HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 04/07/2024 23:27

I have not voted
Reform and live in a safe tory seat But I voted
Lib dem tactical vote

I said ages Ago on here the reform would do really well and was shouted down.

Same as brexit, no one will admit voting for reform but
They still do it in droves it seems.

I'm Willing to bet they
Might win an election in four years at this rate!!

Scary
Times

@LiterallyOnFire because I believe they are racists and their main argument is brown people arriving on boats hope that helps !

Ask them how they’ll do it, how they think other countries would respond to unilateral action and how our fishermen would cope with no access to other markets that they rely on. Just like Brexit, they’re painting a picture where we can do what we like and there will be no consequences.

Ask them how they would force supermarkets to pay a fair price. Ask them how this would impact the cost of basics for consumers.

I don't need to. They'd never get my vote.
A lot of people don't ask the 'how' though and perhaps don't envisage the repercussions. They just want a bite at the carrot that's dangling.

I think it shows a lot of anger at the main parties.

And it’s a serious issue for the future, which will most likely be ignored until it’s too late.

If Starmer doesn’t please the people who voted for him, they could easily vote Reform next time.

The hard right almost always rise due to the crapness of the main parties.

I agree with every word - look at what is happening in Europe with a surge in the far right. Despite all the euphoria I feel an impending sense of dread for what’s to come in the UK and wider Europe to be honest.

AnOpinionInTheHand · 05/07/2024 00:30

I don’t think it will be just the north. I live in the south east and people are mightily pissed off with small boats landing almost daily - reform had absolutely tons of people volunteering to leaflet for them, run stands, go canvassing. The other parties couldn’t garner anywhere near the response reform has.

that’s what happens when you dismiss people as just thick racists - if you see the real impact of these policies in some quite deprived areas then you’ll vote for your only option.

@saythebellsofstclements not sure what they are thinking 🤔 could be they just got excited to use their new blue passport 🤔or maybe they think these jokers will let them take the muzzle off their xl bullies

Its people like you who will be to blame when the far right start to get massive numbers of votes! Sneering idiots with a superiority complex who clearly aren't as clever as they think they are!

Neurodiversitydoctor · 04/07/2024 23:39

It won't look like that in London, the South East or the University Cities. But yes in deprived ex-industrial communities this seems to be the trend. Watch out for Blackpool, the Medway Towns and Wales.

I always thought Labour were meant to represent the working class ordinary people of the deprived ex-industrial communities - places like Blackpool, the Medway towns and Wales - and not the professional middle and metroplitan classes of London, the South East and the University cities. Was I wrong?

I'm not surprised at all that Reform has won votes from Labour as well as from the Tories.

Labour abandoned the non-middle class, non-professional working classes many years ago. Labour now despises them.

NotJinxingAnything · 05/07/2024 00:31

Not sure this says anything about where Reform might be at the next election. A substantial amount of Reform votes will have been from people who reckoned they could put a protest vote in because it would make no difference to the result. If, and it's a big if, the Tories get their act together they'll get a substantial portion back, and they will also find the people who stayed at home in protest this time round come back to vote, especially when the polls predict a narrower result.

sabadoo · 05/07/2024 00:31

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 00:25

They're predicted 13 seats per the exit poll.

They will show themselves up in weeks.

Think how many times Farage has had to sack staff and candidates (across his various parties) because they say stuff that gives them away. It'll be that on a loop.

We just need to find a way to talk to the people who have voted for them.

It all depends on lots of things, it isn't about the number of seats Farage will have no power to do anything but will have a large public profile over the next five years to influence the debate and peoples minds . If Labour fail to deliver the results people want that makes people more vulnerable to Farage and Reform. We also need to be looking at what percentage of the vote they get, not just how many seats.

HeddaGarbled · 05/07/2024 00:31

We all know that a good chunk of the population are racist.

We would never have had a Brexit vote at all if it weren’t for them and the opportunist politicians who stirred them up (Farage and right wing Conservatives).

I think we should be proud of the fact that their results are so piss poor, unlike in France and the US and elsewhere. You’ll never eradicate racists but you can relegate them to a sideshow.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 00:31

cantgetmybreath · 05/07/2024 00:28

@LiterallyOnFire because I believe they are racists and their main argument is brown people arriving on boats hope that helps !

Well I'd make a big distinction between the party members and the people voting for them.

Don't drive more voters into their arms.

rumnraisins · 05/07/2024 00:31

Prawncow · 04/07/2024 23:30

I’m really grateful for our first past the post system. It should keep down the number of seats they win.

So you only like democracy when most people share your political views?

BirdIsland · 05/07/2024 00:31

Reform will do ok, but if Farage sees more of a personal opportunity with the Conservatives he'll ditch Reform quicker than you can blink. He knows Reform can't win an election, but the Tories can.

The Tories will need a new leader, and good old Nigel sees himself as just the person to guide them ever further to the right.

OperationGoldenDawn · 05/07/2024 00:31

HolyGround13 · 05/07/2024 00:23

Yes, it could be, however the reform policies are utter unfalsifiable nonsense for anyone with any logic or common sense. They can say anything is their policy, such as “zero nhs waiting lists”! Which sounds great and like completely made up bollocks

but again with the other parties too, if people are too busy watching football etc then its a wonder why we get the parties we do

Neurodiversitydoctor · 05/07/2024 00:31

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 00:17

Reform have pledged to massively support fishing and farming communities so that will be a big reason in the 2 results in so far

Thanks @saythebellsofstclements

Makes sense.

I saw Gt Yarmouth & Hartlepool also predicted for Reform. Like a sprinkling of turquoise right up the eastern coast.

If it's fishing that makws sense

You are a fool! Its nothing to do with the colour of the people arriving on the boats but the sheer amount of them! Go live in an area affected by this and then talk to people about it!

Wow another
10,000
For
Reform
In Scotland!

No Scottish seats have declared yet...

Trees6 · 05/07/2024 00:32

I’m not surprised that Reform are doing well and I understand why, but I’m surprised at 13 seats. That’s a somewhat stronger showing for them than I thought.

I’m Labour so I’m pleased with the landslide but it’s put a bit of a dampener on it.

MaidOfAle · 05/07/2024 00:32

Moonpie6 · 05/07/2024 00:19

My partner voted reform. I'm actually peeved off with him. Called him and idiot, said they're racist and no women's rights and he just replied he's not a woman so doesn't matter.

LTB. He doesn't care about your rights.

sabadoo · 05/07/2024 00:32

I'm off to bed now but I would not underestimate the risk of Reform and the far right at our peril look at our neighbours in Europe, this has been a long time coming so lets not be complacent in our efforts to head it off.

LiterallyOnFire · 05/07/2024 00:33

I hope you're wrong.

I have this image in my mind of Farage getting through political parties like Kleenex. He literally needs a new disposable party each time out. They seem to self destruct.

HashtagShitShop · 05/07/2024 00:33

Yes I must admit to being surprised by how high the numbers are, especially in the first three counts, for reform. I wonder how much is genuine reform vote and how much is protest voting.

Absolutely this.

Matthew Goodwin nailed it when he said our elites have rebelled against the masses, not the other way round.

I recommend ‘Despised’, a book by Paul Emberly (a leftie btw).

sabadoo · 05/07/2024 00:33

I cannot understand what you are saying here. I am saying Reform make shit up because they’ll never have to prove it, so they don’t bother costing their bullshit policies. Not sure where football or other parties come into this. Labour and tories have to cost and demonstrate how they would deliver their policies

I live in an area "affected" by this and I find them much better people than the gammons that spew hate on them
