Labour - death by a thousand cuts…

Labour - another day, another calamity…

Utter treachery and deceit from our illustrious government.

The Government’s own estimate of the cost of giving away the British Indian Ocean Territory to Mauritius is almost £35bn, according to documents released under the Freedom of Information Act – far higher than the £3.4bn figure Sir Keir has previously used in public.

Labour ministers now face claims that they misled Parliament and the press with an “accountancy trick” to hide the size of the bill from taxpayers.

Under the terms of Sir Keir’s deal, the UK will give up the Chagos Islands by the end of this year and lease back the Diego Garcia military base, a facility built there in the 1970s that has been used by UK and US forces.

The cost of the agreement has been fiercely disputed. Sir Keir claimed in May that it would be £3.4bn over 99 years, accounting for inflation and other discounts, but the Conservatives said it would total £30bn.

An official document produced by the Government Actuary’s Department shows the cost of the deal was first estimated at 10 times Sir Keir’s figure, at £34.7bn, in nominal terms.

It explains how the cost was lowered by the Government using inflation estimates, then reduced again under a controversial accounting method sometimes used for long-term projects.

The total cost, which ministers refused to release to Parliament, is equivalent to 10 Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers, or more than half the annual schools’ budget.

The Left have an inviolable self-image of being 'the good guys', and more moral than the Right. All based on their policy of spending other people's money on.. well.. anything: no matter how disproportionate and no matter what the end result is. No, it doesn't make sense.

The original drive of Labour was to equalise power between owners and employees, but that battle has long been won. Labour can't let go of their own revolutionary self-image though, so now it's become all about redistribution for it's own sake - to absolutely anyone - regardless of consequences.

What's really strange is that they had the rest of us convinced for a while about them being the 'nice guys'. We were actually apologetic about being Right wing, about seeking to conserve what's good in our society, about believing in fairness rather than the equality of outcomes which levels down to give a worse life for everyone.

The silver lining to this Labour government is that they've made it so apparent how dishonest and hypocritical they are - in addition to how completely incompetent - that I don't think anyone other than complete Labour cultists could possibly still suggest that the Left are more ethical than the Right. And Labour's misogyny and lack of care for vulnerable people - just because they perceive them as lower down the pecking order in the oppression olympics (eg the grooming scandal girls, women in prisons forced to shower with men etc) - make it very obvious that their 'Kindness' is anything but.

There should be no dilemma now for those who think a Centre Right approach is a better way to achieve a healthy society which works well for inhabitants. I have to admit I'm very much hoping that will be the Conservatives who win the votes rather than the newer parties. But either way, the decision should be made actively and thoughtfully, now that the Left are no longer in a position to invent false narratives which they use to manipulate people through shaming and hypocritical and mendacious social judgement.

Excellent summary 👌

I'm worried that Labour are going to go a bit Trump and gerrymander any election to try and stay in no matter what. They won't give up power easily now they have it.

Agreed. I wouldn't put it past them.

100% I mean that's what lowering the voting age is all about.
So 16 year olds have to be protected from the Internet yet are responsible enough to vote?? Make it make sense!

See Starmer’s approval rating has now dropped to -55, lowest ever for him, amid growing concerns about small boat arrivals, the economy and justice.
