We forgot Dr Strange . DC.

DustyDiamond · 27/01/2020 21:26

There's just so many!
Every little sneer & snipe was another little push...

I bought 17 million on iTunes the other day - will be funny if Ode to Joy vs 17 Million fight it out to the last in an epic chart battle 😂

Will be like 1995 all over again when Blur & Oasis went head to head 😱😱

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Every little sneer & snipe was another little push...

Yes, for so many, it was Their Finest Moment.

They put everything on the line - their time, effort, cash, reputations, credibility.

Never was so much owed by so many to so few.

mummmy2017 · 27/01/2020 21:59

We told people that Joe Blogs was unhappy with what was playing out in Parliament and HOL.
That this would show up in the polls, so we are not surprised by the result.
I even wonder if France and Ireland might yet force a no deal.

scaryteacher · 28/01/2020 00:51

Can we add José Manuel Barroso, and Herman van Rompuy (and Cathy Ashton?)

The former for his admission that the EU had all the 'dimensions of Empire'; the middle one for his Haikus and the Farage assessment of his character..and finally Cathy Ashton for making dh fall off the sofa laughing when she was appointed as EU High Representative heading up the EEAS. He'd never heard of her, and here she was, about to be his new boss.

SingingLily · 28/01/2020 07:54

Morning all,

Overnight, we cleared the wall opposite the cheery fire in the snug for our gallery of Accidental Achievers. Dusty's meme holds pride of place but it really looks as though we are going to need a longer wall. Either that or a Sergeant Pepper's montage updated.

Señor Barroso, Monsieur Herman van Rompuy (the chap memorably described as having "all the charisma of a damp rag and the appearance of a low-grade bank clerk.") and Baroness Ashton of Upholland (yes, who?) are worthy additions.

Space must also be found for Michael Heseltine who is visibly in mourning for his beloved EU. Who is going to guarantee his reported £200k per annum in EU subsidies now?

And then there's Leo Varadkar, desperately trying to improve his GE poll ratings with his latest salvo, "The UK has yet come to terms with the fact it’s now a small country”. It would be unkind to point out that the UK has the world's 6th largest economy without telling you where Ireland's economy ranks too but the truth is, I got bored after scanning through the top 20 and there was still no sign.

Still, they all played a blinder. Just don't get me started on George Osborne or Mark Carney.

Today, the HoC turns its mind to the Direct Payments to Farmers (Legislative Continuity) Bill: Committee and Remaining Stages. It will allow the UK to take over and directly make the same payments to farmers in 2020 that the EU did in 2019. I am pleased that our farmers will have that much-needed breathing space and support. Sadly, it's unlikely to be enough to stop Lord Heseltine from whinging.

On a lighter note, here's the Telegraph's take on Mr Bercow's desperate search for a peerage.

Toasted tea cakes for breakfast. Please help yourselves.

Kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

Morning all.
Thanks for breakfast and this morning's round up Lily. Oh yes, Heseltine!

Another well deserved addition to the AAs wall: Luxembourg's Xavier Bettel and his grandstanding, when after a meeting with Boris, a press meeting was arranged outside.

The area was lined with pro EU hecklers and Boris refused to go ahead as he wouldn't be heard. Xavier Bettel empty chaired him and boy, did all the anti Brexit fury come out.

The worse thing was, he was being nice as pie to his face. Boris got a lot of bad press for refusing to speak. Welcome to pride of place on the Arms' wall of AA fame Mr Bettel.

Coppersulphate · 28/01/2020 09:57

Thanks for the breakfast Singing. I love tea cakes.
I had forgotten about Heseltine and we will need Ken Clarke (or have we got him already). And the Guardian.

I am just going to sit quietly by the fire with a mug of tea and some breakfast.

Love that cartoon Singing.

SingingLily · 28/01/2020 11:39

More worthy nominations! The wall space is filling up nicely.

A belated warm welcome, by the way, to TheRealMcKenna. I had completely forgotten about Phillip Lee, who was reportedly miffed at being passed over for Health Secretary and - I'm sure this was entirely unrelated - dramatically crossed the floor in September 2019 during yet another fractious Brexit debate and plonked himself next to the LibDems. The government lost its working majority at a stroke.

