Farage as a Tory PM?

madamreign · 05/10/2023 16:26

Could it happen?

He's obviously been floating around the Tory conference.

I'm wondering if, when Labour wins the election, Starmer will end up facing Farage across the ballot box?

Unlikely unless Labour loses in 5 years time....the far right may have infiltrated the conservatives but this isn't America...not yet. They are certainly trying to force in populism but that gave us Brexit and look at the consequences.... people want something sensible and stable

I (thankfully) don't think he's electable, given he's tried and failed 7 times.

But the fact that this is even being discussed just shows you how far the Conservative party have fallen.

Yes they are currently in a mess. I mean they gave the looniest element of their party the leadership in effect. Much like Labour with Corbyn. Neither party can win with the extreme of their party in charge.

I do expect Labour to be a one-term government and for the Tories to give us an utter loon the next time around (more so than usual).

tobee · 15/10/2023 13:55

Plenty of Tory MPs are not standing at the next election. There will be plenty of opportunities. Not that many people of quality will want to stand in case they lose.

Farage always strikes me as incredibly lazy though. Just likes the limelight although that's taken him far.

Supercat100 · 15/10/2023 13:57

He doesn't want to. I saw a q & a with him a few days ago and he said he had no interest in joining the Conservatives.

LizzieSiddal · 15/10/2023 14:04

I’m hope he doesn’t stand as a Tory but instead incourage’s all the swivelled eyed far right, Tory voters to vote Reform or UKIP (or whatever it’s called now), that will split the Tory vote and Labour will get an even bigger majority.

dubsie · 15/10/2023 16:30

Unlikely because of the scale of the coming defeat. Labour will have at least 2 terms and it won't be a revolution it will be a sensible move to the center ground...some policy will be left leaning others right

I wanted a Corbyn government but they concocted a lie about being anti Jewish and the media went all rabid. Corbyn was never anti Jewish ..anti apartheid not anti Jewish.

I suspect secret service, Israel and our so called American rulers did that.

But no matter Keir will still be better than what we have

Disagree, GB News is the only news channel we watch, he talks about real things happening, unlike the BBC. He has a huge audience, that is why the far left want to shut the channel down.

This .
I haven't watched the BBC since GB news arrived . We've got to the stage when anything deemed ' right 'is vilified by the loud shouty left . Well an awful lot of people do have concerns about what is happening in this country and GN News is the only station that covers both sides of the argument.

Real things like what?

bombastix · 15/10/2023 16:48

Peter Mandleson says he likes GB News because it's tearing the Conservatives to bits.

He's right. It is.

User135644 · 15/10/2023 16:58

He's just another populist like Boris. Can spout off from the sidelines but got no answers to problems. Like the small boats issue which is a direct cause of the Brexit he championed.

It's just a right wing echo chamber.

Farage is an effective agitator and has a snake oil charm to him. He's got no answers in reality though, he's just a campaigner. He can be good at highlighting what's going wrong, but he's directly caused many of them.

Both sides of the argument?

Both sides? Yet there are more than two political parties in the UK. Still... almost all of them are united in thinking that Farage is a twat.

Psst! There are more than two news channels as well.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/10/2023 10:34

GB news is drivel for the masses, to whip up hate and court voters to the right wing. The nasty channel.

PermanentTemporary · 16/10/2023 16:29

I think GB news or the founder believes it's for the masses, but viewing figures are tiny. I'll admit they're growing a bit with their strategy of making clickbait, but it seems like the 'silent majority' is more like the 'extremely loud 1%'.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/10/2023 18:56

Grantanow · 21/10/2023 14:47

It's poison that channel....utter dribble for dribblers

There has been an undercurrent of anti-intellectualism in this country and inverse snobbery, but years of Tory rule has eroded the education system, muzzled regulators, moved the BBC news to the right, and allowed social media to trample impartiality and balance to such an extent that people now cannot discern propaganda from a fair and balanced item of news, then rail against balanced news as being biased. It has allowed the likes of GB News to be regarded as a valid news source rather than a tawdry right wing propaganda outlet.

^ this. I couldn’t agree more.

YokoOnosBigHat · 04/11/2023 21:44

I don't know what's weirder or bleaker, that there is a large audience for GB News and that poster is real, or someone wants to make other people think that there's a large audience for GB News. Oh and that anyone left of Hitler is the "Far Left".

erm.... yes. perhaps you should try get your news from multiple sources rather than one? GB news viewing figures are much lower than others (you should maybe Google the viewing numbers).

there is no far left in this country. no one is calling for communal ownership of the means of production. far right however is well and truly alive.
