@AwardGiselePelicotTheNobelPeacePrize

"Forgive me if I believe them (being actual experts) over you."

OK then - it seems that we are in a surreal world that you believe the Nazis put their hands on their hearts first then gave a "salute " and then said "my heart goes out to you ".

So this whole saying "Heil Hitler" thing never happened and they were actually saying "my heart goes out to you ".

I agree and it's an insult to those of us with Jewish family that survived the holocaust. Nazi is thrown about everywhere, it makes a mockery of what was one of the most horrendous times in history.

If you really have Jewish family, you should be ashamed of yourself. Deeply ashamed.

BettyBardMacDonald · 21/01/2025 13:41

The hand on heart before launching the salute actually IS Hitler's preferred version.

AzurePanda · 21/01/2025 13:41

@SassK not to mention that this “Nazi bullshit” played a not insignificant part in getting Trump re elected. People have had enough of the Nazi label bring thrown around indiscriminately.

SassK · 21/01/2025 13:42

anotherside · 21/01/2025 13:39

I’m not calling him a Nazi, I’m saying he made a salute popularised by the Nazis - a Nazi salute. The rest of your post is just straw man nonsense and ad hominem attack about progressives which I’ll ignore.

Edited

You do that. Just stick your fingers in your ears and ignore 🙂

Some people might think my DH is an odd, awkward guy (AuDHD) but he still knows that this salute is unacceptable and would have absolutely no desire to do it.

It's so insulting when people use neurodiversity to excuse something grotesque.

I think it's relevant. It is not saying that being Autistic means you are a Nazi or that you're incapable of understanding this is messed up.

It's saying, gaffes, very confusing behaviour at times may be seen in this particularly individual who has a history of odd communications.

Yes I know that's really patronising and offensive but I live it too and see some things a bit ' hmmm' at times.

I am going to learn more about his history, the drug use I'm hearing on here etc. That's all relevant to this and might alter my view entirely.

I'm weighing it all up.

Nesbi · 21/01/2025 13:42

I think to understand the culture we’re increasingly living in people need to learn more about the history of Gamergate, pizza gate, 4Chan and the whole approach to trolling and culture wars which has been playing out over the last few years, and which Musk seems to be absolutely steeped in (as his “pedo” comments about the British cave diving expert demonstrated).

Acknowledging that Musk deliberately threw that salute in those circumstances (fully knowing knowing what it would look like) doesn’t mean you have to believe that he is a dyed-in-the-wool Nazi who is finally revealing his true colours.

More likely I think is that he saw it as something more like a dangerous prank, an adrenaline rush, something he could deny but which would be recognised and supported by the audience he now wants to be part of. He knew it would generate a strong reaction, and he knew that it would trigger another round of culture war arguing. He’ll also know that he is currently very well protected by Trump, he is the richest man in the world, and in his own mind he is essentially untouchable.

I think he did it so that when he got off the stage he would get a load of locker room style slaps on the back from his new friends saying “Man, I can’t believe you did that up there, that was SO COOL BRO, the Libtards are going to go MENTAL” and he gets to be the cool rebel and get the bad boy approval he desperately and quite pathetically craves.

Then he can sit back and chuckle at all the comments that are generated, and feel that he is at the centre of the global conversation. Once the fuss dies down he will do something like it again.

These are the times we live in - an Oligarchy in control of the US, a world at the mercy of billionaire trolls, no accountability, no morality, just chaos and profit.

This is me just using my finger how I want! That is me throwing up my finger to you Mumsnetters, it shows my hand goes out to all of you. It's not " the finger".

SassK · 21/01/2025 13:38

I'm not 'telling' anybody anything. I'll leave the 'thought' demands to the progressives...

Musk has clarified that what he made were giddy and enthusiastic gestures. He was filled to the rim (as in brim) with joy amongst his fellow Trumpists. What differentiates you and I is that I'm content to say yes, that explanation is perfectly plausible. You on the other hand will (typically) give no benefit of the doubt, and will continue to spit 'Nazi' at him.

Honestly, this 'nazi' bullshit is just the desperate dying wails of a political clan who're being increasingly rejected by normal people. People voted for Trump because they're sick of the cancel culture devotees. By all means go down swinging, but be in no doubt that history is leaving you behind 🙂

So let me get that right.
This man is supposed to be one if the brightest (allegedly), one man who is the richest in the world, who likes to tells us he knows better than anyone else because he is so rational, this man who embrace the ‘right to be manly’ etc…
This man was so taken by his emotions that he was giddy and couldn’t control himself?!?

I thought only women were the emotional creatures …. (According to him)

"Do you really think that a Nazi salute has to be done in a certain way, with the right words, to a Nazi salute?!?"

Well yes otherwise the following could also be seen as Nazi salutes:

Forgive me if I believe them (being actual experts) over you.

Which experts said it and what are there credentials? You are saying that bonafide academics contributed on social media in relation to this? Or are they workers in "think tanks" which are funded by one side or the other? (Genuine question - i haven't seen their comments)

I’d agree there.

Ok but you all seem so aggressive no one is allowed to speak as they are 'thick' an 'idiot' You are comimg across as an 'Intellectual Fascist' and trying to mask it as if you are the Intellectual Elite.

TBH Mumsnet is a waste of time at the moment, it is almost impossible to discuss anything without a personal insult.

Edited

Sorry if I seem slightly aggressive when I read people defending an actual Nazi salute with excuses of autism made him do it, he may have a frozen shoulder, or its just another sign that just happens to look exactly like a Nazi salute.

I have never once said anyone is thick. I do not think this is a matter of intelligence or lack of it. I simply think those who support the very far right policies Trump and Musk expound do not give a shit that Musk did a Nazi salute.

Tittat50 · 21/01/2025 13:45

@Nesbi that's a quite compelling explanations and I could ponder that and think it could be true. Based on the Diver tweets which were so bizarre and inappropriate, your explanation could be valid.

usernother · 21/01/2025 13:46

I was watching it live and it didn't cross my mind for one minute that he was doing nazi salutes. Depends on what you're looking out for obviously.

anotherside · 21/01/2025 13:47

SassK · 21/01/2025 13:42

Yes, I will ignore strawman gibberish posing as an argument. Meanwhile you can ignore a high profile right wing figure throwing two Nazi salutes. And now we can both go on with our days. 🙂

Quite. One can't do anything BUT question the sincerity of someone who'd haughtily liken the playground politics of today to the absolute atrocity of that time.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 21/01/2025 13:48

Honestly. Think about it. Do you HONESTLY think he would do a nazi salute with millions of people watching? Give over.

You will need to find this for us and link a video, I have googled and have not seen it.

Tittat50 · 21/01/2025 13:49

Is it possible in any way that he might have no comprehension that looked like a Nazi salute. Is it plausible in any way that was some stupid bro love gesture and he has no self awareness to realise how bad that came across.

That is my only question. That is what I am pondering. I don't know the guy and I don't know the answer to the above question. But I'm asking it and others are too. That's ok to do.

whereaw · 21/01/2025 13:50

@Nesbi that also makes sense as a plausible theory.
Though I really hope it's not the case and it is quite a reach.