Dr Lee forgot to do the decent thing and notify the PM first. He didn't even tell his wife. She wasn't best pleased either. Still, Guido spotted these posters in a Westminster print shop the same morning and Dr Lee was eventually rewarded with the shadow-shadow-post of LibDem Spokesperson for Justice, a grand title he held for a record 52 days until the electorate so cruelly handed him his P45.

Wonder what he's doing now?

Not long now folks (helps self to Brandy) - throws log on fire (I've stacked em up enough to last til closing). I am taking a very low key stance on the upcoming 'significant date' - given that more than a few people don't hold my similar positive views....

Today I had a skype meeting with the Owner of one of my Company clients - Greek, lived in the UK 40+years, currently residing in Greece - as well as business he was just so much looking forward to Brexit Day.

I didn't share my similar thoughts, as I'm too 'professional', but I really wanted to say "Tel mate, innit".

mummmy2017 · 28/01/2020 16:13

Can we put David Cameron up twice, I blooming love that bloke.

MrsSnippyPants · 28/01/2020 16:19

May I ask you all to keep a decent distance around the fainting couch for the next 48 hours? I have been diagnosed with whooping cough and need to let the antibiotics kick in.
Good news is I will be able to go to London on Friday ha ha!
I have adapted my old Roomba so I can send it to the bar for tops ups of tea and teacakes Grin

SingingLily · 28/01/2020 16:29

Here's my first go ever at posting a YouTube link. David "Brits don't quit" Cameron's finest moment when he surveyed the damage he'd done and decided to cut and run, mummmy. (If it doesn't work, my technophobe status remains unchanged).

That's an innovative use of a Roomba, MrsSnippy. We'll keep the tea and sustenance flowing and hope you feel much better soon.

hospitalityinspector · 28/01/2020 17:02

It worked Lily. If only we'd known what was to come after that 'I'll steady the ship' speech Shock

Get better soon snippy. Could I get you a mulled wine to ease your cough, left over from Christmas but still in date?

MrsSnippyPants · 28/01/2020 17:06

I won't say no hospitality, I like to tidy up these odds and sods lying around from Christmas. Any After Eights?

HateIsNotGood · 28/01/2020 17:08

I'm going for a mooch around (flask on hip - pint in hand) - my goal is to keep 'measured' whilst watching it all pan out. Haha - maybe.

There is a lot of 'newsworthy' news going on too, which I do find somewhat refreshing, but one doesn't take the eye off the ball, and so far I quite like what I'm hearing about 'policy' directions.

Cheers all - stacks up fire - and elegantly sashays out into the night.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/01/2020 17:15

Ahhhhhhh, remember the good old days!

The Westminster Arms
AutumnRose1 · 28/01/2020 17:22

Lily your link works!

And reminds me...I went to bed around 5.30 that morning....so by the time I got out of bed, Cameron, having promised to respect the result and enact it, had resigned!

Coppersulphate · 28/01/2020 17:56

Your link works well Singing. I remember it well. I had stayed up watching BBC resigned to losing, and I remember David Dimbleby saying we are leaving the European Union.
Then I watched DC and somehow thought it would go through Parliament easily, not quickly, but easily.

Fool that I was.

I am still baffled by MPs whose manifestos said they will honour the result, campaigning to remain.
Still baffled.
And I won't believe it's happening until 11pm on Friday.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Gina Miller asking for a judicial review. Can we kidnap her until Saturday

Can we please put a picture of her in the corner covering the darts board.
I think it will attract more customers.

Large cappuccino from that shiny new machine please.
Don't suppose you have any cherry pie left over Singing.

Get well soon Snippy and stay away from China.

MrsSnippyPants · 28/01/2020 18:13

Thanks all.
And Copper the GP did ask if I had been to China!

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/01/2020 18:55

Just had an email from the Conservative party trying to sell me official Brexit 'Merch'.

A 'Got Brexit Done' teatowel, with pic of Boris on it.
An 'I Got Brexit Done' Mug with 31st ofJan on it.
A 'Got Brexit Done' Magnet, with pic of Boris on it.
A Limited Edition 'vicTORY' mug with 14 million votes on it.

So tempting, I am spoilt for choice.

AutumnRose1 · 28/01/2020 18:57

I didn’t know there was official Brexit merch!

AutumnRose1 · 28/01/2020 19:00

Oh wow, pricey

And no postage calculation till you put your details in.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/01/2020 19:00
