outrageous exploitative overreach by Trumps regime to try and dictate how the Uk handles free speech. How dare he, I hope Starmer holds firm.
Trumps administration, the very same who cancel press access if they refuse to use the approved language of the regime ( Gulf of Mexico). This would take the UK to a very dark place.

All over the world he’s making outrageous requests and claims.
51st state, Greenland USA, 100+ % tariffs.

PhilippaGeorgiou · 16/04/2025 17:23

This is one of the areas of politics that I don't usually let myself stray into but...the UK voluntarily tore up loads of its former trade deals because some people complained about not liking being dictated to... by Europe. And the answer from the Leave group was often "we'll trade with the USA instead". In particular it's interesting who at least one of the proponents of that line of thought was. Well folks - you got what you wanted. Dependant on lots of trade with the USA and not being dictated to. Oh, err....

Agreed and constant stream of Kremlin bullshit. I hope the UK stands firm. We cannot align with this, I’ve never wished more to rejoin the EU

Im on the look out for chlorine washed chicken as part of these trade talks. Food must be labelled clearly so the consumer can choose.
Agree id align with Europe than America. Stupid Brexit.

I agree, it was always a horrendous choice.

She is utterly vile, such a hypocrite and conspiracy theorist. She wouldn't even allow live questions from the audience. They were all submitted prior to the town hall. And then MTG insulted and demeaned anyone who asked a question that was critical of trump or Musk. She is so antagonistic and clearly revels in winding people up 🤮🤮

logicisall · 17/04/2025 08:13

Will MTG face an insider trading investigation? Answers on a postcard please.

logicisall · 17/04/2025 08:18

The researcher was reportedly then accused of writings “that reflect hatred toward Trump and can be described as terrorism”.

Criticism=Hatred=Terrorism

Trump maths.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 17/04/2025 08:24

We have to stand strong and not allow ourselves to be bullied by the Trump regime.

I think some Americans in general fervently believe that even if their laws do not exist abroad, they certainly should and "abroad" is in awe of how the USA does things. Which isn't true.

The French do this too. I come across French people a lot at work, and a common complaint is, "But this is not how we do it in France!" No, because you are in England/The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland!

To be fair, some British people do this a lot as well.

Yes, there's a thread on here where people are incensed at posters who dare use 'American English' on this site.

@Circularmadness As an American living in the UK, I very much hope Starmer holds firm against this moronic orange autocrat, and agree on MTG.

@PhilippaGeorgiou, yes to that, too.

logicisall · 17/04/2025 08:45

It must be difficult to stand strong when this is happening. I'm hoping a strong person will arise on the political scene to speak out against Trump. A union leader perhaps?

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/04/12/politics/trump-krebs-khalil-taylor-crackdown-dissent-what-matters/index.html

It's Starmer's job to stand strong, not the job of a union representative.

Sorry, correct.

Maitri108 · 19/04/2025 12:29

But the US wants to see laws on hate speech repealed as well as plans for a new online safety law dropped.

Because the US government is being run by billionaire tech bros.

NeverReadUlysses · 19/04/2025 12:33

JD Vance doesn’t get to control UK laws.

StandFirm · 19/04/2025 12:37

NeverReadUlysses · 19/04/2025 12:33

JD Vance doesn’t get to control UK laws.

But he wants to. That's the outrageous thing about this regime. They want us to be in their orbit and abide by their ideology like the USSR controlled Poland, Czechoslovakia and others back in the day.
True vassals is what they want.
Guess who is in line for Governor? Lined up for 2029? Reform 'Sovereignty is all' is ironically in bed with them but oh no, the biggest threat to the UK is the only bloc that is still trying to uphold liberal democratic values! And OF COURSE the first thing Reform will do is take us out of the ECHR - wonder why?? Anyone fancy a trip to El Salvador?

StandFirm · 19/04/2025 12:39

I really hope we're not stupid enough to fall for that but there is so much loathing of liberal progressive values out there I'm not sure it's possible to resist the sweeping tide. Dark times.

StandFirm · 19/04/2025 12:45

Lisa Murkowski is as Republican as Republican gets! She's senator for Alaska. "retaliation is real" "we are all afraid"... if that doesn't creep you out, I don't what will:
