Wish I'd have known all these piffley rules were optional. I had a stroke when he had his party, I obviously should have insisted DH came with me in the ambulance and very definitely should not have spent two and a half weeks alone in hospital 😡

so sorry drivin, his excuses must be so hard to hear

I needed to "steady the ship".

Fuck off.

How many people left jobs all on their own. No drinks, no one after having to 'steady the ship' by having farewell events.

He is making out they are more necessary than a funeral. Than not being able to visit dying relatives.
But 'steadying the ship' is more important.

Nimbostratus100 · 22/03/2023 15:10

I changed my job during lockdown. I didn't know a goodbye party was necessary for work reasons. We seem to have coped without

drivinmecrazy · 22/03/2023 15:11

I knew I would get angry watching this but it's actually incredibly triggering.
I live in Hope that this will bring him down once and for all, sadly I don't for one minute it will happen

Nimbostratus100 · 22/03/2023 15:11

he is sure that there are time we drifted within 2m of each other? Not for a goodbye party, surprisingly enough

Why can't the public see the pixilated photos? What's he hiding?

The people who are pixilated deserve privacy, at the moment.

If they decide to swear an oath and allow thier interviews to be published, then maybe thier faces will be unpixilated

JenniferBooth · 22/03/2023 15:11

Indeed Why cant we see the pixellated photos After all we were put through all the lockdowns and restrictions and crap.

MrsLeonFarrell · 22/03/2023 15:08

I'm doing exactly that. My MIL died in the first lockdown. I am disgusted that Boris is basically saying that thank you parties were fine at the same time as she died alone and I couldn't even hold my husband's hand at the funeral.

I don't think he has any idea why people are so angry and is completely convinced he was right.

Anyone else remember the bloke who moved the chair so he could sit near his mum at his dads funeral and he got a bollcking and told to move back away

Yes, that was heart breaking. It was so so so awful.

Sir Bernard is going in for it. Saying leaving dos didn't happen, for others. Why should they happen in No.10?

"I believe that was my job" says he

He keeps going on about mitigations. Testing was a mitigation he is trying to say.

elastamum · 22/03/2023 15:14

This is all bullshit and BJ knows it. I retired from my job in march 2021 after leading a business through the pandemic and I had my leaving do with over 200 people on zoom. It never occurred to us that a piss up was OK within the rules. He clearly thinks rules were just for the little people.

Songlines · 22/03/2023 15:14

This is making me so angry; excuse after excuse and attempted justifications left, right and centre

DuncinToffee · 22/03/2023 15:14

Ian Dunt

There is in general a strong undercurrent of entitled rage in Johnson. There always has been ie under hostile press questioning. It's on display here and after a few hours of this it might get quite high volume.

Saved by the bell!

Roussette · 22/03/2023 15:16

When he starts blustering, and tripping over his words, and ummmm ahhhh ummm ummm....
That means he is on shaky ground, and he doesn't have the answers.

Of course he knows it 😁

Thats why he can't string a sentence together.
And then he quickly tries to reframe the question back to where he feels comfortable.

MrsLeonFarrell · 22/03/2023 15:18

I'm pretty sure they are ringing the division bell so that the country's blood pressure gets a brief chance to return to normal.

DuncinToffee · 22/03/2023 15:20

Ian Dunt

Jenkins: the photographs do not show any work being done. Why did it not occur to you that it might not be necessary for work purposes. Johnson, livid, insisting it didn't occur to him at all.

Drinking, work, all the same to Johnson

Can I just quickly say, (hopefully i speak for everyone)
This thread might descend into us taking the piss out of Boris Johnson and what he says, but we know people died and for anyone who lost a family member or friend, we know this incredibly tough for you and we send our love to you ❤️

(Oh I got all unmumsnetty there)

During his time in PMQ he would have had his witty responses ready. Now he has to behave himself he can't do that Smile

tobee · 22/03/2023 15:21

He's doing his usual thing of pretending he's repeating the question asked but actually turning it into a question he can slightly more easily answer. Despicable trick!

That is so true. So many people went through so so much.

tobee · 22/03/2023 15:23

Also he's shitty comment to Sir Bernard about the word party.

minou123 · 22/03/2023 15:23

There's school children in Parliament. Good god 😳 who needs to sully these innocent minds 😁
