Ex-leader of Reform in Wales accused of taking bribes for pro-Russia messages

" The former leader of Reform UK in Wales appeared in court on Monday accused of accepting bribes in exchange for making statements in the European parliament that would benefit Russia.
Nathan Gill is facing eight counts of bribery and one of conspiracy to commit bribery. The court heard he allegedly received money from former Ukrainian politician Oleg Voloshyn to make statements about events in the country that were supportive of Russia’s narrative, according to the Press Association.
His comments in the European parliament and in articles written for news outlets were “supportive of a particular narrative” that would “benefit Russia regarding events in Ukraine”, the court heard. His media appearances included 112 Ukraine, a pro-Russian channel that was banned by Ukraine in 2021."

I don't understand why it's not on front pages of all accessible news outlets, esp given developments in US.

Anyway, they could plaster this all over the news, it wouldn't make a difference. Nigel Farage could fly to Moscow to be given a medal by Putin for services to Russia, then back home to his cheering Reform supporters. He wouldn't lose a single voter.

Absolutely this!! Reform and Maga are super indoctrinated, it’s cult like. For example when you look at the supposed “patriots”‘ in the “land of the free” happily aligning themselves with a totalitarian country that rules by fear and propaganda and terminates anyone who dissents. They are driven by hatred, their hate is stronger than their principles. This is fuelled by constant social media propaganda, whipping up hate and division. Whilst they seem like a joke, we mustn’t be complacent about Reform. They have billionaires backing them who control the press and social media and have armies of bots manipulating and spewing forth propaganda.

StandFirm · 27/02/2025 15:48

Yeah... Reform/MAGA same difference. They all think Putin and his chum Trump are the white man's last hope.

yellowspanner · 27/02/2025 20:12

I support Reform and I don't think Putin or Trump are our last hope.
Stop generalising

So you want rid of universal health care? The imposition of a flat-rate tax system? Have you actually read Reform's manifesto?

Farage has been saying for years that he admires Putin and he's very supportive of Trump.

I'm not saying that all Reform voters are far right but they're currently the party of the far right.

There's a lot of money being put into the far right agenda in Europe which is destabilising the West.

It's not the "far right" that's destabilising UK/EU. Over the last decade, how many bombings, stabbings etc were down to the "far right"? How many "far right" immigrants have come to UK/EU for a free ride? Now compare that to Islam. Case closed.

Party memberships:

  1. Labour - 390k
  2. Reform - 219k
  3. Conservatives - 132k
  4. LibDems - 90k

Reform have nearly as many members as the Conservatives and LibDems combined, and that's without 1 single TV channel supporting them. Whether you agree with them or not, and I certainly don't agree with everything they say, there's a lot of people who support them. The Conservatives have lost 40k members since 2022 - but that's eclipsed by Labour who've lost 40k members since the last election! Reform as less far right than Labour are far left, they just don't have MSM such as The Guardian and the BBC spewing propaganda out for them.

I'm assuming you're a Reform voter and therefore snigger behind your hand when it's accused of being far right.

You probably think supporting Putin is a sign of strength and banging on about Islam is only 'rational'.

I assume you don't read the news but if you look around at what's happening in the world; the rise of the far right in Europe and what's going on in the States, it may give you pause.

You can throw membership stats around, they mean nothing. Reform won a few seats in Parliament. They're not the political juggernaut you think they are.

It's all a bit desperate and sad to want a workshy spiv running the country but here we are.

lol, so again, how many people have been killed in Islamic attacks in the UK/EU in the last 10 years compared with the far right? The rise of the "far right" is a reaction to that. If gullible lefties hadn't opened the borders to everyone, there would be no "far right" right now. You seem to be concerned only with the symptoms and not the cause, if you looked at all the news and not just MSM, you'd know that.

As for politicians, I've worked with MPs, councillors and a mayor; and I wouldn't trust anyone from any party to walk my dog. If you think Reform politicians are worse than Labour, they're not, they are all as bad as each other.

DuncinToffee · 02/03/2025 18:55

I wouldn't have called the Conservatives government 'gullible lefties'

And looking at all news, which outlets do you think we are missing out on?

It's very tedious to listen to. Don't you have some kind of echo chamber where you can pound away at the keyboard about Muslims? What's wrong with the Daily Mail comments section?

No doubt you get the 'real news' beamed straight to your TV.

Didn't they get rid off that Lewis actor as well? I suppose they can't come across as too swivel eyed or they'll lose their license.

And Wootton.

There's a very amusing article about him here.

LastTrainsEast · 02/03/2025 19:42

Unfortunately many politicians are 1 small step from being outright criminals. It's what we have to work with and what the parties have to work with.

Remember the expenses scandals? I think the only one without reason to be ashamed was Jeremy Corbyn. Now I can't stand the guy, but on this one thing he was the most honest of them all.

There are no heroes to follow and be loyal to. You have to support an MP on a policy you both agree on and oppose him on the others. Then you pick the party which is closest to doing what you need and vote for them this time, but maybe not next time depending on how they turn out.

Party loyalty is for people who see everything as black and white and miss everything in between.

Can't see anything other than Grimes has stepped down and is being very gracious towards GBN.

I wonder if the sexual harassment allegations against him are about to get worse.🤔

I only read that he was sacked. His recent tweets were horrible so I thought maybe he had gone too far this time.

TooBigForMyBoots · 02/03/2025 21:36

Here's what he's saying. I agree he was definitely sacked.😆 Can't wait to find out why.

So you are now condemning Johnson for not being a Russian sympathiser? Explain how that is a bad thing?

If you support Ukraine, you should at least be capable of affording Johnson some credit for his stance on this issue.

No, I’m condemning Boris for being a liar and a traitor. Whose ambition led him to seek office and to take money and favours from Russian oligarchs. His stance on Ukraine was commendable but even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

No. On the far right. Nice try with your whataboutery, but nope. I am what you'd call the "far left", and we spend all our time reading books about economics and wringing our hands about biodiversity decline and insufficient social housing. Not taking backhanders from foreign dictators to destabilise our democracy 🙄

I’m a centrist branded far right that agrees with much of what you do.

Because where I apparently disagree with the far left are led by the fears I have that I never used to have in my day to day life. I no longer think we can harmoniously be the ‘melting pot’ of cultures we used to pride ourselves on as a nation given the over population and clashing of ideals. I now worry about safety a great deal. I hope I’m irrational but I read too much. I used to have so much hope and vigour for the UK. I’m tired of defending my thoughts that seem rational to me.

The far left? Communists? Where are you arguing with Communists and revolutionaries?

Are the Communists saying you're far right because you want an ethnostate?

You’re much cleverer than me, so my point may not be as elegant. But I think I understand yours. Far right and far left are lazy slurs.
