WTF is happening? It’s like some bizarre performance art piece.

He’s holding up signs and shouting and throwing out hats it’s just 🤯

I can’t work out if this poster doesn’t understand or is being actively obtuse.

So what went wrong?

Trump still claiming Ukraine started the war Angry

https://bsky.app/profile/bestforbritain.bsky.social/post/3lmrxdbhpjk2r

Asked to explain why he called a Russian attack on civilians "a mistake", Trump repeats his claim that Ukraine started the war.

"When you start a war, you got to know that you can win. You don't start a war against somebody that's 20x your size and then hope that people give you some missiles."

(a reminder Russia 0% tariffs, Ukraine 10% tariffs)
(Trump would end the war in 24 hours)

I suppose this had EVERYTHING to do with the thread?

So you start derailing many threads?

And, yes, that was perfectly germain to the thread.

Seriously, what's wrong with you?

They’re now replying to messages from days ago just to derail. It’s quite tiresome.

It’s not bitching about tariffs, it’s bitching about the car crash that is Donald Trump’s administration and his faux concern for real people. He‘s an absolute charlatan who is preying on people’s lack of understanding about trade and economics, as evidenced on this thread by some…

So this thread has nothing to do with the boards Trump was holding up?

lawpluslaw was the first poster to turn the subject from the thread about tariffs imposed by Trump and the much higher tariff he imposed on China. From my chance remark about China's human rights record might not be to everyone's taste. I mentioned nothing about the EU and the court of human rights.

If you can see something else in my post, then that is up to you entirely.

It would, and I think they have.
Going further, I think the EU and Britain would do well to listen to China's offer of discussions.
Their human rights might be questionable by a lot of people (though how else can you control such a large population) but they certainly know their way round manufacturing and enabling people to have the opportunity for goods they otherwise wouldn't afford.
However, we must guard against being flooded with cheap goods no one wants. Having said that, I don't think China would flood the market, because they can change their factories to produce anything else, so the cost of changing products is not so great as it is in the west.

Lawlplusone posted their "sort of joking" post about leaving the ECtHR, and you then sincerely agreed with it, saying (asking if "this government be brave enough to get us out").

Honestly, I think this poster is either trolling or has special needs.

Either way, I think we should all move on.

This thread has evolved.

It is tariffs +

Threads change. They narrow or they widen. This one started out being on Trump's tariffs and the bizarre way he presented them to the world. Then it widened - this sort of thing happens when you have actual human beings involved in a forum. I think you need to relax a bit and go with the flow, that way your life and your Mumsnet experience will be more fun.

Also fact check before you post, that would be great.

llizzie · 14/04/2025 17:47

lawpluslaw · 05/04/2025 00:12

Yeah, I understand what tariffs are. I'm not an idiot. And I understand their use as a carefully targeted strategic tool in some situations. That isn't remotely close to what we have in this instance.

Can you find me a reputable economist, or two, not in the Trump administration, who can make a case for these tariffs, calculated and applied in the way they have done it?

You might enjoy this video, from February. It's largely focused on the US economy. Spoiler: he doesn't think they're going to be beneficial.

So if you understand what tariffs are. why turn the thread to something else?

I understand you're embarrassed by the reaction to your revolting stance on human rights. You seem, however, to have the intellectual capabilities of a toddler.

If you would like to discuss my posts on tariffs with me, maybe read all of them and try to form a coherent discussion (if you're capable). The last I heard you believe the conversation to be confined to the boards he held up.

You do realise you are actually using techniques used by abusers, with your gaslighting (and, yes, I'm using the term correctly)?

I won't be replying to you again.

Please read the thread title. It is NOT Trump's Tariffs. It is the damage Trump is doing and the conversation can veer wherever it wants to, without you posting countless posts telling people to only post about tarifffs.

I am working up to a nice cake picture!

It was but now it has evolved and moved on as Trump has done some even more ridiculous and dangerous things.

Yes, it has gone from laughing at penguins getting tariffed to being horrified by Trump saying US citizens could be sent to El Salvador

I think she just trawls the thread to see who she can annoy.

I don’t think some posters are posting in good faith.

Now, having read through the thread, must be aimed at yourself.

So you’re a vaccine sceptic? Explains a lot.

Another one of your 'diversions'?

This report doesn’t say what you’re construing that it does. This report talks about levels of fluoride much higher than that found in drinking water. Exposure to too much of virtually anything will have a negative impact.
https://www.statnews.com/2024/09/05/fluoride-water-child-iq-study-national-toxicology-program/

I cannot see a connection with the tariffs. Is there one?

llizzie · 14/04/2025 18:21

Igotjelly · 09/04/2025 06:14

It’s interesting that posters who were previously so keen to rip apart any false information are suddenly so quiet when faced with actual disinformation.

Is that so?

@Igotjelly

I totally agree. I think we need to move on from this obvious derailment.

Back on the shitshow that is Trump. El Salvador is refusing to return Abrego Garcia to the US and the revolting Stephen Miller has said if he was returned to the US, they would immediately deport him back again to El Salvador

Apart from deporting naturalised US people to El Salvador, Trump is now saying he is talking to other countries too 😒😲

Yes, it's awful. I think they like to have numerous egregious travesties going on at once so each distracts from another. No one's talking about him cratering the economy or MTG's cash grab today, for instance.

Please read the thread title. I have suggested you do about three times now. It is about the Trump car crash. Which covers many different aspects of what's going on.

I know it's tempting, but don't feed it.

Igotjelly · 14/04/2025 18:29

I feel quite sick at the thought of what agreements must have been made with El Salvador’s leader.
