Why would you vote Conservative

BigGrannyPants · 19/04/2017 18:42

Just that really, I am utterly bemused why anyone would vote conservative knowing the lies they've told, the lives they've ruined and the fact they are only interested in looking after their rich friends. I appreciate the choice of parties aren't great, but surely Tories need to be at the bottom of the list? If you are planning to vote Conservative please enlighten me! This thread isn't intended to bash anyone so if you could try and avoid that if possible!

It really has gone way past the point of affordability without raising taxes to a point that no one will vote for, more accurately then :)

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2017 17:35

I notice that misspriggy didn't ask how the Tories were destroying the education system - I guess she already knows.

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 20/04/2017 17:36

I'm not sure what you mean 'from' Brexit, to be honest. But anyway, we could cut money from education, roads, crime - everywhere - and pour it into the NHS. It still wouldn't come close.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 17:36

If you spend all your money on silly things and don't have enough for rent does that mean your rent is unaffordable?

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 17:38

*silly things being referenda, HS2, bombs etc. Thread moved a bit there!

noblegiraffe · 20/04/2017 17:38

If we keep our passports purple, that's half a billion saved straight away.

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 20/04/2017 17:40

If we take that and look at it two different ways.

Income - £1500. Rent is £1000. Essential bills and food and so on come to £500. That's all fine and good.

But if your income is still £1500 but your rent is £2000 then it doesn't matter if you spend the money on silly stuff as the rent is still unaffordable.

I imagine your stance is more the former while mine is the latter.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 17:45

Mine is the former, yes. But throw in hiring an interior decorator to your before rent costs.

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 20/04/2017 17:49

:)

fakenamefornow · 20/04/2017 18:22

What is your solution Pink could it be private insurance by chance?

But if your income is still £1500 but your rent is £2000 then it doesn't matter if you spend the money on silly stuff as the rent is still unaffordable.

In this case healthcare is unaffordable full stop. Is that what you're saying? If you think people have money to pay insurance or more charges, then surely people (or companies) have money to pay more tax towards the NHS?

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 20/04/2017 18:24

Blimey fake I don't have a solution :) that's why I'm not in politics! But I do have a DH who works for the NHS and has grave concerns about its future. I guess the question is, can it carry on? I hope so, I really do.

Tobolsk · 20/04/2017 18:51

My DS works for the NHS, she also has concerns. She doesn't expect the NHS to exist in its current form beyond 2030.

She explained that A&E/Ambulance/GP services are likely to remain NHS. With the rest being private.

Coppersulphate · 20/04/2017 19:18

I will be voting Tory. I like Theresa May and I like her policies on the economy. And I think she will get the best deal on Brexit and immigration control.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 19:19

How will she get the best deal?

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/04/2017 19:26

ExplodedCloud

Out of all the others, I think that Coppersulphate makes a valid point, neither corbyn or farron have shown themselves particulaly capable.

Its what makes the GE so well timed (from a political point of view), this isn't just about who runs the country, NHS, or education, it is also about brexit.

IMO the idea of TM is to try and split the voters even further. Will people vote along the lines of political belief, about brexit, or tactically.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 19:32

No I'm genuinely trying to get someone to explain the answer, I really am! It isn't going to be her doing the negotiating, is it? It'll be civil servants presumably. And the EU will do what the EU wants. I don't understand how the PM here makes the slightest difference.

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/04/2017 19:42

but she will be the one that sets out what they are trying to get.
But I suspect that getting 27 different countries to agree to anything will be the hardest part.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 19:47

She could set out anything though. Free access to markets plus free jam for everyone. We'll still end up with what's negotiated.

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/04/2017 19:51

and we could end up with a tricycle and a set of deely boppers.

or three magic beans.

AdviceNeededPlease2 · 20/04/2017 19:54

How will Theresa May be destroying the poor? Genuine question.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 19:55

Yes we could. Because it will be the same people sitting round the table. Cameron didn't end up with his concessions. Why will we get a deal now?

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/04/2017 19:57

because the EU is able to lose in this deal as well.

Its not like we are coming to the table empty handed, and anyone that believes that industry won't be whispering in people ears etc.

ExplodedCloud · 20/04/2017 20:02

But they'll whisper in ears anyway. I just don't think she has any power or ability to deliver anything she promises. The deals will likely come out the same. Maybe a few details around the edges will vary.
I just see people saying this with confidence and it is based on nothing.

LtGreggs · 20/04/2017 20:04

I'm in Scotland. In the last Scottish Parliament elections I voted Tory - first time I've ever done so. I think Scottish independence is bad idea, I think another referendum on independence is a very bad idea, and I don't think the SNP are following through with any other policies that are doing much good either. So no SNP vote. Labour leadership is a joke and party has moved far too the left in last few yrs - becoming too left-wing for me. And crucially they have been a bit wishy washy on the union. That's why I voted Tory, and that's why I will consider doing so again. I'll also consider Lib Dem.

Hope that helps.

backaftera2yearbreak · 20/04/2017 20:09

Can't vote Tory. Couldn't live with myself. Labour are finished in Scotland. SNP too big for their boots but I support independence especially since it looks like we are headed for a Tory landslide. Who's left...lib dems or green?
