To wonder what made Liz Truss become a Tory

Considering her family were Liberal Democrat's and she was taken at a young age to Ban the Bomb marches etc . I wonder what changed her views . Apparently she is an admirer of Margaret Thatcher. Total polar opposite to how she was brought up .

was she a Lib Dem member? I thought she was at one time. She actually protested against Mrs Thatchers policies. Now says Mrs T was her heroine!

She bends to the latest trends and ideas that give her a platform to get to the top. She’s good on student politics but hasn’t greater depth of thought! She obviously lies!

AsanteSana · 14/10/2022 21:20

As @TizerorFizz said - the weathercock Prime Minister who changes direction every time the wind alters, and just says or does whatever comes into her vaccuous, empty head in order to survive in a world where she is totally out of her depth. Any clot who actually believes she is capable of an original thought of her own is living in an imaginary, parallel universe

TizerorFizz · 14/10/2022 22:02

@AsanteSana
Conservative members! They imagined she was worthy of support!

She also blames everyone else. IMF, Sunak, KK, France, OBR etc. She doesn’t understand the consequences of her policies yet was warned.

Personal ambition. She's a chameleon.

BobLobIaw · 14/10/2022 22:05

Some random evil gene.

Believeitornot · 14/10/2022 22:06

Her family were left wing not Lib Dem? She was a Lib Dem as a student.

my working theory is that she’s one of those people pleasers who goes with the crowd. Turned herself into a Tory because that’s what most of her peers were doing. Probably surrounded herself with a load of free market types and got caught up in that.

Hasn’t actually spent much time really exploring politics is my guess.

mowly77 · 14/10/2022 22:07

I think between @BobLobIaw and @Believeitornot we have our answer

notdaddycool · 14/10/2022 22:07

I think she still a Lib Dem, but working undercover to sabotage the Tory party.

When she was a councillor in Greenwich, she gained a reputation for being someone who will do absolutely anything to get to the top. No personal integrity or values - just whatever it takes

Ganymedemoon · 14/10/2022 22:12

It's all about getting to the top any which way how. Career politics. It's not about what you believe in.

Blind ambition

Coupled with poor emotional intelligence.

Sprinkle in some entitlement

A healthy dash of stupidity

Simmer for 15 years.

Power and the wish to fuck over the country

ImissyouBR1 · 14/10/2022 22:17

I used to be in the youth lib dems, and there was a woman who had a terrible reputation for being unbelievably stupid but managed to get away with it.

I'm sure it was her! I've lost contact with my student friends to ask but I'm convinced.

Like the type of person who'd mess up her own weekly shop, blame the cashier, then call the manager and strut off home with an apology from the supermarket and a £20 voucher.

Fucks up, blames the hardworking people, gets an apology for no reason and some free cash! Pah

TizerorFizz · 14/10/2022 22:19

@Ganymedemoon
I think she believes in deregulation, that growth in the economy fuels better employment prospects and lower taxation prompts growth. Unfortunately she didn’t understand how to go about it and changed policies way too quickly. She’s a very obstinate woman.

OddshoesOddsocks · 14/10/2022 22:19

I come from a family of Boris loving, DM reading Tories and I am the complete opposite. Just because you’re brought up that way doesn’t mean you’ll follow suit 🤷‍♀️

Liebig · 14/10/2022 22:19

Populist chancer with no ideology to follow. She seems to me like, as others have said, the kind to go after the current big thing as a movement.

And she’s a free market lolbertarian, so by default she has to be dumb.

Well she also likes to change her mind a lot! With Jeremy Hunt now appointed as chancellor, she's placed someone who sits as the opposite end of the spectrum within the party next to her. So what does she believe? Just that she wants a political career at any cost!

pastabest · 15/10/2022 09:01

Tim Farron has claimed she might have got the idea from one of his speeches.

She did follow suit but at some point completely turned .

She did follow suit but at some point completely did a turnaround. I just wondered when that point was .

And very much mixed with the odd bunch at school. A social outcast who thought 'I will show you'! Well she certainly is now isn't she. ( I'm friends with her old school colleague)
