God knows why you think Sally deserves an apology Autumn
Her post blaming the EU for cuts to local authority adult social care was batshit.

Please don't drag arguments from another thread over to this one. Thank you.

Morning, all,

Well, can you believe it? At long last, the day we have been waiting for. It’s been a long haul; only 1317 days since the referendum. Sometimes it seemed as though we would never get here. But we have. In x hours and x minutes, the UK will formally and legally leave the EU. The Lisbon Treaty will no longer apply. Neither will the Treaties of Amsterdam, Nice or Maastricht.

It being Friday, neither the HoC nor the HoL will be sitting, although the work of government will go on. Boris will hold a special Cabinet meeting this morning in Sunderland - remember that glorious moment when Sunderland sent a shockwave through the Remain campaign by voting 61% Leave? - and his key message to ministers is that they must focus on delivering the benefits that come from the UK’s newfound freedom from Brussels. According to the Telegraph, “To give workers the feeling of an immediate Brexit bounce, Mr Johnson approved an increase in the threshold at which workers start paying National Insurance from £8,628 to £9,500, resulting in a tax cut of £104 for a typical employee starting in April.”

Boris will make a special address to the country at 10pm. The address, recorded on Thursday “will be published by Downing Street on social media, as well as being given to broadcasters, but the BBC was accused by MPs of being “churlish” for refusing to guarantee it will show the video in news bulletins”. The BBC has said it will “judge it on its news value” before deciding whether to air it.

Government buildings will be lit up in red, white and blue and Downing Street will be illuminated with a Brexit-themed light display to mark the moment we leave at 11pm tonight.

Today’s complimentary breakfast is sausage and egg barm with spicy homemade ketchup. Please help yourselves.

Kettle’s on ☕️☕️☕️ although in honour of the day, there is a tray of complimentary Buck’s Fizz 🥂 too.

Morning singing, dusty and all Brew

Today is most definitely the day, it's been a bumpy ride to say the least but the power of the ballot box and democracy has seen us to the finish line (despite the best endeavours of some others with a somewhat warped sense of what is right).

With every vote being being equal and counted we have made our mark in the history books and I for one will be celebrating that achievement tonight.🍾🍾🍷🥂🎉🎊

Today unfortunately, I will be working so lurking but will see you all later 😘🥰.

Limer · 31/01/2020 08:28

Morning everyone and celebratory greetings all round! I notice that Boris & Co are in Sunderland today - I remember that delicious moment so well, when that result came in!

This thread has moved fast, I've not caught up with it all yet. I'll have a good read when I sit down later with the first glass of fizz, to toast the Dawn of the New Era Grin

Coppersulphate · 31/01/2020 08:31

Morning all, and thank you again for the breakfast Singing.

I am so excited🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Coppersulphate · 31/01/2020 08:33

Posted too soon.
Off for mammogram and to village party tonight.
Listening to the Today programme and they are talking about the race for no. 1 in the charts.
They played a part of 17m (very carefully, just listing the" helpers" and the Ode.

Thistimetomorrow · 31/01/2020 08:34

Good morning everyone. The big day has arrived and tomorrow will be a new dawn of opportunities, new partnerships.
Tonight, I will be watching Boris’ address, celebrating quietly, not triumphantly and raising a glass to new beginnings.
I’m also going to buy a newspaper to put along with our referendum polling cards for DS to put in his keepsake box, as I do to remember significant events in our history.
Continuing on in my music theme is Phil Collins -
I can feel it (coming in the air tonight oh Lord)

ommmward · 31/01/2020 08:37

I keep thinking about the 2019 European election and the general one, and the revenge of the electorate on our sergeant pepper crew, and chauvelin (sp?) in the Scarlet Pimpernel. "Oh the English and their STUPID sense of fair play". People told us we were wrong to vote to leave the EU. We were misguided, stupid, racist, and an alternative to honouring that vote was surely what the electorate really wanted, or would if they knew what was good for them. And we waited for our chance to put an X in the ballot box again, and we didn't start rioting in the streets, and we thought about the consequences of not respecting the 2016 vote, whatever we'd voted in it and whatever the merits of the outcomes and eventually, eventually we got to today. And chauvelin is definitely somewhere out in the ether saying that line.

