'You do sound oh so slightly unbalanced when you say things like "Trump is Machiavelli times 100"'

It is a joke. Trump is smart, but Machiavelli was smarter.

OP posts:
claig · 05/12/2016 22:59

A lot of pundits and people quite scandalously say that Trump is not smart at all, and that he is thick as two short planks. That is why it is a joke to say he is Machiavelli x 100.

When Trump fans watched a Trump debate, it was not a pleasant experience because they had their hearts in their mouths, their blood pressure went through the roof and their fingers and toes were all tightly crossed throughout, because Trump didn't do it the conventional way by mastering policy detail, but he somehow managed to pull through everytime, but sometimes he was walking a tightrope. Thankfully he made it, so that Trump fans don't have to go through all that again until 4 years' time.

Trump already knows all about climate change. He cited it in his application for a sea wall at his golf course in Ireland. The denial stance is all for votes and personal profit.

claig · 05/12/2016 23:09

'He cited it in his application for a sea wall at his golf course in Ireland'

I think Trump would cite anything to get a seawall. I doubt he believes in climate change and by saying he didn't he went against the entire elite and all of the world's political class and the BBC and all of them, so why do that if you believe in it?

He could have had a much easier time doing what the entire political class do, saying he believed in it.

OP posts:
Ontopofthesunset · 05/12/2016 23:18

He said he didn't believe in it because he likes spreading disinformation and making jokes. You remember all the jokes you've told us he makes which make some people think he is lying, but in fact he is just having a laugh. He is just having a laugh over his disbelief in global warming. When I was younger the expression for this kind of behaviour used to be "shit stirring." He just throws lots of stuff out there and sees what gets the cheers.

claig · 05/12/2016 23:24

'He just throws lots of stuff out there and sees what gets the cheers.'

He does do a bit of that. He was a very quick learner and he listened and learned from teh people. He would throw out ideas at rallies and see which ones worked. So he didn't like "Drain the Swamp" but when he saw teh mazing reaction it had among Trump fans, he started to use it.

But Trump was not stupid and did want to win the election. He had teh entire Republican Establishment and teh entire world political class against him due to his Russia policy, Syria policy, global warming, free trade, Bush and 911 comments etc. That didn't help him because the media would have gone easier on him if he toed the line the Establishment candidates have to toe. I think he was serious about those things, but maybe I am wrong, we will have to wait and see.

claig · 05/12/2016 23:26

Trump even said NATO was obsolete. That caused panic and set lots of the Establishment against him. He could have just not said that and had an easier time of it. There were no votes in saying that.

I think there are 7 people announced today on Time Magazine's Person of the Year list, and amazingly enough Nigel Farage is on the list of seven.

There were rumours that Chelsea Clinton had interceded with her friend, Ivanka

Hardly.
They are not friends. It was just Ivanka pushing it on.

You should really check your sources.
It's 11 finalists.
And I'm for the

CRISPR Scientists

These scientists have developed a groundbreaking new technology that can edit DNA, a technique that has the potential to transform science and the human experience, as it could be used to find and remove mutations responsible for incurable diseases.

Or for really fighting the establishment:

The Flint Whistleblowers

Local residents, along with civil-engineering professor Marc Edwards and local pediatrician Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, blew the whistle on the lead-poisoned water in Flint, Mich., drawing national attention to an environmental crisis that still has yet to be fully resolved.

Reading the papers this morning I realise that I owe Misss an apology.
Quite right that Trump isn't President yet.
He's not even President Elect yet. The electoral college vote is only on the 19th.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/dec/05/faithless-electors-republican-electoral-college-trump
First Republican 'faithless elector' announces intent to vote against Trump,

I wonder if the Republican establishment is planning on stitching up Trump.

(More seriously, probably not, at it could lead to civil unrest - but it would clearly show the undemocratic nature of the electoral college)

BertrandRussell · 06/12/2016 08:36

Was he joking when he said he wanted to restrict access to abortion?

claig · 06/12/2016 08:53

RTFTs. That has been covered lots of times already. Scalia who died was pro life. Trump has said he wants to replace Scalia with another pro life judge, so the makeup of the Supreme Court will not change.

Trump has said specifically that he wants to restrict abortion rights.

Prognositicatory prediction of events based on the phenomenological underlying parameters at play in politics and refutation of the spin inherent in the likes of servants like Blair and the teams. Basically, a Trump fan analysis.

If you are referring to the quotes of Blair speeches and what Cameron came out with during the EU Referendum, I would wholeheartedly concur.

Now c'mon claig how many times have you linked to that youtube clip with the rallying cry? How many times have you repeated yourself. I use this thread and your posts as a sort of comfort blanket to ease me into sleep at night because reading your posts are sometimes like a child having the same bedtime story every night.

I don't think that Trump is that scientifically literate but this is a wider symptom in that most politicians do not have a high level of scientific education. There is the civil service in the UK but if you do not have a good grounding in science it will impair your ability to make decisions based on scientific fact when presented with the evidence.
