Why do people like reform?

I haven't been keeping very up to date with politics. I usually vote Labour. I don't really understand the popularity of reform, could anyone explain it to me?
As far as I'm aware Farage doesn't actually do anything when he wins a seat somewhere so I'm not convinced they'll actually do anything? Is it just a protest vote that's gone a bit far?

Why don’t we just use all the money saved by Brexit?

I'm sure you know any reserves of money the UK had from Brexit or elsewhere went to pay for COVID.

LudvillasCave · 02/05/2025 19:37

Why do you think they didn’t want to?

probably multiple reasons. Ask Rishi, he talked a good game but did fuck all.

EasternStandard · 02/05/2025 19:40

I think the issue can be addressed but it’ll take a mandate via a GE to get there

I tell you who needs to give it a rest, ignorant people. People who haven't got a clue what they're talking about because it's very boring.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I'm sure you're interesting sometimes 🤔

Can you name any of the multiple reasons?

Entitlement to vote is based on age. Nothing else.

People who haven't got a clue what they're talking about because it's very boring.

So, what compels you to post/read comments?

FuglyBitch · 02/05/2025 19:38

You’re completely correct “Because, like MAGA voters, they think that theywill be protected by the party. It will target others.
They are wrong.” just like the lies on the red Brexit bus

Reminds me of that Chris Rock bit about people dancing to tunes with misogynistic lyrics.

“He ain’t talking about me!”

Ineedanewsofa · 02/05/2025 19:45

Not RTFT but Reform cleaned up round here because of the farmers - Labour have totally ruined any chance of getting back to power for a generation because of the farm inheritance policy.
More generally I think it’s because it’s human nature to put yourself first (survival of the fittest and all that) and Reform are the only party telling people they aren’t awful for wanting to do that.
I would never vote Reform but as I’m sure a lot of other people have said, the major parties need to actually listen to the concerns of the public and not just dismiss them as thick/racist/TERF/whatever. People may be all those things but they still get to vote…

This was happening 20 years’ ago with Gordon Brown

In case you’re not joking, it’s estimated that Brexit cost the UK economy approximately £140billion net (so far).

What does Reform have to say about the damage caused by Saint Boris’s lockdowns? Probably “what lockdown?”

It was caused by illegals?

Yes I don't know why they peddle this line either. I obviously vote with my family in mind first.

It's a good point. People don't seem to care about others anymore: the NHS, people on disability benefits, the vulnerable. The NHS and welfare state was meant to look after everyone in society and society agreed by paying towards it.

Now people want to get health insurance and pay for themselves. They want lower taxes despite the consequences.

I noticed that for weeks before and after the last election, the right wing press was full of tips and tricks on how to hide your cash. Then people complain about nothing working.

TheGoogleMum · 02/05/2025 20:20

Reform are so popular now they can't all be "thick racists" as one poster put it. I do get why people might be sick of labour and conservative but I'm struggling with reform being the answer. I have a sneaky suspicion that their popularity will continue and they'll be the next government though! So I guess we'll find out

I live in Scotland now thankfully but am from a deprived northern town.

Reform have always had the support of the low hanging fruit, in fact some of these low hanging fruit will now be councillors. They can be complacent in this support as the underlying racism and stupidity will always help them.

The reason they have done so well on top of this is due to Labour stupidly pandering to the low hanging fruit and abandoning working people and anyone with aspirations.

So we have the double whammy that has united an electorate. Unfortunately reform seem to be offering something that most in England can get behind, even if they don’t agree overall.

They will be the largest party in 2029 and that will be an ugly day for British History. Reform UK are dangerous and cannot be ignored.

Thankful to live in Scotland.

I find that people who vote for Reform lack the art of critical thinking. They tend to react emotionally to subjects and don't appear able to interrogate the topic to work out what's actually true and then to discover the graceful, humane, compassionate way to react and to decide

They say things like "I'm not racist but...."

And they simply cant seem to extrapolate that Reform is a business not a political party and the ideas they espouse either simply wouldn't work (when do we see their ideas budgeted!!??) or would cause extreme hardship for many. Also some of what they suggest is cruel, bigoted, racist and xenophobic.

As in romanctic relationships when someone shows you who they are, believe them and take their red flags seriously.

Look at the MAGAs. I mean, Jesus! What they believe is absolute tripe. They too seem unable to interrogate subjects critically, using intellect rather than emotion
