Has he really done a nazi salute in the trump inauguration celebration? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well I've played Wolfenstein, so what.

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/01/2025 10:12

Fucking hell, I never thought I'd see the day Mnetters would be excusing Nazi salutes.😱

I can’t decide if he is awkward or malevolent.

I think the DOGE thing is more important. That could have huge, unintended consequences. Yes, we all hate government inefficiency and waste. But the “move fast and break things” approach to government agencies could have catastrophic effects beyond the US. That’s the thing we really need to watch. It will be complicated, under-reported snd hard to gauge until it’s too late.

He is both awkward and a Nazi sympathiser.

I'll sound very naive but isn't there a law against that? If ordinary Joe had done it what would be the consequences?

In Germany, you'd get in trouble. In the US, fuck all. You can be openly Nazi and fly the flag in your backyard nothing will happen. Only if you agitate for terrorism I suppose, otherwise, it's freedom of expression no matter what

In the US, nothing.

Here, possibly inciting racial hatred. Which is why you get brave words, not brave pictures of posters

Only one of two things can be true, imo:

  1. He did it deliberately
  2. He did it accidentally without realising the context in which it would be seen and is, therefore, a fucking moron.

1 seems far more likely than 2, to me.

And on the back of that:

  1. he wouldn't apologise, would double down and gaslight everyone;
  2. he would immediately apologise for upsetting and offending the majority of the world and do a hand wringing speech to that effect

Given the fact he's not apologised, has double downed and tried to gaslight people, I'd go for 1 as well!

@LizzieSiddal

"If you can post the video showing them doing a Nazi salute, rather than a picture of them waving, we may think you have a point."

If you look at the guest list and how many far right opposition parties were in attendance I am convinced it was a message to the MEGA crowd.

Hard agree.

Plenty of regular people wouldn't want to be plastered all over social media for anything. So someone not putting a photo of themselves up doing it means nothing. I mean we can plaster other people all over social media doing it who wouldn't mind their photos being out there since they are already in the public eye, and see what people say...

There’s a big big difference between still images and video footage i dont know if you're new to the internet or something.

AzurePanda · 21/01/2025 10:17

I haven’t read the full thread so hoping someone has covered this but he is saying “my heart goes out to you” putting his hand on his heart and flinging out his arm. It is quite transparently not a Nazi salute.

Well it's all about a White Europe - that's what it means. That's "great"

It's illegal in Germany, Austria and other parts of Europe. Not in the USA or UK.

I often visit a local antiques fair where one of the regular stallholders has his table draped with a swastika flag and various bits and bobs of Nazi 'memorabilia' (plus other WW2 stuff). It makes me feel sick every time I walk past but apparently he's perfectly within his rights to display it all.

StandFirm · 21/01/2025 10:20

Look, we'll miss our rights when they're gone; those who want to be blind, stay blind. We'll miss our culture when it's gone (no, immigration has not killed it and fascism is not the answer to countering foreign influence of whatever kind). We'll miss books when they're gone - and gone they will be (just check out some enlightening cases of liberal colleges in the US being brought 'to heel').

In over 400 posts you don't think anyone would have covered this piss poor deflection 'interpretation'?

Ok, cheers for your input.

Edited: over 500!

It is terrifying. Fascism escalated when countries were in economic decline and and here are everyday people minimising a nazi salute by a man who wields a lot of power in the US government and throughout the world.

It's the sort of random arm movement that could happen to anyone

I need to point out that I posted this with this comment and it didn't work! (picture of Hitler saluting in case it doesn't work again)

bombastix · 21/01/2025 10:23

I hope everyone posting in favour of this gesture is whiter than white with all their family so, with no disabilities and plenty of money. Because that's the template that's coming

Totally agree. Some people want to be offended so bad 🤦‍♀️

samarrange · 21/01/2025 10:26

This quote perfectly sums up what it's like dealing with the "Oh, poor Elon, he's so misunderstood" crowd.

Elon musk salute
AzurePanda · 21/01/2025 10:27

@fromthevault piss poor explanation? Perhaps you could explain why someone would say “my heart goes out to you”, put their hand on their heart and then immediately do a Nazi salute? Seems kind of odd to say the least.

Hope you have the have the same outrage for the actual Nazi sentiments we’ve been seeing openly on our streets for the past 15 months.

Well I learned from them today that the socially awkward are prone to Nazi salutes.

ThDanielDay · 21/01/2025 09:18

They're all just fucking desperate to be allowed to say the N word again and are working their way up to it incrementally.

What an awful thing to say with absolutely nothing to back this up. Trump clearly said in his speech that he stands with black Americans?!

Do you go about your day looking to find/make division in our society?

Which is a bit like saying that anyone who voted for Labour, voted for gulags, secret police and show trials and which would equally be over the top hysterical bollocks.
