A nazi salute is a salute performed by a Nazi. The question is if he is a Nazi.
A salute in itself is not proof of being a Nazi. Otherwise kids playing a game doing salutes would all be Nazis.

So what is the proof that he is a Nazi?

Re read what you wrote.

The answer to your question is in there.

AzurePanda · 21/01/2025 10:51

@user243245346 100% I have lost count of the number of overt Nazi symbols I have seen on our streets since October 7. I’ve been as shocked by the lack of outrage over this.

And as for “Handmaidens”, well the closest thing any one will find to a Handmaid today is in Iran, Afghanistan etc.

whereaw · 21/01/2025 10:53

@Katy7889 that's not the clever response you think it is.

whereaw · 21/01/2025 10:53

I hope everyone tells their children to only raise their left hand in school today.

Elon musk is a supporter of Israel and the Jewish people. He did not do a Nazi salute. This is sheer silliness when we see weekly hate marches with actual antisemites doing Nazi salutes on our streets

He’s just replaced the scapegoat with another - Muslims.

bombastix · 21/01/2025 10:54

It has a grasp of actual logic

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/01/2025 10:54

"Social media users expressed shock at Musk’s gesture. Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a history professor at New York University, said: “Historian of fascism here. It was a Nazi salute and a very belligerent one too.”

Guardian this morning.

I wonder why the Musk supporters are not using this as a comparator rather than Obama and Harris

Thank you.

Not so much a ‘my heart goes out you’ sign of empathy or the sort of gesture anyone of us could mistakenly make when awkwardly bumbling around the house.

Oh, sure. Absolutely. Here's Elon showing what a great supporter of the Jewish people he is. 🙄

Elon musk salute
AzurePanda · 21/01/2025 11:00

@samarrange yup, it’s precisely because he is such a supporter of the Jewish people that he was dismayed that so many Jews so enthusiastically went along with the self hatred adopted by so many of the west, particularly on US campuses. He wasn’t alone in this view.

Have you done a Nazi salute, knowing it's a Nazi salute, but not meaning to do a Nazi salute?
It's not something easy to do accidentally/ absentmindedly.
Do it now. And then go out and do it in public. What's stopping you? Does it feel wrong or innocent to you and why?

Interesting! I bet the same posters on here would support Palestine in another thread and the rights for anti-Istreal protesters to be anti semetic.

Edited

Perhaps more likely that they would support Palestine, but not the right of anti-Israel protesters to be anti-semitic.

He then apologised and said it was the most stupid post he’d ever posted on X. Sooooo…

Except that the first naturally lends itself to the second unfortunately.

I think people have brought a lot of evidence that he did know what he was hinting at, and he has been flirting with this stuff in other contexts.

I don’t think Trump will want to acknowledge or deal with it. He doesn’t do downers. He’ll ignore it, I reckon.

Meanwhile, EM is given access to influence/harass every government agency through DOGE.

Finally, Zuckerburg, Bezos, Pichai and Cook were standing there front and centre. Wonder what they were thinking.

Tiggywiggypiggy · 21/01/2025 11:08

AfraidToRun · 20/01/2025 23:19

Hes a massive idiot but I don't think he knew what he did. I think he meant to throw his heart into the crowd but totally misjudged it. Don't get me wrong, he's a terrible human being but doing in on purpose would have no point, so I find is less plausible.

I tell you what, film yourself doing it, put in on social media and tell anyone who criticises you that you were throwing your heart out to your followers.

They're collaborators, that's what they are.

whereaw · 21/01/2025 11:11

@username2373 no but that doesn't prove anything unless you're saying that Elon walks around the streets doing Nazi salutes?

It could quite easily be that he was caught up in a moment, high adrenaline and nervous energy, which as a socially awkward man with Asperger's might cause a socially awkward and politically incorrect movement.

I cannot say with 100% certainty he didn't intend to do a Nazi salute. But no one can say with 100% certainty he did.

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/01/2025 11:11

To those excusing Musk's Nazi salute, what are you trying to acheive here? We have eyes. We have knowledge. We have memories. We are not stupid.

Are you trying to convince yourselves that this was an innocent gesture?

StandFirm · 21/01/2025 11:12

And the facial expression to go with the salute was a familiar one too. Don't tell me that was not carefully studied. Come on. Hiding in plain sight.

noblegiraffe · 21/01/2025 11:17

Can those of you defending the not-a-Nazi salute come up with a similar not-a-Nazi explanation for his ardent support of the neo-Nazi adjacent AfD party in Germany who have also been criticised for Nazi salutes?

Willyoujustbequiet · 21/01/2025 11:17

amber763 · 20/01/2025 23:27

Don't be ridiculous. He has Asperger's and was waving his hands in excitement. Stop making things up.

Don't be so ridiculous.

Full on Nazi salute. Twice to make sure we got the message.

Yes, this.
This will get you 3 years in prison in Germany.
There is a reason for that.

StandFirm · 21/01/2025 11:20

Yeah - offensive to people with Asperger's. They're not morons with a weird form of Tourette's. Musk's too smart for that.

The more it goes, the more I'm reminded of Dr Strangelove... and to think it's only Day 2...

Oh yes - Dr Strangelove! That hadn't occurred to me, but how apt!
