Who is staying up to watch the results?

I must stress that I'm not massively into politics, and I have no political agenda to bash.

I do try at every GE to stay up to see how it plays out, especially when it's a big predicted change.

The plan is to get ready for bed by 10. Watch the exit poll stuff, stay up until we reach a point of naming the winner, drinking gin and wine and sewing my quilt. Sewing my hand drunk onto my quilt maybe.

Oh how age has made me such saddo. 27 years ago I was rolling home drunk as a fart watching the GE.

I might only last until midnight.

I have the keys for a local church that is used for voting. I was there at 6:00 to open up the building. I voted at about 15 seconds past 7.
I will return just before 9:00pm and once the ballot boxes have been collected I'll lock up, come home, pour out a large glass of wine and go to bed and hopefully stay awake until 4 or 5 tomorrow morning watching the results on TV.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 04/07/2024 17:22

I've booked leave tomorrow so that I can stay up if I want to. But I'm quite tired so may not manage it!

Zonder · 04/07/2024 17:22

Wouldn't miss it. I plan to watch the headlines at 10, maybe nap after the first couple declare and then again til about 4. I think that's when our constituency will declare plus some of the potential Portillo moments. Exciting.

pjani · 04/07/2024 17:23

I’ll definitely stay up till the exit poll (10pm! Wild!) and try and stay up for the first few seats. I have bought a couple of boozy drinks which is not like me either!

HoneyButterPopcorn · 04/07/2024 17:24

Nope. I can't drink now and I'm sure it will have me reaching for the whisky 🥃.

Threefeetmore · 04/07/2024 17:28

God no! I've cast my vote, but the preliminary and post mortems drive me bats. I shall go to bed at the usual time and find out what happened tomorrow morning 😂

ilovesooty · 04/07/2024 17:29

I'll watch the exit poll then have a nap and set the alarm for 3am.

TripBalzac · 04/07/2024 17:30

Are you hand quilting?

RosaRoja · 04/07/2024 17:34

I’m on holiday and a few hours ahead. I don’t know if I’ll have the stamina for this. It’s also not the same watching the results come in on the BBC news website as it is on TV.

devildeepbluesea · 04/07/2024 17:35

I’m in bed and just about to have a nana nap, to hopefully see me through to the small hours.

saythebellsofstclements · 04/07/2024 17:40

Nah.

What's the point. It's not that exciting no matter who wins. Just transient hope followed by building disappointment over the coming years.

My sleep is more important and improves my quality of life more than those thieving b'tards.

Emdubz70 · 04/07/2024 17:40

Me! Always do. I love election night. I don’t feel great but will get settled on the couch with my chocolate and crisps.

“Sewing my drunk hand onto my quilt” is so funny to me 😭😭😭

Theoldwrinkley · 04/07/2024 17:50

Usually do, with a bottle of port to consume overnight. But off to Hampton Court flower show early tomorrow, so I'll be in bed by 10.30.
Curses to Rishi for calling it on flower show day.

Comedycook · 04/07/2024 17:51

Definitely staying up...I love election night. I remember staying up all night for the brexit referendum results

RosaRoja · 04/07/2024 17:52

I hope there’ll be a thread on here.

caringcarer · 04/07/2024 17:54

I'm going out for a meal this evening so when I get home I'll stay up and watch the results until it looks like Labour have won. I'll probably go to bed around 3.30am. DH will stay up with me.

Booksandflowers · 04/07/2024 17:54

No. I need my sleep. Will be the first thing I look at on my phone in the morning though

NightPuffins · 04/07/2024 17:54

Me! It feels like a momentous night. I enjoy election results anyway but this one especially will be one I want to see unfold as it happens.

Sirzy · 04/07/2024 17:55

Ds (14) wants to but he has a hospital appointment at 8.30 tomorrow and I am in work straight after so we have agreed to watch the exit polls at 10 and then get some sleep!

he isn’t going to school post appointment so will make up for it with a day of sky news.

DonnaGiovanna · 04/07/2024 17:56

I love staying up on election night - the thrill when all the results tickers start flashing across the screen after the slow start - but I have to be out of my holiday cottage and on the road by 9.30 tomorrow morning so I probably shouldn't. Curses on Rishi from me too for calling it this week grr.

I agree. I'm also looking forward to quite a lot of Portillo moments, which will no doubt be very enjoyable.

VelvetBow · 04/07/2024 17:59

I'll stay up for the exit poll but I'm up with the baby around 4am so I should be able to catch the winner then.

Can you access the BBC News website if you aren't in the UK?

RosaRoja · 04/07/2024 18:05

@ilovesooty yes, I’ve just checked.
