Who is staying up to watch the results?

I must stress that I'm not massively into politics, and I have no political agenda to bash.

I do try at every GE to stay up to see how it plays out, especially when it's a big predicted change.

The plan is to get ready for bed by 10. Watch the exit poll stuff, stay up until we reach a point of naming the winner, drinking gin and wine and sewing my quilt. Sewing my hand drunk onto my quilt maybe.

Oh how age has made me such saddo. 27 years ago I was rolling home drunk as a fart watching the GE.

I might only last until midnight.

But not TV.

Allmarbleslost · 04/07/2024 18:09

I'm planning on sleeping after the exit polls and setting and alarm for 3am

Baneofmyexistence · 04/07/2024 18:33

Definitely watching the exit poll stuff. After that I’ll probably go to bed for a bit then wake up early to watch some more! DH is going to buy popcorn and we’ve got plenty of gin in 😂

GCAcademic · 04/07/2024 18:34

Is there a list somewhere of what time particular seats are predicted to declare?

Netcam · 04/07/2024 18:36

I must be getting old (54). I used to, these days I need my sleep. It will be a nice surprise in the morning (hopefully).

MonkeyPuddle · 04/07/2024 18:38

I am but mainly as I’m working a night shift. I usually wake sporadically in the night on election night and check the feeds.

dizzydizzydizzy · 04/07/2024 18:39

I'd like to .i'll never forget the look of shock and disbelief on Portillo's face at his local count in 1997 when he lost his seat.

ItsTapasTime · 04/07/2024 18:40

Well, I’m already on the wine ( and Bombay mix), so doubt I will stay up past the exit poll. The last time I stayed up was for the brexit vote. Couldn’t believe what was happening, so stayed up hoping for a miracle turnaround. Will probably tune into the bbc website a couple of times overnight.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 04/07/2024 18:40

I really want to, but will be so tired when the kids wake up tomorrow 😂

Oblomov24 · 04/07/2024 18:40

If you don't work, fine.
But my friend has had the most stressful week, late nights as a solicitor. And we are going to see the killers tomorrow. So when she mentioned this, I suggested bed! 🛏️

RishiSunak · 04/07/2024 18:42

Not me.
I've also got cotton wool stuffed in my ears.

1dayatatime · 04/07/2024 18:45

Spoiler alert:
Labour wins.
The Conservatives get between 80 to 100 seats
LibDems get between 40 and 60 seats
Reform get 1 to 3 seats

Taxes go up.

AmelieTaylor · 04/07/2024 18:46

That's my intention!

However, I haven't been sleeping the last few nights & im tired, so I expect a fair bit of napping on the sofa!!

but I love actually watching these things unfold

Me too

EdwinH · 04/07/2024 19:07

Definitely. Got my snacks sorted (sausage rolls, cheese, ham, homemade chocolate chip rolls) and drinks (Red Bull, prosecco, orange juice).

And I've printed off my election bingo cards:

RaininSummer · 04/07/2024 19:22

Definitely not worth a sleepless night as it won't change the results and I will find out soon enough anyway.

BlueSoul · 04/07/2024 19:31

I usually love staying up to watch but this time I think I'll go to bed.

DyslexicPoster · 04/07/2024 19:57

TripBalzac · 04/07/2024 17:30

Are you hand quilting?

No using my sewing machine. What could possibly go wrong after a few gins?! It's a massive quilt so I might get mad with it and go to bed sooner.

I would love to see my constituency vote come in as I have very famous mp. My son was going stand against him ( just for the experience he LOVES politics) but is abroad right now.

You could break a needle and never find all the bits! Good luck 😉

Shouldn't you be busy packing?

YellowDaffodilRedTulip · 04/07/2024 20:31

I’m doing the vote count so I will be up! Estimating a 4-5am finish for our district, unless it’s close and they demand a recount.

MermaidEyes · 04/07/2024 20:32

I'm not really a night owl, so will watch until 11ish then go to bed. I know twitter will have a mash up of all the best losers in the morning!
