Farage as a Tory PM?

madamreign · 05/10/2023 16:26

Could it happen?

He's obviously been floating around the Tory conference.

I'm wondering if, when Labour wins the election, Starmer will end up facing Farage across the ballot box?

Don't believe it.

I don't think he'd be selected for a winnable seat; I don't think he'd be elected; I don't think he'd submit to the whip and he'd end up being thrown out. He's a loose cannon.

Based on his performance as an MEP, Starmer would wipe him up without any trouble.

However, I thought Truss and Braverman were both joking when they said they were going to stand for leader, and one of them became PM. So my sense of how stupid people really are is clearly off.

YokoOnosBigHat · 09/10/2023 07:32

I agree, I don't think he would submit to the whip or play by party rules, he's too used to doing what he wants (or forming a new party to do what he wants with if he's not allowed to do something).

That said it's been a fucking weird few years.

WaitingfortheTardis · 09/10/2023 07:36

Hasn't he done enough damage with his divisive and disturbing views. I'm all for free speech but this is a man who does not need to be heard.

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/10/2023 07:50

Does he even live here now?

TodayInahurry · 09/10/2023 07:50

Disagree, GB News is the only news channel we watch, he talks about real things happening, unlike the BBC. He has a huge audience, that is why the far left want to shut the channel down.

That didn't take long.

GBeebies has tiny viewing figures. Around 6% of the total viewing population. They are partisan as hell, losing advertisers hand over fist and are only still going because the owner has very deep pockets and an agenda. It isn’t even a news channel, it’s classed as an entertainment channel because if it classified itself as a news channel Ofcom would apply an impartiality test that it wouldn’t pass.

Thing about sources of news, if they don’t like the news, they tend to shoot the messenger.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/10/2023 09:03

GB news😂😂

Do people actually take it seriously?

You really should broaden your horizons. Can I suggest Al Jazeera News....the European and US &Canada need are good reads.

Not only dies GB news not have huge viewing figures, the average daily viewing length is 1 minute

The far left doesn't need to shut the channel down, it will do that by itself

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 09/10/2023 10:25

Well, if your only source of "news" is GB News, then it's hardly surprising that you're ill informed about the world or that you would support Farage etc. Thankfully, most of the population are a little more discerning.

I don't think Farage will ever be leader of the Tory party in its current form. However, I do think the Tory party might implode after the next election, and I guess it's feasible that he could be leader of one of smaller parties that emerge from the ashes. He will face tough competition from the likes of Truss, Braverman, Badenoch etc though.... all trying to out-right the right.

That is absolutely shocking!! Why would you watch a racist, unkind and nasty TV channel, horrific choice.

I am late to the party but bloody hell mate, are you well?! 😂

dubsie · 12/10/2023 19:09

GB news does not report news and Farage is a trouble causer who has caused immense political damage

Westfacing · 12/10/2023 19:16

He's stood SEVEN times for Parliament - unsuccessfully.

But, we live in strange times!

Abhannmor · 12/10/2023 20:00

One of my sisters watches GBH news. I saw a bit of it one day : Arlene Foster and Nigel Farage exchanging their crazed opinions. Two of the people who have rowed Britain up shit creek in a barbed wire canoe - and there they are complaining about the outcome!

It nay be the only news channel you watch but it doesn't mean it's 'news'. And before you ask, yes I have watched it.

dubsie · 14/10/2023 11:33

It's an opinion channel for nutters not a news channel

GCAcademic · 14/10/2023 11:43

Thankfully, most of the population are a little more discerning.

I’m wouldn’t be too sure about this. Nothing would surprise me now, as far as U.K. politics is concerned. The Tories have calibrated their policies and sound bites in accordance with the worldview of Farage and his supporters for nearly a decade now, becoming ever more populist. They thought a EU referendum would see him off, but here we are witnessing him being feted at the Tory party conference. He really is the turd that won’t flush.

ModeWeasel · 14/10/2023 11:45

No he wouldn’t pass the selection stages.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/10/2023 11:46

Might go and place a bet that he’ll be leader this time next year.

fearfuloffluff · 14/10/2023 12:19

He has no experience of actually doing anything constructive - he was crap as an MEP, failed seven or more times to be elected as MP, enough brexiteers have had the scales fall from their eyes.

He's skilled at voicing dissent and criticism, not so good at finding solutions.

Unfortunately such “qualities” are no hindrance to getting elected as an MP, as we have seen time and again. It’s a race to the bottom as far as the political class is concerned.

SnapdragonToadflax · 14/10/2023 12:51

I (thankfully) don't think he's electable, given he's tried and failed 7 times.

But the fact that this is even being discussed just shows you how far the Conservative party have fallen.

CurlewKate · 14/10/2023 13:33

Yep. Next Tory leader but one and then PM. Awful but true.