SingingLily · 31/01/2020 08:58

Good luck with the mammogram, Copper (ouch! Rather you than me Smile)

And we waited for our chance to put an X in the ballot box again

We are the people who don't protest in the streets, the ones who don't make a song and dance about it. We just go in to the polling booth and quietly have our say. I love democracy! How many people in how many other countries would love to be able to do the same, quietly and in perfect safety.

Dominic Frisby is still making me laugh. Last night, he conceded that Ode to Joy will probably take the No. 1 spot but he joked "People didn't know what they were buying so we're going to run the charts again. We're going to have a People's Chart!"

AutumnRose1 · 31/01/2020 09:13

Morning all
Beautiful breakfast

I take my hat off to Frisby for that one 😂

The BBC. Lol.

Most of this 1317 days, I didn’t believe we’d leave but here we are, how nice.

SilverySurfer · 31/01/2020 09:23

Happy Exit Day everyone. I can hardly believe it's happening at long last. I would break out in a celebratory song except I'm tone deaf.

Dusty, thank you for the thread and all your brilliant montages - you're a genius. Sorry you can't open the champagne until you get home later, mine will be opened somewhat earlier Grin

Lily, thank you too for all the yummy breakfasts, you must be exhausted and hope you have a brilliant time tonight at your posh event. I hope you can find time to slip to the ladies at some point to tell us all about it.

except I'm tone deaf.

In that case, Silvery, you qualify for the choir Autumn and I are starting. I could clear a room in ten seconds flat myself just by singing to them so I reckon the three of us could make a fortune in the crowd control business Grin

Saucery · 31/01/2020 09:33

I thought Steve Baker on the Today programme struck just the right note about feelings today. Very measured and sensible words.

SilverySurfer · 31/01/2020 09:35

Sounds like a deal Lily Grin This flag is better than last one.

Did someone mention Bucks fizz?
Lovely breakfast and Friday round-up Lily

Well, here we are. Democracy prevailed. I'll drink to that. Wine

Have a great day everyone. Smile

notangelinajolie · 31/01/2020 10:04

Happy Brexit Day one and all 🇬🇧

It's a bittersweet day for me because I lost my Mum on this date 2 years ago. She would have been 87 and was a staunch remainer. She was child during WW2 and witnessed war with our close European neighbours - she said she never wanted to see that again and was bloody terrified that history would repeat itself if we left the EU. I'm off to buy her some flowers in a wee while and tell her it's all going to be ok. Which I'm positive it will be Smile

I be back later to raise a glass Wine

EpicIndividual · 31/01/2020 10:14

Morning All!

Happy Brexit Day!!!!

I can’t believe we finally got here, after everything!

I’m not out partying, as I’m happy enough that it’s just happening at all now tbh, but cheers 🥂 to all who are! No more unelected, over paid, anti democratic overlords. Hooray! 🙌🙌🙌🥂

Also, I don’t care about any potential pop up goaders. Just step over them, there’s always one or two angry drunks at a party. Let others cry into their sherry on another thread, because that’s ok too. But Just imagine the nasty ones that appear here, like Steve Bray, but with his megaphone unknowingly switched off. 😂

Lovely breakfast Lily, intrigued by the spicy ketchup! Hope you have a marvelous shindig tonight! We look forward to your sneaky update!

Correction on the ‘unelected Overlords’... of course they still have us in their tenuous grip until the end of transition, but symbolically as of tonight? 17 million F**k offs. (Personally mine is reserved for Guy Verhofstad 😂)

Coppersulphate · 31/01/2020 10:31

Back from mammogram. Much easier than earlier one. It's just routine so not expecting any problems.
The NHS is so good and I certainly take it for granted.

Singing do enjoy your dinner tonight and send them good wishes from the Westminster Arms. Invite them over for breakfast.
And, of course post updates to tell us all about it.

I am supposed to be writing a presentation but I am too excited. So, I will curl up in the snug, with breakfast and a large, weak tea.
I am looking forward to Boris' speech tonight. Bubbly in the fridge.

AutumnRose1 · 31/01/2020 10:31

jolie hope you're okay. My father was a Remainer but he also believed that politicians are gonna...politic!

Epic so nice to see you. MWAH.

SilverySurfer · 31/01/2020 10:40

Currently having fun on the supposed Brexit celebration thread in AIBU. One remainer charmingly said she wanted to spit at us lol - such class. I reported so it has gone now but the whiners are wading in and taking over the thread. Such a pity we can't have a single thread on here without it being invaded.
