Who would you vote for in a general election tomorrow?

If the next GE was tomorrow, who would you vote for? I've been unimpressed at decisions made by Labour since they came in and just don't have much faith in their long term plans. I've never even considered voting Tory, but also don't really see Labour doing much more to improve things for anyone. Will be interesting to see how things are in a few years time when the next GE comes round. Am I missing some really good stuff Labour are implementing?

Lib dem. I'm not traditionally a lib dem supporter but our lib dem MP is the only person I'd vote for. The rest are hopeless. I vote for the one who will do the most for my town.

I agree. Most stupid and pathetic thing he's said - and he's said a lot of stupid and pathetic things. He's not fit to be PM and completely out of his depth, as is Rachel. They both need to go, but heaven help us if Raynor gets the PM job! I'd only have to hope that someone with at least half a brain like Wes Streeting would get the PM job as he does seem to be best of a bad lot. There's no way neither Starmer nor Reeves will be in their jobs this time next year.

Wes is clearly building up to a leadership challenge isn't he. How long until he goes in for the kill I wonder?!

OurMavis · 29/06/2025 20:03

I had a discussion with DC in their late 20s about this yesterday. Both voted Labour and both happy so far and would vote labour tomorrow, as would I. I'm happy that some of their policies are looking long term instead of just the next 5 years.
Interesting because one is centre right leaning (IMO- he wouldn't necessarily agree) and the other quite left wing. Having a labour government is new to them as all they've known since being able to vote is Tory.
I am a floating voter who has voted for all parties before. I'd never vote green or libdem but wouldn't rule out Tory. I think reform would collapse like a pack of cards but I have no doubt they are saying the right things for a large percentage of the population. Labour need to take note.

Fluffyholeysocks · 29/06/2025 20:37

I do like Wes, although I'm not sure he's a leader yet. My advice would be to wait, bide his time as the PLP doesn't have an over - abundance of talent to choose from for Ministerial posts. I've often thought Andy Burnham saw the decline in talent in the PLP and decided to run for Major instead. If Starmer goes, I don't forsee much improvement tbh, too many lightweights in the important Minisiterial positions and no obvious replacements.

@Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget what do you mean when you say “our culture”?

The British culture what did you think I meant?

boobot1 · 30/06/2025 06:37

Politically homeless. Theyre all horrific. Sad state of affairs. I've never known it be so bad.

pilates · 30/06/2025 06:47

Unsure, but definitely not labour.
KS is a weak leader.

Freysimo · 30/06/2025 07:34

I agree that Wes is the best of a bad bunch but he has a very small majority in an area with a lot of Muslim voters, so he's vulnerable.

Labour.

Genuinely shocked by so may people saying Reform.

Why?

BIossomtoes · 30/06/2025 09:10

Whichever party stands the best chance of keeping Reform out for me. Ideologically I’m Green all the way.

mangoglow · 30/06/2025 09:13

Not sure, would normally vote Labour but they have been very unimpressive, especially with how they have been targeting disabled people with their cuts. This current labour government looks much like the Tories at the moment.

nomoretoriesforme · 30/06/2025 09:45

I will be voting Reform

The thing is I have no idea what you mean by “British culture”. Could you explain?

Do you think it exists? Is it for other countries not just us or that all countries are without the idea of a culture

Fearfulsaints · 30/06/2025 11:36

Culture is a hard concept to pin down. Plenty of British people would refute the idea of a British culture saying they had Welsh or Scottish culture for instance.

But I definitely feel foreign in other places.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 30/06/2025 11:39

REFORM .. Like I did in the last G.E

Ah, another “am I missing something “ thread.

It might be easier to separate things into the component parts of the UK (there is a Scottish, Welsh, N Irish and English ethnicity) and then the concept of being "British" which is a nation and that you can apply for.

Gddsdww · 30/06/2025 17:26

I miss Boris in Number 10, Rishi in the Treasury. Good old fashioned private sector investment strapping the economy. None of this statist nonsense.

Youneverknowwhatyourgonnaget · 30/06/2025 19:23

Being British to me means being polite. We say sorry when someone bumps into us, when we see a queue we get to the back and wait our turn because we appreciate fairness. We hold doors open for anyone regardless of age or sex. We treat women as equals and put children’s safety as a priority. We do not marry more than one person and never family members. We love dogs and sport, tea, street party’s royal celebrations we give the upmost respect to our armed forces both past and present. We are not dramatic we keep calm and carry on. A conversation often revolves around the weather and mainly a moan.i could go on and on! I am not British because that is where I lay my head I am British to my bones. One of absolute favourite things is to travel and experience different cultures but having one of our own seems to not be allowed which is ridiculous!

Luckily, they've no chance of keeping Reform out, they are unlikely to get even a handful of seats.

Ironically, recent Tory governments have been pretty socialist, i.e. not targeting the disabled and OAPs, increasing benefits during Covid etc. Labour seem to be the opposite! Very strange really.

I know. That’s why I’ll vote with my head, not my heart. Just as my vote last year was cast with the sole intention of getting the Tories out, next time it will be to keep Reform out.

herbalteabag · 30/06/2025 19:50

Not Tory and not Reform.
Probably Labour because I like my Labour MP but only for that reason.

AguNwaanyi · 01/07/2025 19:18

The same as this year; an independent candidate if there was one I believed in, otherwise no party at all.

I understand more now why many divested from electoral politics a while ago and the guilt trip that a vote for anything other than labour is a vote for the Tories didn’t work on me last time round.

Labour has completely lost sight of what their party is supposed to stand for. I think joining a union and supporting more local advocacy is a better way to go.
