In 2017 Trump signed an executive order banning people from six Muslim-majority countries from entering the USA. I would call that anti-Muslim.

I had forgotten about that one

Do you have proof they are AI generated?

Oh yes, the 'Muslim travel ban'.

Oh I thought they were just clipped in the middle of doing some other gesture. I certainly saw the video of the one of Kamala and in motion it was nothing like a nazi salute.

"@joyousGreyOrca
Trump is against immigrants.
Many of the immigrants going to the US are not illegal. It is not illegal to travel to a country and claim asylum. It is legal to do so."

So the President's wife is a legal immigrant, the VP wife is a legal Indian immigrant and the VP came from a very poor single parent family with his mother addicted to drugs.

And somehow they are racist and anti immigrant???

JoyousGreyOrca · 21/01/2025 19:31

@1dayatatime I explained this, but you selectively quoted me and left out that explanation

People who are married to immigrants can still be racist and anti-immigration. It just makes them hypocrites.

1dayatatime · 21/01/2025 19:39

@JoyousGreyOrca

Sorry that was genuinely unintentional.

But referring to your other point:

"Trump is fine with rich immigrants. He is against any others."

Why wouldn't any country prefer to have rich educated immigrants rather than poor uneducated immigrants?

Are they? Can I ask why?

StandFirm · 21/01/2025 19:43

Having a tough upbringing or facing xenophobia/having to jump through hoops to make it in a new country doesn't necessarily make someone more empathetic. On the contrary, it's not the nicest trait in humanity but it's quite often the case that people who struggled don't see the issue or want others to have it easier. I had a boss like that: self-made single mum. I had huge respect for what she'd achieved; she was a difficult boss though (to women) by any measure.
JD Vance and his wife may have diverse backgrounds socially and ethnically but that does not make it a prerequisite for a socially minded approach.
I've come across immigrants of Latino heritage who were adamant they didn't want some random new arrival to get in 5 minutes what they'd fought hard for to get over the last two or three decades. In fact, during the EU referendum, quite a few Commonwealth posters on here also argued that EU migrants should bloody well join the queue like they had...

Not really, lots of people are very animated when they speak, maybe gesturing at something.

Livelovebehappy · 21/01/2025 19:52

If Trump, and presumably the millions who voted him in, believe that immigration is wrecking their economy and disadvantaging them, then of course they have every right to stop or reverse it. It’s just looking after the interests of their own people. Maybe people are just fed up of the attempts to brainwash them into accepting that immigration is always good, and brings value, when quite often it doesn’t.

He was sending a message via a hand gesture from his heart, he would have made a similar gesture if he had touched his lips and blown a kiss.

In fact most toddlers I know must be nazis because they all make similar gestures when blowing kisses.

People need to take off their tin foil hats.

You just compared Musk to a toddler and that's your defense of him? That toddlers do this too? Lol

What a well constructed argument. Amazing.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 21/01/2025 20:05

Trump announced that illegal immigrants are eating people's pets. Do you think that's ok?

He uses division and hate.

I can't imagine how people are defending a rapist.

Whimsicalgrape · 21/01/2025 20:06

He refers to them as illegal aliens. Divisive language right there.

That argument is in the same vein as "I'm not homophobic, I know loads of gays..."

Have you met the likes of Suella Braverman?!

everythingthelighttouches · 21/01/2025 20:11

Have those people who are saying musk edited this actually looked to see what he posted online?

It is not edited out at all.

Today I learned the term "plausibly deniable". That's exactly what Musk has done. Slightly altered the salute (by clutching his chest first) and then followed the salute with comments about sharing his "love". Just enough of a difference to be able to deny it was a Nazi salute, knowing full well it was a Nazi salute. He's clever. And unhinged. And powerful. Fucking terrifying combination.

This is exactly the argument that will bring on the next world war, isn't it. The argument that some humans have a right to more just because of where they were born while the rest need to watch and starve from the other side of the border. The argument that you are more special, capable, more deserving of the rest because of your birthplace.
It's a global world. Everybody is watching everybody thanks to the internet. Some are protective and greedy and some (the majority) hungry for more.

Until we get to some sort of equality of resources everywhere in the world, people will not be safe, no matter how strict the borders are. Forcing people out increases hostility and threatens peace.
People buying into far right policies are simply shortsighted.

AzurePanda · 21/01/2025 20:27

@username2373 so you don’t believe on borders?

The body language was too aggressive - it wasn't love. Check out the bottom lip bite. It was a demonstration of his inner feelings of triumph and power.

It looked as though it wasn't the first time he'd done it either.

I gave him benefit of the doubt when he called that heroic diver a paedo

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he worked his arse off to get Donald Trump elected

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he paid someone to level up his computer game character so that he could lie and claim that he was one of the best players in the world. And then I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he did it again with a different game

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he said the UK was headed for civil war in the summer when there were riots

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he said that only Reform could save the UK

I have him the benefit of the doubt when he said that only the neo-Nazi connected AfD party could save Germany

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he tweeted 'Free Tommy Robinson'

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he tweeted Tommy Robinson's disinformation film and told people to watch it

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he said that Keir Starmer was complicit in the mass rape of children

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he said that Jess Phillips was a rape genocide apologist

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he threw Nigel Farage under the bus saying Reform needed a new leader because Farage disagreed with him about Tommy Robinson

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he decided to fund Tommy Robinson's legal case

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he threw 2, what looked very much like Nazi salutes at Trump's inauguration and then laughed it off on twitter.

Is that where we are up to? Still thinking that he's actually just misunderstood?

I couldn’t agree more.
