Diane Abbott taking a break from campaign

I am not surprised. Actually thought she looked close to a nervous breakdown on recent appearances.
She has been absolutely hounded and vilified since that LBC interview with the police funding and her own party have not done much to support her.
I feel sorry for her and hope the rest does her good

It's been horrible to watch. She is my local MP and as much as I want Labour to keep the seat, I feel almost irresponsible voting for her at the moment.

Although the state of her health is obviously her private business, I kind of wish I knew whether she unwell and likely to make a return to form, or whether she's just completely incompetent. It makes a big difference to how I'd vote. I currently feel as though I have to assume the latter.

I suspect the senior managers in the Labour party have her drugged in an office at HQ or doing maths revision with a primary teacher.

Given that Diane Abbot is also standing as an MP should Labour be a bit clearer about whether her ill health will affect her ability to represent her constituents?

Corbyn was interviewed about something else on BBC Breakfast this morning, and was asked about her. He confirmed she was withdrawing from campaigning in grounds of ill-health, but would not say more as there's to be a statement some time today (and that might answer some of the questions on this thread).

I've just had a sky news alert that she's been replaced (health reasons) as shadow home secretary by Lynn somebodyoranother.

But can't find any news stories yet. Just that one breaking news thing flashing up on the iPad.

Bit late! The damage is already done to the campaign. As much as I feel sorry for her being unwell, she should have took a big step back weeks ago (assuming her illness is the reason why she was so forgetful in the 'first' interview).

Maybe she knew but tried to carry on as she felt that was the responsible thing to do.

Maybe Jeremy Corbyn didn't want to make a full statement because he didn't have the whole picture yet and didn't want to speak out of turn.

I agree with Monkey. She may have had a diagnosis made which was unexpected and shocking. It's possible sometimes to attribute symptoms to stress or tiredness which can be far more serious. I don't know much about her but I feel very sorry for her being discussed like this.

She's nrunning for Head Of PTA in Little Winston's primary, she's running for an MP and she is/was shadow secretary. There are some standards, even for her.

The tone of most posts has been concern for her health, plus a wish that she's broken off earlier (when extent of illness was first known)
