Labour Supporters - Do you think it would help if KS was replaced?

I am a life long labour voter. Like many I am incredibly disappointed, in fact I’m devastated by the direction of the current government.

Something needs to change in a pretty radical way or we are opening the door to Deform.

I’m torn between thinking the last thing we need is another revolving door at no 10 but I have lost any confidence that KS is able to lead us out of the mess the tories left us in.

Would it be a good thing to change leaders if this was possible and if so who should it be?

You don’t need the media to see what is going on.

watch live interviews. Attend his rallies. He is not strong.
he bends the knee to whoever he is told to

How do you get live interviews? Via the media. 🙄 We all rely on it.

And how can the media manipulate a live interview if you watch it live rather than via clips later on? 🙄

As this thread is for Labour supporters aimed at having a constructive discussion on who would replace Starmer, if anyone: who do you, as a Labour supporter, think should replace him? (Apologies if you’ve already said).

It’s not manipulated. Starmer gets it wrong by himself.

I will vote Reform - I am educated and never thought I would say this but the establishment needs a kick in the arse. Of course Reform won’t last but it will kick existing parties in shape. Sorry but nothing can stop them now. I am desperately hoping for a new general election next year

I keep seeing these posts about an election next year. Can you explain how you came to the conclusion that there is a possibility of this?

I don’t understand how people who presumably have an understanding of the British electoral and parliamentary system can come to the conclusion that a general election before 2028/29 is possible but I’m prepared to be enlightened.

You’ve answered your own question - the level of understanding of the electoral system is woeful. It never ceases to amaze me.

I wonder whether people are confusing leadership elections with general elections.

And they treat it as a popularity contest. Like Big Brother or Eurovision or something.

Papyrophile · 30/09/2025 09:44

There are a lot of regional/local elections next May, obviously, and the expectations are that Labour will pay a price for everything that has gone wrong but I reckon they will plough on until 2029 regardless. And by then, they will be hoping the unforced early errors are forgotten and that progress is visible.

I'm a floating voter (socially liberal but economically conservative) and very centrist so sceptical of any politician who wants me to believe that they have all the answers.

The recent reshuffle was a step in the right direction. This afternoon's speech needs to be a performance!

DottieMoon · 30/09/2025 09:55

He needs replacing. He is a disgusting excuse for a human being.

The ‘son of the toolmaker’ line at the GE then. It seemed to work on many.

I suppose technically the government could lose the confidence of the House but that would mean the vast majority of the 100 or so Labour MP's would have to vote against their own party ( wouldn't put it past them). But even they would rather stay in a job and try and elect a more Left wing leader. I suppose then if the IMF stepped in and imposed some harsh conditions on us, like Greece then who knows what would happen? Next year? I doubt it.

How to avoid the Q. You accused right wing media of manipulation, I'm saying how can they manipulate a live event? On all channels?

You have been quick to try to eject posters from anti-Labour threads when you don’t agree with their views telling them to find other threads. So why are you and the usual suspects weighing in on this one?

Yes, what’s disgusting about him? What has he done to merit that?

There are 401 Labour MPs, not “100 or so”. The only way the government could fall is by losing a vote of confidence. As there are 241 voting opposition MPs, even if they all voted against the government that would still require 81 Labour MPs to vote themselves out of a job. That’s never going to happen.

And that’s before you even consider that half the remaining Conservative MPs are at risk from reform so they are unlikely to vote for their own demise 3 years early.

An interesting analysis of Labour’s first year. It proves that PR -wise they are not doing a good job showing what they have achieved. But also the very public things like immigration and the economy they are still struggling to control. Given the utter mess they inherited I think they’ve done an ok job, but only as long as they tackle housing, immigration and the economy much faster and harder from now.

Broken promises? What Full Fact’s Government Tracker does (and doesn’t) tell us about Labour’s first year – Full Fact

Labour’s lagging in the polls and many claim it’s failed to deliver what it promised. Our analysis of manifesto pledges paints a less clear-cut picture, but the government needs to do more to give us the information to judge.

Oh yeah I dont know why I typed 100. As I was typing it I thought that wasnt correct!

tobee · 30/09/2025 17:46

I love the fact that people don't think the Daily Telegraph, Mail, Express and Sun etc don't make up stuff about the government. It's their raison d'être.

This hilarious notion that all it would take would be for a Labour government to do a good job and there would be nothing negative to report. 😆🙄

Who's pushing the immigration story so it's such a big thing? It's definitely an issue but people are pushing a ludicrously exaggerated agenda about it for their own benefit. As if Reform getting in and repatriating anyone who has had an ancestors from abroad, any "foreign blood" would solve everything else. It's all about distracting the electorate to hate on the guy down the road, blame the other guy. Trumpian tactics

I think that is really harsh. My impression is that he is a hard worker with the right intentions but the role has stretched his competence to breaking point. He is a civil servant not a leader.

Timeforabitofpeace · 30/09/2025 19:05

Keir Starmer need to talk policy. Never mind what that snake Farage will do-what will HE do? I still don’t know.

Bumblebee72 · 30/09/2025 19:11

If I was trying to solve the Labour problem I'd go old school and bring back David Miliband. Most of Labour's issues can be tied back to backing the wrong brother.

BlueSkySunshineDay · 30/09/2025 19:13

I cant BELIEVE they had him banging on about the fact that his dad was a flippin toolmaker AGAIN at the conference! JFC 🙈
