, the entire media, political, and royal class knew Epstein had a dodgy reputation and yet they all kowtowed to his money ans influence anyway. Ditto Berlusconi, and Trump, and any number of oligarchs currently wafting their money around legislators.

Sorry, but if you want to “drain the swamp” you have to clear out all the private money floating around trying to buy political favour. That would go some way towards keeping the Mandelsons out of the game, but it would also keep the Johnsons and Farages out too…

Yes most people in positions of power (not all) are morally bankrupt and implicit if not explicit supporters of pedophiles. This is not surprising. However, when they are elected representatives we could not vote for these people and refrain from calling them 'decent'. There are in fact plenty of MPs and journalists who are anti-paedophile and willing to stand up against those who let it slide.

I just hope he increases the stat pension, it is a joke compared to comparable countries. Free train travel for OAPS would be brilliant too.

Absolutely no chance of that.
Seen many calls for getting rid of the triple lock.
The country just cannot afford increased expenditure for a growing number of the population.

Oh come on. The Murdock empire wants a right wing government. Rather disingenuous to compare the power of Murdock to The Observer!

I don't entirely disagree, but historically Murdoch has backed winners rather than making them I think - cf: the switch to New Labour. I think if the polls were very different he'd switch again. There are no firm principles there.

I've always thought that was the downward turning point for the UK. If only that had gone the other way.

Interesting that Ed Balls came out higher in the Leadership election than Burnham. Maybe not quite such a lucrative career as David Miliband.

BIossomtoes · 22/06/2026 16:01

Ed Balls has a huge likeability factor, I don’t imagine that had much to do with his policies.

Didn't his rating go up after Strictly Come Dancing? Maybe another MP should resign and get him in there? Would be good to have another competition ...

Reading through these posts it does appear Burnham isn’t as obviously popular as the labour MPs think

Yes, the use of the word "decent" isn"t applicable here, "Good Riddance" might be more appropriate.

Well, I would never have thought of it but I am warming to the idea of bringing in Ed Balls to challenge the leadership .... see my post above.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 22/06/2026 16:12

At this rate, Charles will have as many PMs in his short reign as his Mum had in her 70 years.

Of course not, they are all lost in their little bubble, they are clueless.

It's just utter madness. The last thing this country needs is another period of political instability. What difference do people think Burnham will actually make??

Agreed. He was great internationally, and pretty competent nationally (but very poor at putting that across). He's been bullied the whole time imo. Really pathetic to have 'ode to joy' booming across his resignation speech too - hardly conducive to respect for the office of PM and makes us look ridiculous abroad. And no, we don't need a GE - do you want to give Kemi, Nigel or Zack a go?

That 'Ode to Joy' is the Remainer Lib Dem - didn't he do the same to Truss or was it Sunak. And Boris got the Benny Hill theme tune ....

How many individual posters on this thread ?

It’s the media, they will keep hounding any PM until they are forced to resign. They keep doing this and they will keep doing it. This is why the country can’t get anything done. I’m disappointed that Kier didn’t stand firm and carry on. He was doing OK as far as I can see. What did he do that was so wrong?

There are so many problems and NO money, what do people expect? It’s going to take a lot of time and consistency to get results.

Agree, its our press which are a disgrace. Mainly owned by 5 billionaires who don't even live here and certainly don't even pay tax here, why are we letting them dictate to us how this country should be run? They paid for Brexit and it paid off nicely for them, but not for us, the country is poorer since Brexit, but billionaires are all richer, funny that! Papers like The Express and The Mail are just poison, dripping into people's ears...and don't even get me started on The S*n.
