Is dh right when he says he can't vote for Labour simply because of this?

Just had a discussion with DH as our postal votes are in soon. His sole reasoning as to why he can't vote for JC is that he's an extremist, he's a communist and because previously he has aligned himself with extremists and seemed to sympathise with them. He thinks there will be more attacks under GC as he won't be taken seriously and he will 'try to make friends with them if anything happens' rather than using a hard line.

He sent me this article when I asked him to back his views up.

I was thinking I would vote for labour but now rethinking. Is he right?

I wouldn’t go by one article. Do plenty of reading far and wide before you decide.

HINBU

carolina21 · 30/11/2019 21:44

I think ridiculous thought , considering what happened in London yesterday ? Under another government?

StoorieHoose · 30/11/2019 21:47

I would balance it up. What's the likelyhood of me being involved in a terror attack compared to needing the NHS? No brainer vote labour ( or vote tactically to keep the Tories out)

Yoollyball · 30/11/2019 21:52

You are voting for the party not the man - leaders cone and go.

Unusualsuspicion · 30/11/2019 21:55

If you have kids in state school or might need the NHS at any point, or don't want to crash out of the EU without a deal, then vote Labour (or whoever is most likely to oust the local Tory candidate). I can't stand JC either but the alternative is much, much scarier

Velveteenfruitbowl · 30/11/2019 21:59

That would be enough for me (but then again members of my family have been murdered and threatened communists and my ethnic group has faced one form of genocide/ethnic cleansing by one communist group or another for nearly a century now so perhaps I’m biased). I could never vote for someone who looks up to genocidal maniacs, it shows a complete lack of judgement.

bluebluezoo · 30/11/2019 21:59

This.

Plus whatever corbyn has done, is it worse than Boris? You could probably stir up a million links on boris and his Dodgy behaviour.

What about this woman? Comes across better than the above idiots.

What about boris and may visiting/unveiling a statue of a nazi sympathiser?

Vote for the party manifesto not for the leader. It's pretty narrow minded to vote just based on the parties leader. It's not a personality contest!

mummyrocks1 · 30/11/2019 22:05

Believe me I have made all the points above. I have said whilst that information is worrying it's not my priority. The likelihood of being caught in a terror attack is slim compared to the rising levels of crime, we ourselves have been burgled. I have explained about what I have seen first hand with tories in charge of schools and how tories are in talks about privatising the NHS and the increase in homelessness and gap between rich and poor.

He still maintains the view that he can't vote for a communist and GC is not a leader, he can't see him in charge. I agree to an extent but I am more worried about 5 more years under tories. He's in his own bubble as ultimately we are in a fortunate position and a Tory government won't affect us too much in our daily lives, except the price rises and potentially Brexit.

How can I persuade him to take a broader view?

He also said labour is rising corporation tax from 14% to 24% which would massively effect us. Is this true?thought it was only for big businesses.

Ironically he also voted remain! I said one of the main reasons for voting labour is because we might get a referendum. Still
His main priority is corporation tax and his view of GC

Hairyfairy01 · 30/11/2019 22:08

It's JC

MrsBertBibby · 30/11/2019 22:28

Corporation tax is currently 19%. Labour plan to increase to 21% from April 2020, and to 26% by 2023 with a lower rise for small business ((turnover below £300K.)

Jeremy Corbyn is not a communist, by any stretch. That is just silly.

If you are really scared about terrorism, never mind the Islamists, think about the very real threat of the resumption of terrorism from Ireland. You know how we reached the GF agreement? By talking to those terrorists. Because that's how you secure peace : you talk to the other side, you find common ground, you compromise.

And if your husband thinks Iran is a nasty regime, what does he make of Saudi Arabia?

carolina21 · 30/11/2019 22:37

He said he said , I thought woman had more choice these days ... then listening to he said he said .

Scotinthenorth · 30/11/2019 22:37

He’s right. There is photo and video evidence. No idea how he gets away with it. Momentum and the unions are obviously more powerful than I thought

carolina21 · 30/11/2019 22:38

You must have common sense ? Without what "he said"

MrsBertBibby · 30/11/2019 22:41

Momentum and the unions are obviously more powerful than I thought Grin

RubbishRubbishRubbish · 30/11/2019 22:42

I think your husband is being perfectly reasonable. Jeremy Corbyn is all kinds of potentially dangerous for the country.

MrsBertBibby · 30/11/2019 22:45

Dangerous how?

ohwheniknow · 30/11/2019 22:45

He also said labour is rising corporation tax from 14% to 24% which would massively effect us. Is this true?thought it was only for big businesses.

Corporation tax is 19%. So if that's a major concern of his it's quite frightening he's so ill informed.

TiceCream · 30/11/2019 22:47

I cannot vote for Corbyn. If Labour had a new leader they might get my vote. Imo having Corbyn at the helm will cost them the election.

KenDodd · 30/11/2019 22:50

Corbyn is not going to win. The best we can hope for is a hung parliament, in which case even if Corbyn is PM only the most moderate and watered down policies will be passed. Now imagine what Boris Johnson would do with five years in number ten and a 50 seat majority. Keep in mind he has expelled all the one nation moderate Tories and replaced them with hardliners.

AwdBovril · 30/11/2019 22:54

I can't vote Labour while they hold fast to their anti woman, anti semitic viewpoint. So, so disappointed in them. Even my DH, who comes from an area of the country where they all practically have "Labour" right through the middle like a stick of rock, is refusing to vote Labour this time.
