What a long-drawn out process.

Down to Cleverly, Jenrick and Badenoch - not much of a choice really!

None of the above. Dreadful options.

offyoujollywelltrot · 08/10/2024 17:10

They're all scum.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 08/10/2024 17:50

Wow, Dumb, Dumber and Down Right Fucking Evil. What a choice.

Westfacing · 08/10/2024 18:21

They're not the loveliest bunch but we can rely on the members to choose the worse one!

Wow, Dumb, Dumber and Down Right Fucking Evil. What a choice.

You must have forgotten the painting over of the Disney murals in the wall of the asylum centre for unaccompanied children so more evil than dumb but still not as evil as her.

Frosty1000 · 08/10/2024 19:52

Ugh I think Cleverly and Jenerick final two then unfortunately Jenerick will win as members are towards right.

Definitely not a conservative voter and if I was I wouldn't be with any of the final three in charge.

LlynTegid · 08/10/2024 21:22

James Cleverly is the best of a bad bunch. Remember there is a small possibility of whoever is chosen becoming Prime Minister.

famofthree · 08/10/2024 21:46

I remember when Cleverly used to spout all sorts of right wing dog whistle nonsense, (when he was in Boris's cabinet), and then all of a sudden he changed and started presenting himself as "reasonable" / centrist / nice guy. This change in personality coincided sign Rishi Sunak's leadership looking weak and conversations about a successor.

Of course Badenoch and Jenrick are openly awful.

TizerorFizz · 09/10/2024 09:39

Jenrick has shifted right. Badenoch is a right wing loony so Cleverly is slightly more moderate but not the brightest! None can unite the party and this will lead to more calls for Boris. It might be interesting though.

I'd say very very small - they'll probably have yet another leader between now and 2029!

MissyB1 · 09/10/2024 09:47

If these three are the best they've got they can look forward to being in opposition for a very very long time. Dreadful bunch!

BIossomtoes · 09/10/2024 11:52

I feel sorry for the Tory members having to choose one of the final two - like having to choose sickness or diahorrea.

TizerorFizz · 09/10/2024 15:00

I bet half the members would go for Boris if he was there. Although they have lost around 1/4 of members in 2 years.

TizerorFizz · 09/10/2024 15:37

Cleverly is out. The Right have it.

VWAirbag · 09/10/2024 15:38

Good news for Labour.

Just when you think it can't possibly get any worse.

Good news for Labour.

Agreed.

It's a choice between mad and madder.

Pippa Crerar says she's spoken to Tory MPs who voted for their preferred second candidate on the assumption Cleverly was safe 🙄
If true, it's monumentally stupid especially considering how few MPs they have and therefore how close it was going to be.

What a sad sorry bunch to choose from. But I did think Cleverly would get it. He seemed the best of the poor options.

These two really are a rather poor show who don't inspire me whatsoever.

Hands up I'm a Tory supporter, though it's been hard to be so these past few years as they've spent their time fighting each other and falling apart. Now look where it's got them? The marginally decent ones lost their seats, others resigned and now this.

God it's depressing.

MaJoady · 09/10/2024 15:53

In an ideal world, the UK would be better having a strong, centrist opposition.

But, for Labour, this is the best outcome from a party politics pov. It seems like the Tory's are still more obsessed with Reform than learning from their mistakes and building a credible opposition. Neither potential candidate seems to be the sort to appeal to a wide ranging electorate.

Plus, it's not like either will actually still be leader in 5 years time 😂

shellyleppard · 09/10/2024 15:55

Wasn't cleverley the one who made the joke about the date rape drug???? Horrible horrible little man. All as bad as each other

EasternStandard · 09/10/2024 15:59

Surprised re Cleverly

Only because he was leading the other day, maybe some strange bounce there

Five years is an age away. Depends how things pan out with various pressures

Westfacing · 09/10/2024 16:18

I assume there was some sort game-playing yesterday when Cleverly suddenly came out top, indicating he was favourite among the MPs. If he really was their genuine choice he wouldn't have dropped votes today.

Who knows, or cares, but it's interesting!

Yeh that was an odd bounce

Can’t know for sure of course but I doubt the membership would have voted for him anyway

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/10/2024 16:28

That's a shocker.
I can't wait for the Badenoch Jenrick debates.🙈
