Ex-leader of Reform in Wales accused of taking bribes for pro-Russia messages

" The former leader of Reform UK in Wales appeared in court on Monday accused of accepting bribes in exchange for making statements in the European parliament that would benefit Russia.
Nathan Gill is facing eight counts of bribery and one of conspiracy to commit bribery. The court heard he allegedly received money from former Ukrainian politician Oleg Voloshyn to make statements about events in the country that were supportive of Russia’s narrative, according to the Press Association.
His comments in the European parliament and in articles written for news outlets were “supportive of a particular narrative” that would “benefit Russia regarding events in Ukraine”, the court heard. His media appearances included 112 Ukraine, a pro-Russian channel that was banned by Ukraine in 2021."

I don't understand why it's not on front pages of all accessible news outlets, esp given developments in US.

Good grief.

Why worry about enemies abroad when we have so many at home at the moment? Including half the public and their self absorption in conspiracy theories/Truth Social.

Bromptotoo · 24/02/2025 16:16

I guess we have to point out he's accused and unless/until found guilty he's still innocent.

Reform/Brexit party however had, for quite a long time, a problem where they seemed unable to filter out people who had no business trying to be in sensible politics. Though to be fair there was a period when the party seemed almost to have a USP of appealing to such people.

I think they're now striving to professionalise but I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more 'problem' people.

PandoraSox · 24/02/2025 16:18

Old fag breath is the only leader not to make a statement about the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine today.

Funny that, innit?

nearlylovemyusername · 24/02/2025 16:20

Yes, sure, only accused of. Like this would ever happen without evidences and he has a chance to be cleared.

And it's only like Reform has a few problem people, not the entire party is aligned with Putin, same as AfD.

Gosh! And the timing! You're right, it should be a much bigger story than it is.
This, on top of recent events are about to properly test Farage's political skills. They may find themselves on the wrong side of history here.

Maitri108 · 24/02/2025 16:48

Farage has been saying for years that he admires Putin and he's very supportive of Trump.

I'm not saying that all Reform voters are far right but they're currently the party of the far right.

There's a lot of money being put into the far right agenda in Europe which is destabilising the West.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 24/02/2025 16:52

Thank you for highlighting this story, OP.

I just checked the Sky news app and this story was the 10th item down from the top. Op is correct, but there is obviously an awful lot going on in the world today.

Circularmadness · 24/02/2025 19:21

Have you seen the Led By Donkeys film on Nigel Farage.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 25/02/2025 15:51

If you trust polls, Reform is at the top of the list.

Circularmadness · 25/02/2025 16:36

Given that they don’t turn up for much Why did Farage turn up in the EU parliament to do this? Reform members are traitors to the Uk.

Reform - we knew it, right?
TooBigForMyBoots · 25/02/2025 16:44

Farage is a long time Putin puppet as anyone who watches KGB News can attest. Before that he did numerous appearances on Russia Today.

I agree with @Circularmadness, he is a traitor. A modern day Lord Haw-Haw.🤬 This news does not surprise me in the slightest.

Long way to go to 2029. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how Reform do in Runcorn.

There has been over 50 Labour members/MPs arrested for child sexual assault/child rape on harddrive

No there hasn't. That is a complete and utter lie!)

In 2023 there were reports that three Tory cabinet ministers were among 56 MPs – including two shadow cabinet ministers – who had been reported to the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS), according to the Sunday Times.

Conflation alert.

Members (of the Labour Party) are one thing.

Labour MPs are a much smaller cohort.

Ok. Can you or @Horriblevirusagain link to a source to confirm that over 50 Labour Members/MPs have been arrested for "child sexual assault/child rape on harddrive"?

I probably quoted the wrong post.

No prospect that 50 MPs have been arrested.

OTOH members of the Labour party or, over many years even people elected to office like Councillors, might just stack up to 50.

This thread is about Reform members being under Russian influence. I see your fictional straw man argument technique though.

Realistically, what else have Reform supporters got to offer?

Kendodd · 25/02/2025 17:21

Everyone knows Farage/Reform are massive fans of Putin. Maybe that's why it's not bigger news, it's because it's not any sort of shock.

Kendodd · 25/02/2025 17:26

Doesn't matter how many undersea cables Russian submarines cut, or people they poison in Salisbury. Reform voters know the real danger to the UK is the EU wanting to ban agrochemicals that kill bees.
