If there was a GE today who would you vote for?

Bit cheeky but I’m curious to see if there are genuinely any Tory voters out there at all following another disastrous week for Rishi Sunak.

So who would get your vote?

I‘ll go first, I would vote Labour. As much as I would love to hear more on policy and a firm grittiness from them, I do understand that Keir Starmer is doing the best he can, in that he can’t alienate a large proportion of the electorate so needs to toe the line.

Makes me sad a lot of people saying they will vote Tory and only concerned about their bloody kids private school fees. Honestly people need to open their eyes and engage their brains.

and we wonder why x parties get into power, what happened to people thinking of the future of the country ?

Anyone but conservatives- the blatant lying and corruption is not even hidden now.

We have one of the fairly decent tory MPs who is very present and active in the area - but cannot support the current party & will never forgive them for Brexit.

I have voted both in the past (mainly tories) but I can’t stand conservative & I can’t stand Labour. For the first time ever, I have no clue.

This is where I stand. Both are shit.

Sadik · 23/09/2023 21:42

Plaid Cymru - labour not going to win in my constituency, & the local plaid MP does a good job.
Welsh elections I either vote Labour or split my vote with plaid, I think having to collaborate makes for more sensible & moderate government. I really wish we had proportional representation in Westminster too.

It's very naive to think that people will vote against the best interests of their own family. No one is that altruistic, whatever they may say publicly

So I'd be very surprised if anyone with kids in private school votes for a 20% increase. Anymore than someone on UC voting for a party promising a 20% decrease in their income

People vote for what is important to them, not the future of the country

BitOutOfPractice · 23/09/2023 21:43

@crew2022 you don’t need to worry about Sadiq Khan. He’s not standing in any GE. 🙄

Conservative without hesitation. Labour trying to get back in with the EU doesn't bear thinking about.

A they're nit and if they were an even better reason to vote for them, especially as brecit just looks more stupid every day.

But don't worry, the Conservatives are doing it bit by bit. We've rejoined Horizon on worse and more expensive terms than before. We'll carry on doing that, it just going to be more expensive and worse terms...

Exactly. It is a very sad state of affairs.

@jgw1

You do now, surely, realise that the meat tax was never a policy and was never intended to be a policy, same as car sharing. It was never a policy so he has cancelled nothing.

Its all lies. You'd do well to look at neutral political opinion. I'd post two famous clips but I can't seem to do it on here.

You are confused. Sunak did not say he was scrapping a policy, he was scrapping the proposal of a meat and two veg tax.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/09/2023 21:45

@AnonAnonandAriston i can absolutely guarantee that a Labour will not benefit me personally. But that’s who I’ll be voting for. That’s who I’ve always voted for. And always will. Because that’s what I think is best for the people who need help most. Sorry if that doesn’t fit yurt narrative.

and then they will still then complain that the country is pickled etc due to the party they voted for, when its like you chose the party based on one aspect you wanted etc

Specifically what benefits has leaving the EU brought to you so far?

toolate2 · 23/09/2023 21:47

I would vote conservative after welsh labour bringing in the ridiculous 20 mph speed limit this week.

Peachee · 23/09/2023 21:47

Labour

drivers should not be speeding, 20mph is fast enough, mind it does not help with some drivers using mobiles, etc when driving

I quite agree the future of the country and the planet is not important as long as I can drive my SUV to my child's school so they don't have to be educated with poor people.

Taking back control of our borders was worth it for me.
Quite why the French keep letting migrants cross the channel I don't understand though. They need telling.

DarkDarkNight · 23/09/2023 21:50

Anybody who would get the Tories out. I can’t believe people are still thinking of voting Tory. We really are Turkeys voting for Christmas at this stage.

tiggergoesbounce · 23/09/2023 21:51

Obviously Labour at the moment.

This thread has reminded me that self interest in short term gains is alive and well. And then we wonder why our politicians are interested in long term investment in strategic infrastructure.

More sewage in the waterways and more flooding I say!

Lib Dem because my local MP is a goodun
