Keir Starmer 'glittered' by protester

Is anyone watching the Labour Party Conference on TV?

If so, does anyone know who the protester was who threw glitter over Starmer as he was about to speak?

Starmer took off his jacket and shook it but he still has glitter on his palms and in his hair !

Was a weird, pointless bit of attention seeking from who ever did it. In the same vein as those tears who keep glueing themselves to things.

MariePaperRoses · 10/10/2023 14:41

Shame it wasn't something else! 💩

All protests are about seeking attention, that's kind of the point!

So what? It hardly detracted from what he had to say.

soddingspiderseason · 10/10/2023 15:41

And Starmer dealt with it brilliantly. Calm, collected and with a hint of amusement. Bloody great speech. He did have an air of Liberace about him throughout though.

SlipSlidinAway · 10/10/2023 15:47

Yes, I thought it was brilliant too.

AutumIsOrange · 10/10/2023 15:49

I thought he recovered very smoothly and went on to deliver a brilliant speech.

Yes, you could say he gave a glittering performance, that truly sparkled throughout.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 10/10/2023 16:10

Yes, good recovery. These incidents must be terrifying as a public figure - you never know whether it's a stupid stunt, or someone planning to kill you, Jo Cox-style. I feel sorry for them all when this happens, and I'm impressed when they keep their cool.

LauraNorda · 10/10/2023 16:12

If Kier had punched that prat, he would have been a shoo-in for Prime Minister.

Ratsoffasinkingsauage · 10/10/2023 16:12

Another dick move from XR. I want climate change to be dealt with but what they are doing is not helping anyone get on board with making that happen.

True 😀

Vikina · 10/10/2023 16:28

I can't find it funny. I'm proud that we live in a democracy but it's not a peaceful protest when an individual just doing their job can be attacked like this. What if it wasn't glitter?

Vikina · 10/10/2023 16:29

LauraNorda · 10/10/2023 16:12

This did make me smile because it's true!

DivingForLove · 10/10/2023 16:33

@MariePaperRoses disgraceful comment. You clearly don’t work in a profession where being physically attacked is a constant risk. Pathetic.

And you do work in such a profession?

What are you, a lion-tamer ?

Where's John Prescott when you need him?

Don't be ridiculous, you can't go round punching people when you're at work.

My first thought in this kind of situation is "where was his security?". Its unacceptable to allow a stranger to get that close because you never know who wants to do harm.

Roselilly36 · 10/10/2023 16:56

I am no fan, but honestly what a security failure, how on earth did he manage to get on the stage and appear behind him, what if he had a weapon?

PermanentTemporary · 10/10/2023 16:58

In this day and age I would have assumed it was an acid attack and would have screamed and dropped to the floor. If he was that calm, HUGE props.

Glitter is incredibly environmentally damaging isn't it?
