Lifelong Labour supporters who feel we need a more robust leader than Corbyn, how are you voting?

I have always voted Labour. I am a socialist. I loathe everything thé Tories have done to the disabled, to schools, their priorities are not mine. But I also feel strongly that Corbyn is incompetent. Thinking of voting Lib Dem with a heavy heart.
Any advice?

That's just my point! OP asked for opinions, this is what I think, if you don't agree that's obviously fine (of course, random Internet stranger...) and I do recognise why people feel like that about Corbyn.

Anything but the Tories... Tbh. In my opinion Wink

SheilaHammond · 04/05/2017 21:54

I left the Labour Party after 20 years because of Blair and Iraq. I joined the Greens. I voted Green today, but will vote LIbDem in the GE as they are the only chance of ousting the Tory here. Though I despise them for their coalition with the Tories previously.

gameofchance · 04/05/2017 21:57

I probably will vote labour but only because I respect my local labour MP. I think Corbyn is a dreadful leader and I haven't forgiven him for his lack of support for the remain campaign. Re voting for policies - yes in theory this is good, BUT what if the leader can't hold the party together, implement said policies.

soapboxqueen · 04/05/2017 22:05

I'm in a labour safe seat but with a strong tory vote. So my options are really tory or labour. I've always voted labour, became a member, left over Corbyn and joined the lib dems. There's no point in voting lib dem here. The best I can achieve is a not tory vote but I loath to be supporting Corbyn.

Yes I am fully aware that we 'vote for the party' and 'this isn't a presidential vote' but since I can't vote for a party without also voting for a leader, it is a bit of a moot point.

BelleTheSheepdog · 04/05/2017 22:59

SheRah:But you talked down to people like me!

I give up..

BelleTheSheepdog · 04/05/2017 23:02

Also I don't follow the mainstream commentary on Corbyn McDonnell and the rest.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 04/05/2017 23:13

I was just saying what I think!

Really fucked off with the labour voters, the ones that have voted labour forever, that now won't vote for Corbyn. would you rather have Tory? The Lib Dems sided with the Tories last time, and if we're taking a kit leaders.. Tim Who?

Yes, I get the EU issue (I really do), but this election needs to be about the more than the EU. NHS, Education, welfare, .. And not voting the fucking Tories in again by splitting the vote

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 04/05/2017 23:16

*talking about leaders

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/05/2017 23:19

Really fucked off with the labour voters, the ones that have voted labour forever, that now won't vote for Corbyn.

Be fucked off all you like. Me and many others are fucked off that Labour is about to be decimated as a party by him and his team.

BelleTheSheepdog · 04/05/2017 23:28

By all means say what you think.

But when you go on the attack, albeit via a cut and paste argument, it is likely to provoke an answer back in kind.

I won't be giving my vote to aid a government run by Corbyn, McDonnell and Seamus Milne. They are dangerous in my opinion and expect fools to keep voting for the red rosette.

It would be more useful imo to turn your anger on them.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 04/05/2017 23:32

Voted LibDem in our mayoral election.

I cannot in all good conscience vote for Labour under Corbyn. I feel that has become a cesspit of racism and, given the current leadership's anti-EU position, it may as well be UKIP.

SashaSashays · 04/05/2017 23:35

Jeremy Corbyn is a reflection of the party and its values though. This crap about him not appearing in the tv debates without Theresa May, does he not want the votes?! If he cares about the disenfranchised and those not engaged in the elitist politics of the tories why is he passing up on the most accessible platform to win votes?

I'm probably going to vote Green, from what I've read they seem to have the most similar values. I will never vote for the Lib Dems, I think we all feel for that shit once before and should learn our lesson.

Beelzebop · 05/05/2017 01:21

I voted Conservative today. I can't do that in the GE. I am tormented.

rosesandcashmere · 05/05/2017 01:26

All of you 'spoiling papers' why bother? No one cares. You clearly don't understand how it works, just don't go. Even better actually vote. Biscuit

tobee · 05/05/2017 01:33

I absolutely loathe Corbyn and his shower of shite shadow team but...but...but I can't imagine not voting Labour. And I have to vote. I don't like the lib dems much either.

Just to cheer everyone up talking to a relative who's worked in the world of politics, journalism and is a lefty for many years believes Corbyn still won't reason even if decimated at the GE. Momentum and the like have invaded Labour at the core and as McCluskey has been re elected I don't hold out much hope for the future. If he stays surely there will be a split?

tobee · 05/05/2017 01:33

Resign not reason. Although he lacks reason too.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/05/2017 01:56

Labour has lost control of Merthyr Tydfil and Blaenau Gwent in Wales.

Let that sink in....

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/05/2017 01:57
  • Labour fears they have...
PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/05/2017 02:28

As of this time. Tories have gained 64 seats. Labour have lost 39!

Tartyflette · 05/05/2017 02:46

Voted Labour today (DH was standing for district council but hasn't a hope in hell, they'd vote for a monkey round here as long as it wore a blue rosette) and will vote Labour again, albeit with a heavy heart, in the GE.
As PPs have said, I'm voting for the manifesto.
DH Is just back from the count, but I'm not rushing downstairs to get the bad news. Sad

DontMentionTheWar · 05/05/2017 03:37

Lifelong Labour voter here. Voted Labour in the locals as our local councillor is lovely and anti-Brexit. However, I'll be voting Lib Dem for the first time in the general election. Labour are about to be crushed anyway and to get rid of Corbyn the crushing has to be brutal. I can't forgive him for rolling over in the face of Brexit & being an utter shambles in every other way. The Lib Dems have come out against Brexit and I respect them for taking the flak for that. Hoping to see Labour put itself back together under a decent leader in time for the next election, by which time the Brexit shitstorm will hopefully have concentrated a lot of people's minds and got them to see how badly they were misled.

LesLiaisonsDangereuses · 05/05/2017 07:21

Feel so depressed. We are moving in to an era of conservatism which looks like it is going to last a long time.

OP posts:
soapboxqueen · 05/05/2017 07:52

I really don't think Corbyn will resign either. Even if labour are crushed (as is looking increasingly likely). I think he truely, truely believes that if the party has spoken nobody, not even himself, can question it. Like divine mandate. Something has to give. I just don't know what it's going to be.

Will tory gains in local and Mayoral elections galvanise the anti-tory vote or is it simply the starting pistol for the likely result in the GE?

Lalsy · 05/05/2017 07:54

Labour. I want Corbyn out but think he may not go - indeed am worried that a low Labour vote may mean a further drift left - unban the SWP or whatever. My local MP is pro-Europe Brownite so I don't think he will be misinterpreting my vote. What a shower.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/05/2017 07:54

As PPs have said, I'm voting for the manifesto.

Then you can't know how you will vote then as no manifestos have been released yet :)
