Why would you vote Conservative

BigGrannyPants · 19/04/2017 18:42

Just that really, I am utterly bemused why anyone would vote conservative knowing the lies they've told, the lives they've ruined and the fact they are only interested in looking after their rich friends. I appreciate the choice of parties aren't great, but surely Tories need to be at the bottom of the list? If you are planning to vote Conservative please enlighten me! This thread isn't intended to bash anyone so if you could try and avoid that if possible!

what about the people who have been treated terribly and are in their knees because of a Tory government?

Exactly.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 13:10

Spoiling your paper is a valid choice. You are counted in the turnout. In the event of a close result, your paper will be scrutinised.

I would like ballot papers to have either a 'None of the above' or an 'anti vote'

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/04/2017 13:11

BigGrannyPants
Why spoil the ballot paper?

Because I am not apathetic about politics and I would like to have a say.

My say just happens to be that they are all a bunch a lying selfserving shitbags, that are only in it for themselves.

And I can't see anytime when they will put that or NOTA on a ballot.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 20/04/2017 13:13

saucery

LDs led by a fundamental Christian - bye bye rights of women over their own bodies!

Could you possibly explain what you mean by 'fundamental christian'

Thanks

EdgeofInsane · 20/04/2017 13:14

I live in a very safe Tory seat.

I actually quite like our MP, he seems okay and willing to engage with the community. He was also a remainer.

I don't want to vote for him because I don't want to vote for May's government but options are limited. Labour are a shambles and I really dislike my local Lib Dem MP. She said something quite outgrageous to me in writing prior to the last election in response to an enquiry I sent.

People will vote Tory as quite frankly what options are there? They are all bad choices.

For me personally I am considering not voting for the first time.

squishysquirmy · 20/04/2017 13:17

That sounds tricky, Edge. Sad

squishysquirmy · 20/04/2017 13:18

I also agree that spoiling a ballot is much better than not voting at all - a huge number of spoiled ballots would at least let them know that people are pissed off rather than apathetic.

BigGrannyPants · 20/04/2017 13:25

I never really thought of it that way, I do like the idea of a none of the above. I agree that it should be an option to say you want to vote but don't want to vote for any of the candidates on the paper

@ShotsFired yea I must have typed what I was thinking rather than what I wanted to say! My inferences are about the Tory party and not the voters. This post was because I genuinely want to understand but you seem to have taken it really personally. I've made it clear throughout this is not an attack on any individual but rather wanting to understand people who's opinions are different from mine. It's very easy to become insular and only talk to people who have my own view point, so I was widening my horizons. I do not think anyone is lesser than me or anything like that. This comes from a need to know more.

Because I'm a CLINT!
I would only vote Conservative if the BNP were likely to win.

ShotsFired · 20/04/2017 13:45

@BigGrannyPants It's all good, nothing taken personally, friends again? Flowers Grin

Badders123 · 20/04/2017 13:56

I will never EVER vote Tory
I've always voted labour and cannot do so now
So, Lib dem it is

RortyCrankle · 20/04/2017 15:47

Because Tory are the only party capable of governing. Look at the alternatives:

Labour - economically illiterate, a fractured party, cast into the wilderness by an ineffective, unelectable leader.

LibDem - led by dim Tim who could bore for England, a party obsessed with one policy which is doomed to failure.

SNP - Sturgeon is another one policy obsessive who may lose a few seats to Scottish Conservatives, with any luck.

Green Party - bonkers policies.

misspriggy · 20/04/2017 15:50

i'll vote Conservative, begrudgingly because I want the hardest possible Brexit. At the next election, 2021 or whenever, I'll be back to UKIP.

roarityroar · 20/04/2017 15:53

Because I believe I already pay too much tax and think Lab/Lib would raise it.

Because I'm pro Brexit

Because I think the state wastes money and the NHS needs serious reform

Because I trust them the most with the economy

squishysquirmy · 20/04/2017 15:56

2022 misspriggy.
You just add 5 to 2017.
hth

squishysquirmy · 20/04/2017 15:59

And "the hardest possible Brexit" would be leaving with no deals agreed on either trade or borders. Shit for everyone.

CelticPromise · 20/04/2017 16:01

If you are concerned about the myth that Labour somehow bankrupted the country, or debt is higher now (a lot higher) than it was when the Tories took over. And put public services are on their knees.

Those who wouldn't vote Labour because of Blair /Brown, I am mystified why you wouldn't now? The party leadership is a fair way from them now!

CelticPromise · 20/04/2017 16:03

Red Tories is an argument against Labour I could have understood in the past but not now. Labour are clearly anti austerity and a long long way from the Tories.

rosie1959 · 20/04/2017 16:04

Obviously quite a few people vote tory or they wouldn't be in power
Amazing how on MN all conservative voters are described as evil self seeking not caring about the poor and disabled ?
Is this really acceptable how about if Labour voters were all cast as tracksuit wearing people living in council houses claiming benefits
I suspect the election will be a conservative landside so are all these people wicked
I have always voted conservative and don't intend on changing my mind
Jeremy Corbyn very nice man I am sure but wouldn't want him leading the Brexit negotiations
As for the Lib dems thought they got wiped out 2 years ago can they suddenly be marvelous And yes I voted to remain

squishysquirmy · 20/04/2017 16:05

Agree celtic - if someone was put off Labour because they were too similar to the Tories, why the hell would they vote for the Tories instead? The mind boggles.

squishysquirmy · 20/04/2017 16:06

"Amazing how on MN all conservative voters are described as evil self seeking not caring about the poor and disabled ?"

How many have actually said that? Have you read the thread?

misspriggy · 20/04/2017 16:06

By Jove your right squishy!! I'm mad me...

ShotsFired · 20/04/2017 16:07

@rosie1959 I suspect the election will be a conservative landside

Given that we ended up with Brexit and Trump on those other predicted "landslide" votes, I'm terrified it won't be! Shock

Deadsouls · 20/04/2017 16:07

This election is depressing, or rather I feel it is depressing. It's a completely cynical grab for power by May. It's not for the good of the people, whatever the fuck that means. It's to consolidate power. At least May could be honest about it. It's so transparent, no matter what BS comes out of her mouth.
