Good on Kemi!

I'm no fan of Kemi Badenoch, but I'm even less of a fan of Robert Jenrick, and I'm rather delighted to see that she has sacked him and withdrawn the whip before he could jump to Reform.

She has definitely had the last laugh here. He must be spitting bullets!!

I think Farage said ‘Labour figure’ so there’s speculation that it might not be an MP. I’ve seen people discussing possibly Blue Labour’s Maurice Glasman or Kate Hoey (who actually left the Labour Party in 2019) - neither would be a surprise, or a big catch. Could be a small fry, looking to be a bigger fish in a small pond. Or was it Wakeford who defected from Tory to Labour, he might flip back. Who knows?

We’ll have to wait and watch the next Reform media spectacle to find out. I feel like at this point, Reform are somewhere between a cult and a pyramid selling scheme with the razzmatazz of a wrestling federation. I guess when your unelected leader helped improve his profile by eating kangaroo testicles, or something similar, on I’m a Celeb, that probably makes sense.

Edited

Wakeford is a good shout. Might be worth putting a bet on!

NF did say at the press conference that a defector from Labour would be announced next week. Presumably he's signed the contract otherwise he wouldn't be so definite.

Maybe it's Keir. He's had enough.

What contract? Membership or affiliation to a political party doesn’t involve a contract.

It's more likely a deal, like the one he was negotiating with Jenrick.

It does in Reform. NF has referred to contracts. Possibly because it operates as a company.

BIossomtoes · 16/01/2026 17:29

Actually it is a company. I’d love to see the “contract”.

Me too. Probably a fair few restrictive covenants there....

Kemi could hardly do anything else. She did the only thing she could have.

I suspect Jenrick will have the last laugh. Unfortunately some people will now believe reform is more electable given the growing number of “experienced” Tory MPs who have defected.

Bad news for the tories, probably good news for Reform

Definitely good news for Reform as they'll have people with more experience- which they're honest about needing. I think Nigel Farage is an honest and brave politician and will be a great prime minister. He's able to connect with all groups in society.

@MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack

It's a long time before the next election, and the polls may change a lot between now and then!

Sounds like your nerves have changed to panic. I would vote Reform tomorrow if there was general election. However, if necessary, I can wait till 2029.

Yeah can't wait for the NHS to be dismantled.. no wait....🤔

Please don’t vote for Reform.

I’m right of centre, I’m a conservative with a small ‘c’, but truly, Reform are snake oils salesmen and frankly traitors.

They have a cosy relationship with Russia, Farage refuses to acknowledge the mess Brexit has caused, they’ve backtracked on their sensible positions while going full throttle on their ludicrous ones. I don’t trust them at all, I think they’re a national security risk and would just preside over further carnage and corruption.

I’m going to vote Conservative probably.

Agree - please please right of centre people- don’t vote Reform because you think that anything is better than the current government. That’s completely not true. The current government is at least made up of people who believe in the rule of law- are not corrupt- and are in power because they want to do good.

Reform is not run by people like this. It’s run by self serving grifters - only interested in aquiring power- just like the orange one and his henchmen in the USA. If you follow American politics at all it’s 1930s Germany all over again- and we shouldn’t let the same populism anywhere near our seat of power.

I’m astonished that anyone doesn’t consider this current government as by far the worst in living memory.

For the first time ever I feel the government is my enemy. I never thought I’d ever feel anything remotely like that.

Quite simply they are a destructive force. It is possibly made worse because they know they are already living on borrowed time so are adopting a scorched earth policy.

It feels like we are being punished for something we didn’t do. Left wing ideology is poisonous.

I felt that the government was my enemy from 2015 to 2024 - although admittedly somewhat underwhelmed now - largely due to poor communications and a terrible British press. But the biggest f**k up we’ve had politically has been Brexit and the Reform bunch of grifters are responsible for that. How could you possibly think that they should get a turn of messing up even more?

I’m genuinely interested - what is your biggest beef with this government? From what I’ve seen from your posts so far I see only religious fervour.

Agree 100% with you!

I’m not right of centre (more left of centre) but can and do fully respect people of other political persuasions and I thank you for encouraging others to see through Nigel Farage and his 💩.

I truly believe most people whatever their political beliefs want the best for the country and while we can and do have heated debates, we are on whole united in wanting the best for everyone. Unfortunately Reform and Nigel Farage do not fall into this category- they are out for themselves and don’t care about ordinary people.

What's your evidence that they're only out for themselves- seems more like a feeling than facts.
And Nigel Farage was the campaigner for Brexit, he was not in government so couldn't implement it. In spite of the government at the time not making the most of the Brexit freedoms it allowed us to be the first country to roll out the covid vaccine. Also lower tariffs in the trade agreement with America. The EU is a failing institution - most other countries in the EU are doing badly.

He stepped down his own MPs to allow the Tories to win a majority in 2019 because he was happy with Johnson’s Brexit plans, and he played a prominent role in Brexit even being a thing by making up lie after lie about how great it would be.

He lies every time he opens his mouth, he’s a fucking charlatan and a conman, and too many people have been taken in by him and blinded to it all. It’s a cult, same as MAGA.

He says he doesn’t want foreign influence in our politics, yet thinks it’s fine for Trump and Musk to medal in it, goes to Davos to increase his foreign influence on the world stage 🤣

He said he had never met Nathan Gill when he has been pictured with him, lies about the safety of our streets (most notably London), he parrots Russian talking points because he’s a Russian asset, not to mention endorses a paedophile. He’s a threat to our national security while telling you he cares about Britain. He’s a joker.

11 Tory MPs on defection watch list over fears more could join Farage’s Reform | The Independent

"Launching a sensational attack on her former shadow justice secretary, Ms Badenoch also said Mr Jenrick “tells a lot of lies and you can’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth”. She also claimed his defection was because “he doesn’t think that he could be leader” of the Tory party."

This comment for a start. You could probably do a PhD thesis on the topic but sadly, I haven't got the time - I'm off to watch Traitors, maybe they could do a political version we've already got some top Traitors for that show Farage and Jenrick...

I recall the Louise Haigh and Angela Rayner debacles dragging on endlessly so we have very different memories. Both perfect examples of Starmer's weak, ineffective leadership.

Endlessly? Hardly.

Teanbiscuits33 · 16/01/2026 19:48

Having Johnson implement Brexit was the best thing that could have possibly happened for him. It meant that Johnson had to shoulder all the blame and he could pop back up, completely unscathed, when the country got pissed off that their standard of living had nose dived.

Brexit was influenced by Russia to weaken the West, and Nigel knowingly colluded in it for his paymasters.
