So I have to avoid the news completely, unfortunately I work in a pub so lots of customers talk about it a lot so I can’t always avoid it .. all I keep hearing is about national conscription and it won’t be long before ww3 starts and it will be an all out nuclear war etc? Does this make anyone as in edge as me like ridiculously anxious daily 😔

No

Wolfiefan · 06/04/2025 22:07

Ignore their bollocks.

Izzy24 · 06/04/2025 22:08

Ignore.

Don’t doom-scroll.

WinterMorn · 06/04/2025 22:09

Oh not this again. I really feel that some of these posts are bad faith actors stirring the pot for the sake of it.

No

As above 👆

I think the world is at a bit of a turning point, has been for a while but we are at the peak of the turn so to say. And it will be less safe. But no I don’t think that WW3 is starting right now.

TheDogsMother · 06/04/2025 22:18

They are talking about national conscription ? I’m not being goady but just genuinely interested. Who is going to war with who ?

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 06/04/2025 22:21

On the daily mail today i awoke to the headline that uk had been warned to get survival kits in case putin hits the gas supplies. This was not on any reputable news sources. They have been doing this for years now stoking the fire, usually through certain periods of the year. Go and get on with your life. Concentrate on your little circle that you can influence as even if it did happen there’s nothing little
olde me or you could do about it.

Topseyt123 · 06/04/2025 22:23

No. I'm worried about where things end up with an arse like Trump in the White House and I'm concerned about most of his attitudes.

He seems more like a big bully though. He changes on a sixpence and if tackled directly he often flounders, comes out with some waffle and can change again. He's nothing if not unpredictable.

Agree.

I don't believe for a second that there is a pub in the whole of UK where that is all people talk about FFS

SpringIsSpringing25 · 06/04/2025 22:24

No, I'm not worrying about it, unfortunately I have other things to worry about that are actually happening in my life and I have some control over.

I shouldn't be bothering with any kind of prepping, if anything happens, I'll be running right into the front line, well hobbling in that general direction. It would be nuclear and I don't want to be around after that!!

Galaxybisc · 06/04/2025 22:35

The question on my mind is why the media are constantly trying to scare people?! I saw that DM article too….one of a seriously scary looking Putin and the warnings about getting survival kits in place. I mean WTAF. Journalism is dead in this country.

zzplea · 06/04/2025 22:58

No one in my circles is talking about conscription or war, nuclear or otherwise.

They're talking about Trump's tariffs, whether Adolescence is worth watching, and how lovely the weather is at the moment.

TheRoundTable1983 · 06/04/2025 23:03

Not in the slightest.

BatchCookBabe · 06/04/2025 23:04

No.

Yorkshirelass04 · 06/04/2025 23:06

There is a lot of rubbish on social media about Starmer starting conscription and sending our boys to Ukraine.
I don't know who starts this stuff but it gets under people's skin.

3678194b · 06/04/2025 23:18

People love to scaremongering! Maybe they actually enjoy doing this as well. I certainly don't think we're at any more risk than we have been in the past 80 years.

Extremely? No.
However, I do feel that Trump has made the world more dangerous in many ways.
I'm clinging to the idea that Americans are starting to wake up to the idea that something drastic may be necessary.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 07/04/2025 01:24

No, because what would worrying about it achieve?

If I am going to be nuked into oblivion, so be it - I can't stop that. But I don't want to spend my last weeks/months on earth bricking myself over it. Pointless!

AlwaysTryingVeryHard · 07/04/2025 01:27

I think it's very interesting for economists at the moment, but no I don't think WW3 is imminent.

I think that we spend enough time arguing on MN. Nobody needs an actual war.

Ethelflaedofmercia · 07/04/2025 01:41

I’m more concerned with the enemies already inside our borders

Olivealone · 07/04/2025 01:42

No. Worrying about this is like riding a rocking horse. It gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere.

NotTerfNorCis · 07/04/2025 18:31

I think Trump is taking a huge gamble without at all understanding what he's doing. But the likely outcome is a recession and a weakening of American power and influence, not war. Not yet.

YouFetidMoppet · 08/04/2025 08:32

I'd really like to see this government try conscription. I don't think many of us would be willing to defend our own country, let alone another, although happy for them to send any of the right wing Britain First types to war. I'm sure they'd put their money where their mouth is.

ArseofOrion · 08/04/2025 13:06

There won’t be a nuclear war. There will be plenty of other underhand tactics going on but blowing up the entire world accomplishes nothing!
