Why is a non-economist in charge of the country's economy?

Being unable to comprehend the chancellor's economic strategy, I googled his background. His degree was in classics and history. Where are his credentials that equip him with the skills needed to be in charge of a whole country's economy?

I just don't get it. Why are we continuing to put non-specialists at the very top of their government department?

I’m not! I’m having an opinion about the most controversial part of the mini budget and asked a question about how to compete internationally if our top rate is so much higher. Then someone replied to me about Nz and I expanded. Then you came on to tell me what I can and can’t say. That’s what happened.

you’re very bossy!

I've just read that KK is blaming the pressure of the Queen's death for his mini-budget.

How low can he stoop?
It's also a bit of an admission that the budget was flawed.

WTF?!Grin

It's hardly as if his mother had died.

Still good to see some awareness from the Chancellor that his mini-budget was a steaming pile of shit, and to get some recognition of the fact that some sort of excuse might be needed. Surely they could have come up with something better than that though?!

I know, unbelievable!
Was scrolling across the bottom of the screen on LBC. Was watching James O'Brien on YT.

@CurlyhairedAssassin
I think there is a strong argument for the Chancellor to have been a Treasury minister and have an Economics background. Other ministries less need to be an expert so they are less focussed on one topic. Some are, like health, defence etc but those roles have a lot of branches. The Chancellor’s sole job is budgets and fiscal direction. They get bids from spending departments but it’s definitely more focussed and attention to detail is vital.
