I was listening to Andrew Marr on LBC yesterday and although I didn't catch the name of the contributor he was interviewing, she was clearly a part of the MAGA world. She was enthusiastically talking about the 'New Europe' (that sounds iffy, anything 'new' 'renewal' etc sounds very cultish to me) and how MEGA is rising (Make Europe Great Again). A friend of mine was joking that we should start exclusively sharing our thoughts via letters and no longer digitally. I thought she was exaggerating but that day will come sooner rather than later...

I think the DOGE thing is more important. That could have huge, unintended consequences. Yes, we all hate government inefficiency and waste. But the “move fast and break things” approach to government agencies could have catastrophic effects beyond the US. That’s the thing we really need to watch. It will be complicated, under-reported snd hard to gauge until it’s too late.

I think it does have to do with the usual mix of discontent, fear and uncertainty that 'only' a strong leader can address. There's something very primal to all this.

I do think the West is going to become more right wing. You can already see immigration causing a lot of problems and laws are starting to change to reflect this. Trump getting in is just the start of it I’m afraid.
