Hi mums, as a primary and secondary school teacher I am interested in what mumsnet mums think about your children being exposed to: drag queens reading stories to your little ones; political thoughts and ideas being given to young children which could cause confusion? Would like to hear your thoughts?
Many thanks.^^

Totally opposed to it. It's indoctrination of our children with an extremist ideology that has been shoehorned into public institutions by the back door. Its harmful to convince children they can change sex with no adverse consequences to themselves, and its harmful to normalise sexualised behaviour around children.

gingersplodgecat · 30/06/2022 16:47

Primary school children are too young to be subjected to any political thoughts and ideas other than what is entirely impartial and in the National Curriculum.

You seem to know a lot about it OP why don’t you tell us your thoughts? Or perhaps at least explain why you’re asking. You sound like a journalist or similar

blacksax · 30/06/2022 16:54

I'm absolutely fine with drag queens reading stories to children. Nothing wrong with that. I don't care what people look like or how they dress.

But I do care about what is being pressed into the brains of impressionable young children who do not have the maturity to process what they are being told.

HermioneWeasley · 30/06/2022 16:55

Totally opposed - drag is adult entertainment and is a highly sexualised parody of womanhood. I have yet to see an explanation of how children benefit from being exposed to it

artisanbread · 30/06/2022 16:56

What do you teach that makes you a primary and secondary school teacher?

I am a primary school teacher and none of the above has been happening in my school.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/06/2022 16:58

Not this again.

Echoing this.

I also know of no other primary schools where either of these things are happening.

NoToLandfill · 30/06/2022 17:00

HORRIFIED.
my DD's teacher told them some people change gender. They are 9. Should absolutely not be discussed in primary school

FriendlyPineapple · 30/06/2022 17:02

There is not one justifiable or logical reason for any adult to come into school wearing underwear or sexualised clothing to read bedtime stories to children.

Im not. I think it could be very confusing for most children and what is the actual point? WHY do we need drag queens reading stories to children? What purpose is it serving? Who is gaining from this?

I think it's ridiculous and unfortunately mainly to do with being desperate to have some kind of woke agenda rather than actually having any positive/helpful basis in real life. Children should not be being told that it is possible for them to change sex if they don't "feel like a girl/boy". It's dangerous and it is basically lying to impressionable young children.

I was very angry at my ds's recent graduation to be told that there will no longer be a Head Girl/Boy but Head People. Why? Is it wrong to be a girl or a boy now? 99.9% of the population should discard their sex to make an extremely EXTREMELY small percentage of people (who may or may not even give a fuck) potentially feel better about their choices or "pronouns" or whatever the fuck it is being called this week?

I just feel like the world has gone fucking mad.

TheSonjaMorgan · 30/06/2022 17:12

I am against indoctrination of any ideology into my children. I want the teachers to teach them facts not opinions. They should not even know what the opinions of the teachers are to things, they should be completely unbiased.

People can't change sex. At no point in the school curriculum is it appropriate to pretend to children that they can.

Single sex facilities in schools should remain single sex and additional provision should be found for non binary and transgender children.

ehb102 · 30/06/2022 17:15

Unacceptable.

In Rainbows the leader explained that she wasn't a boy or a girl to five and six year olds. Lies. Indoctrination.

Bobnotpop · 30/06/2022 17:17

Would you invite a man to read to the children, encourage them to twerk, use highly sexualised language, mock women like their mothers and blow kisses at them? why is it ok if they’re wearing a skirt?

gender theory is a belief, like any religion or philosophy. We live in a democracy so we all have a right to our beliefs, but also not to believe. These beliefs shouldn’t be taught as fact to young people, wait until they’re old enough to understand the nuances and if really necessary teach it as something that some people believe. I nature that when it is taught that all the facts are made clear, including some of the less palatable ones, like puberty blockers preventing orgasm in some people. Again, they need to be old enough to properly understand the ramifications.

most importantly I’d like children to be taught that they really can be their authentic selves. If boys & men want to explore their feminine sides, brilliant- do it. If women don’t want to conform to feminine stereotypes- hooray, that’s cool. You’re still men and women, boys and girls - you don’t have to alter your bodies, you don’t have to join a different club. Don’t leave the gang and call yourselves non binary, help the rest of us show the world that men and women come in all sorts of packages.

I think the op is on a fishing expedition. They'll be screenshotting for their twatter account.

Not this again.

Somebody thinks of a new and exciting way to reintroduce this topic at least once a day so maybe just read a few of the other threads?

politicalbabe · 01/07/2022 10:38

Hi so pleased to hear that most mums would not be happy about this. I have my own very small school so of course I'm not teaching "transgender studies," however, I'm hearing some reports from mums about nephews and nieces who at primary level, are confused about their own identity. I do believe that mums should keep a careful eye on this and if you are concerned, ask to see the school's PSHE curriculum. I hear that some schools in Brighton are using drag queen's to read stories to primary aged children. Don't forget that we, the tax payer, are paying for this nonsense. Don't forget that you the parents are allowed to have access to the school's curriculum. Also, speak or write to your MP. What are the government doing about this?

How crazy is that! She or he should not be allowed to indoctrinate your children.

OP posts:
politicalbabe · 01/07/2022 10:41

I agree - these drag queens are for an adult audience not for our primary aged children. Protest, write to your MP...I'm going to!

OP posts:
politicalbabe · 01/07/2022 10:42

Yes, and our children should not be used as an experiment! Protest, speak, write to your MP.

politicalbabe · 01/07/2022 10:43

I totally agree - these beliefs are not facts - but are being taught as facts! It is crazy to say to a primary aged child that there are 92 genders! What crazy cult idea is this!

OP posts:
politicalbabe · 01/07/2022 10:44

Yes I totally agree - the UK is not China or Russia.
