This thread is hysterical and unhinged. We don’t live in a fascist regime despite kiers best efforts. Try living in china, Iran, Russia. It’s sad and a bit ignorant that this is the key take away from the inauguration, whatever side you are on there was so much interesting stuff going on. I waved at my friend the other day in the park. If you had taken a still and out it on the local Facebook page then you could have whipped up a mob of pitch fork waving idiots to come after me.

The funny thing is I'd put money on you being one of those delusional people who tell yourself that you would have 'done something' on the right side in Germany in 1939.

Wonder how keen Keir starmer will be to pursue our special relationship with the US.

I hope everyone tells their children to only raise their left hand in school today.

I think the Trump cult call this the “play dense” defence.

Don't think they are playing.

The likes of Musk don’t dislike being called a Nazi sympathiser or fascist. They hate the fact that Nazi is used as an insult.

StandFirm · 21/01/2025 11:28

To those saying 'try Russia, try China'. I know both places, Russia especially. That is why I'm so keen on retaining our checks and balances, to make sure the billionaire oligarchs are kept in check, for POTUS to remain fully accountable to his people, and for the US to not go full rogue as that will make us over here suffer bigly!

theDudesmummy · 21/01/2025 11:30

FFS doing a Nazi salute is not "politicly incorrect".

He needs to get his head out of the sand, take his courage in both hands and go work with the EU in a very serious and urgent manner. The more he appeases Reform would-be voters, the worse it'll get. I don't want him to be a 'peace in our time' appeaser. He needs to take a stand for goodness sake.

Ivanka converted and she and her kids are jewish. He had families of the Israeli hostages up on stage today. I dont think Trump is a literal nazi. I do think Musk is incredibly weird and awkward but he's going to have to explain this one and explicity state that he wasn't intending a nazi salute.

Edited

Trump likes very wealthy Jews who support him. I doubt he would be so keen on the impoverished Jews fleeing to the US and the UK to escape the pogroms.

Plus, if this time fascism doesn't have the Jews as their first target, his supporters will soon turn their sights on them. Remember the Proud Boys with their chants of 'Jews will not replace us' and Trump described them as 'very fine people'.

SerendipityJane · 21/01/2025 11:33

I pity the poor sods who are stuck with a Tesla, but if anyone buys one from hereonin, I will judge them.

StandFirm · 21/01/2025 11:34

Musk is an ideologue and completely unhinged.
Trump thinks he can control him. Trump is all about himself and America first and America ONLY. Not quite the same. I too don't think he's a nazi (at least he wouldn't think he is) but Trump is very much in love with power and that's his weakness which could lead him down a dark path. Who knows who will ultimately 'win' him over ideologically speaking.

sherbertcandy · 21/01/2025 11:35

I think Trump is a puppet for all the tech billionaires that were on the front row at the event! He will just be a front being controlled and told what to do!

theDudesmummy · 21/01/2025 11:36

@AfraidToRun oh it would very much have a point. He is signalling to certain groups that he (and by extension Trump) has their back. And such is his current power/sense of invincibility that he doesn't have to hide it. He doesn't mind being identified with AfD or English fascists, so why should he?

Katy7889 · 21/01/2025 11:37

NO ONE DOES A NAZI SALUTE OUT OF AWKWARDNESS

Nellodee · 21/01/2025 11:38

Musk has the emotional maturity of a thirteen year old boy (on drugs). I've taught many teen lads who thought it was hilarious to do a Nazi salute and then pretend they were just putting their hands up to answer a question - usually on the anniversary of the release of Auschwitz, or other most inappropriate possible day for it. They all know what they're doing. So does Musk.

He got high and thought it would be hilarious, came down a bit, told someone to edit it out, and now he's just enjoying the attention. It was Trump's inauguration, but everyone's talking about him. What a win!

And just because he thinks it's hilarious to troll the world with this, doesn't mean he isn't also a bonafide nazi as well. He's in the troll/nazi overlap of the Venn.

What a fucking world we live in.

schnubbins · 21/01/2025 11:45

In Germany he would be in prison for three years for such a salute and rightly so .

user22446688 · 21/01/2025 11:50

I think there's a larger point within a larger point here. Elon and Trump are, at the very least, fascist-curious because it serves their narcissistic ends of more money and power and less accountability.

Whether he intended to do a Nazi salute or not, I don't know. But they're letting the debate and outrage rage on because it suits them and their agenda of muddying the waters enough that people can't see straight.

While attention was focused on this, they sat down and signed papers that were 100% carrying out the Project 2025 agenda which they were so busy disavowing during the election. They took the US out of the W.H.O. and the Paris Climate Accords. They pardoned or granted clemency to 1500 January 6 violent rioters (they were the only ones who were sentenced to jail). They disabled the app that allows people to apply for legal immigration. They fired or coerced staff to resign, putting a January 6 sympathiser in charge of the Washington DC Federal Prosecutors' office. And that's just to name a few.

People are very foolish indeed to ignore the real agenda. A bit of Fascism is just the cherry on top for them.

crumblingschools · 21/01/2025 11:53

Maybe Musk should go to Germany and repeat this gesture and see what happens

TriesNotToBeCynical · 21/01/2025 11:58

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 21/01/2025 11:04

Except that the first naturally lends itself to the second unfortunately.

Not with us intellectuals; or the significant Jewish contingent on the pro-Palestine marches either.

Rosieroe · 21/01/2025 12:03

what I saw was an overexcited man who made a gesture of grabbing his heart and tossing it to the crowd.

You can disagree but you're wrong.

Not commenting on whether it was or not but does he have a frozen shoulder as he had to move his whole body backwards to elevate his arm. Reminds me of when my husband would be asked pre surgery to lift his arm above his head and he’d do something similar and then get stuck (in the consultants rooms not live tv).

SerendipityJane · 21/01/2025 12:06

I think he has a brain frozen in1933.

They'll pay him well too so as far as he is concerned he's winning.

What an awful thing to say with absolutely nothing to back this up. Trump clearly said in his speech that he stands with black Americans?!

Do you go about your day looking to find/make division in our society?

Lol Trump does not support black people. Trump supports Trump.
