If there was a GE today who would you vote for?

Bit cheeky but I’m curious to see if there are genuinely any Tory voters out there at all following another disastrous week for Rishi Sunak.

So who would get your vote?

I‘ll go first, I would vote Labour. As much as I would love to hear more on policy and a firm grittiness from them, I do understand that Keir Starmer is doing the best he can, in that he can’t alienate a large proportion of the electorate so needs to toe the line.

I won't vote for Starmer until he openly says that a woman can't have a penis.

100Bees · 23/09/2023 21:53

I'm a Lib Dem voter but live in marginal conservative area. I'll be tactical voting Labour to get them out.

Unlike others on this thread, I vote for what I think is good for the society, not me personally. We have children in private school and whilst we don't want to pay more, it's a fair redistribution of wealth to add VAT to school fees.

Which muppet is that? But Jeremy corbyn?

AnonAnonandAriston · 23/09/2023 21:56

surley thats how people would be better voting, whats best for the country overall ?

And the joy of democracy is that people can disagree with what that is and how to achieve it.

But I still think anyone who believes that the majority of people will purposely vote for policies that are going to cause their own family detriment is living in cloud cuckoo land

tiggergoesbounce · 23/09/2023 21:56

Because hes a complete drip. He just has nothing about him, no leadership skills. On a world stage he will be walked all over

But he's already got a meeting with Macron, so getting himself in front of people and turning up to the world stage is a good start

I'm not a huge fan of Starmer but if you're going vote to let the Tories in again at the next election because you just find Keir "totally cringe" then god fucking help you, or more importantly, everyone else.

Well said. JFC this thread is depressing.

Sdpbody · 23/09/2023 21:56

Conservative. I don't want 20% vat added to our school fees.

Is that honestly all you are bothered about?

CClaire · 23/09/2023 21:58

@AnonAnonandAriston surely it’s in all/private school children’s favour not to wilfully exacerbate climate catastrophe within their lifetimes?

No one is adding 20% to school fees as school education is free in the UK.

Makes me sad a lot of people saying they will vote Tory and only concerned about their bloody kids private school fees. Honestly people need to open their eyes and engage their brains.

I’m putting my DS first. Moving my DS to a state school would destroy his mental health, just like mine was. I ultimately tried to commit suicide aged 16. I am fucking engaging my brain.

Vinvertebrate · 23/09/2023 21:59

I’m less worried about 20% added to school fees than about how the overstretched state schools will accommodate the pupils whose parents can’t find the additional funds. They’re not exactly crying out for more state school pupils around here.

100Bees · 23/09/2023 22:00

@AnonAnonandAriston I'll be voting Labour and have children in private school. Not everyone with children in private school is entirely self interested.

In the interests of factual accuracy rolls are falling in primary schools and they will follow in secondary in a few years. It is simple demographics.

Digimoor · 23/09/2023 22:02

Assuming our current MP stands again I won't be voting labour
She has drunk the gender kool-aid and thinks sex segregated spaces should be a open to all

Vinvertebrate · 23/09/2023 22:03

It’s probably area-dependent, but here state primaries are either over-subscribed or rough as a badger’s arse. We only got DS into a decent one because of his EHCP.

So the trend may be downwards but it will still impact current cohorts.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/09/2023 22:04

StarDolphins · 23/09/2023 21:04

if Labour got in now, COL crisis wouldn’t improve. Then who would we blame?

I’m not voting tories btw, but the state of cost/standard of living isn’t just happing in the U.K.

It is lasting longer and going deeper than any other western nations

tiggergoesbounce · 23/09/2023 22:05

Macron is on thin ice himself

With regards to his popularity within France ?

Or with regard to how other countries view him?

tiggergoesbounce · 23/09/2023 22:08

Which countries are you saying are comparably as wealthy and have the same amount of poverty and crisis in their population?
