@ArtTheClown you need to catch up. Everything is now “Nazi” except actual anti semitism and threats to the Jewish state it seems.

ArtTheClown · 21/01/2025 18:36

I'm not sure if anyone has already posted this clip, but Musk doesn't sound like a man who hates Jewish people, which I'd have thought would be a key element to being a Nazi:

Nazi comes from Nationalism. You don't have to hate Jews to be a Nationalist. That's not the criteria.

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2025 18:51

I think hatred of Muslims here is possibly a more defining feature of a particular type of 'patriot' extremist these days. We certainly see Muslims scapegoated for all of society's ills in a similar way that Hitler did the Jews. When certain groups talk of mass deportations, one wonders whether they could be persuaded to edge towards more violent means. We did see the attempts to burn down the asylum seeker hotels.

I don't know what it's like in the US for that, Trump certainly seems to be getting people wound up about immigrants.

Lots of Teslas in my neck of the woods. Still a badge of honour.

Badge of honour for what?

stormy4319trevor · 21/01/2025 18:56

@ArtTheClown I think, as has been stated by much more articulate posters, today exists an updated kind of fascism 2, with new targets of hatred and new alliances between far-right actors and states.

@RedToothBrush

"The biggest argument against whether humans can form a colony on Mars is biological"

I would say the biggest argument against whether humans can colonise Mars is a lack of magnetic field to stop any atmosphere disappearing into space.

All this does not matter, Americans have lost there democracy as of yesterday...I'll be surprised if Americans get a vote next time round to be honest....this is now a regime

But Hitler didn’t start with that. He didn’t start with talking about or promising the final solution. He manipulated his way into power manipulated the people via propaganda which is why we need to be wise to it happening again. And I think one of the richest men in the world, a man affiliated with the far right, a man who owns one of the largest social media platforms, buying his way into world politics and then shamelessly performing a Nazi salute with the eyes of the world on him is surely a cause for concern.

The amount of users on her defending a Nazi salute is terrifying.

You might be surprised by this, but yes Hitler did talk about the Jewish question right from the start. Have a look at his policies right from the start and how he actually got into power, the complexities of the 1930s, why people voted for him. It was not at all as you think. Have a good look, read some good books by some experts and then come back and chat.

No one is defending a salute because there wasn't a salute.

Trump has explained that he is against illegal immigrants - because if you allow people in illegally you create a potentially dangerous and unmanageable situation for all. Do you think illegal immigration is a good idea?

I don't think Trump is anti Muslim. Who do you think is anti Muslim exactly?

JoyousGreyOrca · 21/01/2025 19:12

Trump is against immigrants.
Many of the immigrants going to the US are not illegal. It is not illegal to travel to a country and claim asylum. It is legal to do so.

Please don't fret about this, democracy is not at risk at all. Trump was voted in and in four years there will be another opportunity for your party to win. And in the meantime you can keep talking about the policies which concern you - eg if you are worried about a particular policy you can start threads about that - as long as you keep to what you want to happen and you don't make personal allegations then you should be able to raise awareness for your cause in a positive way and that is a good thing.

No, you are incorrect. Of course Trump isn't against immigrants - people moving around the world creates a fantastic dynamic. His wife is an immigrant. I am an immigrant. People voted for Trump because illegal immigration had got out of hand - this is what they said - I think we must listen to the voters.

But you don't think a billionaire having political influence to push their own agenda is a bad thing? You don't think it influences people to vote against their own interests? This is democracy at risk.

Top AI response there.
Sadly, Mumsnet is going the same way as the Daily Fail’s comment section.

I think you only have to look at Russia to see what happens to a democracy when a group of billionaires decide they need a useful leader. Very bad outcome.

I don't think Trump is anti Muslim. Who do you think is anti Muslim exactly?

The sort of people who went out rioting because they had read on social media that the Southport attacker was called 'Ali Al-Shakati' and the sort of people who claimed that Axel Rudakubana was hiding his face in court because he was hiding a big beard that would prove that he was a Muslim (the recently released mugshot shows no beard at all).

It seemed to be quite important to them that he was not only an asylum seeker (which he isn't), but a Muslim. Why do you think that was?

JoyousGreyOrca · 21/01/2025 19:19

Trump is fine with rich immigrants. He is against any others.
Today the US closed the portal for people to apply to legally immigrate to the US.

And it is not unusual for people who have immigrated to a country to then become anti immigrants. It is a form of pulling up the draw bridge behind them.

Catsandcheese · 21/01/2025 19:19

The illegals Trump is going to send back have often been born in the US, they are undocumented but have lived their entire lives there and paid tax.
Additionally Trump noted during his speech that he won Pennsylvania because Musk 'knows the computers'. A hint that there was something amiss there in this election.
As many have already said they don't need to be anti semitic to be far right.
Musk is far right, as he supports the AfD in Germany, his family moved from Canada to South Africa and appeared to be supporters of apartheid.
There is nothing normal about this situation in the US, and there is footage online of far right groups using a fist to strike their chest and then put their arm up just the way Musk did twice.

In 2017 Trump signed an executive order banning people from six Muslim-majority countries from entering the USA. I would call that anti-Muslim.
