Who would you vote for in a general election tomorrow?

If the next GE was tomorrow, who would you vote for? I've been unimpressed at decisions made by Labour since they came in and just don't have much faith in their long term plans. I've never even considered voting Tory, but also don't really see Labour doing much more to improve things for anyone. Will be interesting to see how things are in a few years time when the next GE comes round. Am I missing some really good stuff Labour are implementing?

Right now, Reform but the election is four years away so I could easily change my mind. Bob Vylan's vile chants at Glasto did a great pr job for Reform BTW.

F35s which we can only use if America allows us to.

Sort of...

They're "A' model F-35s ..prime reason for getting them is to make converting pilots onto the F35 Bs that the RAF/RN already have or have on order cheaper. No US permission needed for that.

If there was a conflct there's been no info as to any US restrictions on their use in a conventional role.

The nuclear role is where US permissions would be definitely be needed but for context and to get back to the.politics that has been the position with some previous US built RAF operated aircraft before, during the Cold War, under various UK Governments, Labour or Conservative.

Whoever starts to be honest with the electorate about how broke the west is and what we are going to do about it.

Yes. Not great.

Labour.

  1. I think he's doing a good job of tricky international politics- he's good at facing into practical things that need negotiating like the tariffs.
  2. Domestically he's willing to tackle deeply divisive topics like the welfare bill
  3. I see some focus around NHS
  4. I like that he seems to have integrity cf Boris- I don't think he's having affairs or having his house wallpapered at a million dollars, the news is about the politics not the personality
i think they are crap at PR, have made some Mis-steps and underestimate the need for vision/hope/inspiration as well as getting to work on all the tricky stuff

Number 4 did make me chuckle in a sardonic sort of way.

We must remember that most of the mainstream media are owned by tories, so they will always be on the Tories’ side, whether they’re in government or not. This is one reason we’re hearing so little about what Labour are achieving, and Starmer is not good at telling the press himself.

The media exist for profit and run with the crowd. They had no issue with capitalising on partygate onwards re the tories. It’s just what they do. Public sentiment is not currently with Labour. Mn is a bit different there.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 29/06/2025 08:09

I can't believe that the BBC went ahead and broadcast that, offering only a content warning as mitigation, is incitement to violence the same as libel inasmuch that publishing it is a separate offence? Anyway - I should probably find a more specific thread, but I do agree with you Freysimo that this feeds into Reform's narrative that our institutions reflect a bias that most of the electorate find worrying.

I don't think any of them can fix the decline.
I think we need a revolution

@hagchic can you tell us more about this revolution? How will you be contributing to it?

Try going back over the thread. So far it just 15.

15 out of 150 posts.

Mn threads won’t tally with what the split is atm

No, but I'm hoping some will turn up 😢

I don't think you need to actually " contribute" to a revolution. I think traditionally we all just join in with whatever revolutionary activity is happening. Although we need a Bastille to storm so we might fall at that hurdle.

We definitely need a fundamental change in the political system though. It's not a functioning democracy if no elected government does what it was elected to do. For whatever reason. The civil service or Blob is often cited by ministers as being a big problem.

I think I'd vote Labour as I think the most important bit of government right now is international relations. They seem ok at it.

Im not enamoured with thier domestic policies. I think they have hampered employment and frightened disabled people. I also think some of the public need to see some results of stopping boats.

But I do think some proper conversations with the electorate about managed decline are needed.

I think none of the parties are doing that and some are ridiculously suggesting tax cuts and more money just by turning boats around. Hmm.

No need for snobbery. You write sentences with "fucking" in them for no particular reason.

What a nasty bullying comment. If you don’t like the argument, then counter it. No need for such rudeness

I’d vote for whoever has the best chance to remove Labour from Parliament.

They are quite simply appalling and will destroy the country as they are economically illiterate.

Im genuinely astounded that a single well informed person would ever vote for Labour.

I've got to agree. Starmer trying to pass off his benefits U turn as due to 'being distracted' is an absolute insult to the public. The man is clearly desperate to try to win back the millions of voters he's lost and has shown he'll try anything to do so. If he was genuinely 'distracted' then he's clearly unfit for office and needs to resign.

The guy's never in the country! I'm not surprised he was distracted.

I didn't see that argument on this thread? Are you on the right thread? In fact are you on the right forum? you sound a tad angry?

This is silly. Have you ever said it about any other country, maybe somewhere you've visited? "Oh but what could they possibly mean by 'their culture', sounds racist to me!" Or indeed have you ever noticed cultural differences when you travel? If so then don't ask daft questions.

Nothing encourages them to revisit their ‘views’. People wanted us out of the EU because they resented the growing Polish community.

Now, they are still whining about other immigrants and ‘the boats’.

Did they? The Polish community had absolutely nothing to do with my vote for brexit, nor anyone I know

I agree. Most stupid and pathetic thing he's said - and he's said a lot of stupid and pathetic things. He's not fit to be PM and completely out of his depth, as is Rachel. They both need to go, but heaven help us if Raynor gets the PM job! I'd only have to hope that someone with at least half a brain like Wes Streeting would get the PM job as he does seem to be best of a bad lot. There's no way neither Starmer nor Reeves will be in their jobs this time next year.
