The last one filled up quickly.

More discussion on the significance of Trump, Trumpism and the Trumpsters and what it all means for Blairites.

'I am perplexed about ex-GSachs guy being appointed but will hv to read up on Mnuchin.'

Mnuchin was head of the Finance Committe for Trump's campaign, he was getting funds from donors etc by using contacts etc Trump has known him for a long time, therefore Trump fans assume he is a very good man. It was no use appointing Ed Balls (a PPE) for the post, Trump needed someone who knows what they are doing.

It's not so much "drain the swamp" as "promote the swamp".

Alyosha · 30/11/2016 16:50

Squishy - exactly! The swamp has been given its chance to take over by the man of middling intelligence, Trump.

Lweji · 30/11/2016 16:52

He has not yet provided any details on how this will be done however, and claims he doesn't have to.

I was reading about it today and it seems the Constitution says he can't receive any payments whatsoever from foreign governments (and others). So, if his assets are not completely blind to him, even a foreign dignitary staying at one of his hotels would constitute payment and against the Constitution. I imagine that even as a blind trust, if something clearly belongs to Trump, then it could be considered payment.

claig · 30/11/2016 16:52

Trump can't just promote any Joe off the street to run a Department or there would be utter chaos in government like under Blair. This is not New Labour and amateur hour, It's Trump 2016.

OP posts:
squishysquirmy · 30/11/2016 16:52

Alyosha, sorry my comment at 16:44 was a bit ambiguous but it was in response to your comment about blind trusts not Mnuchin, sorry this thread keeps moving so fast I keep cross posting! I am in no way relieved by Mnuchins appointment, but not surprised either.

Alyosha · 30/11/2016 16:53

Who did Blair promote off the street?

I thought Goldman Sachs were the devil or something, now it's OK they're running the finance department?!

Not exactly striking fear into the hearts of the elite is it...

Like Trump gives a toss about the constitution. He wants to tear up the 1st ammendment and have UK style libel laws so he can stop people mocking his tiny, tiny hands.

Lweji · 30/11/2016 16:54

Mnuchin was head of the Finance Committe for Trump's campaign, he was getting funds from donors etc by using contacts etc Trump has known him for a long time, therefore Trump fans assume he is a very good man.

More fools they are, then.
Could those contacts be in finance? As in the Establishment and the elites?

Alyosha · 30/11/2016 16:54

Sorry squishy!

Yes I can see that too, I hope that I am proven wrong and he actually does do a truly blind trust...would be a good sign.

squishysquirmy · 30/11/2016 16:55

Lweji, that's interesting thanks.

"Trump can't just promote any Joe off the street to run a Department"
-No, but he doesn't put much value on relevant experience does he? The main qualification for Trump's cabinet seems to be being a member of the super rich....

Southallgirl · 30/11/2016 16:57

Claig - Yes just reading up on Mnuchin ....... OK got it. He's now a bankroller for Hollywood film, lot of experience and contacts in corporate finance, which every govt needs.

Lweji · 30/11/2016 16:57

Trump can't just promote any Joe off the street to run a Department or there would be utter chaos in government like under Blair. This is not New Labour and amateur hour, It's Trump 2016.

I thought it was exactly amateur hour.
Not the usual suspects. Not the crooked career politicians. Not the swamp creatures. Not thr elites. Not the establishment. Power the the common people.

Yet...

This whole debacle would be fun, if it wasn't tragic.

Kaija · 30/11/2016 16:58

It's looking like a kind of four legs good two legs better situation we've got here with trump and the elites.

But don't worry Trumpers, I'm sure all your wishes will be granted in the end. As long as you're part of the 1%.

claig · 30/11/2016 16:59

'Could those contacts be in finance? As in the Establishment and the elites?'

I should hope so. Trump needs people who know what they are doing. Not everyone in the elites is no good, some of them are alright. Rest assured, Trump will have them all on a tight leash. He is not a "career politician".

OP posts:
Alyosha · 30/11/2016 17:02

Unlike Farage and Le Pen, of course, who are career politicians.

Are they still good? Hard to keep up.

Meanwhile Trump is lining his pocked deeply and richly and giving himself a tax cut, giving his friends in the banks money by deregulating them.

Nice of him to help out the elite when they apparently despite him.

Kaija · 30/11/2016 17:02

". Not everyone in the elites is no good,"

I think I just heard the sound of a floating signifier floating away up its own fundament.

squishysquirmy · 30/11/2016 17:03

"It's looking like a kind of four legs good two legs better situation we've got here with trump and the elites"

Yes and the narrative is changing so fast, we've already gone from "people against the evil elites but Trump isn't elite" to "some of those elites are alright actually"

squishysquirmy · 30/11/2016 17:04

I think I just heard the sound of a floating signifier floating away up its own fundament.
Grin Grin Grin

claig · 30/11/2016 17:04

'I think I just heard the sound of a floating signifier floating away up its own fundament.'

I would get you hearing check out, pronto

OP posts:
Kaija · 30/11/2016 17:05

Nothing wrong with my hearing, Claig.

Lweji · 30/11/2016 17:05

Not everyone in the elites is no good, some of them are alright
How many would you say?
And how to tell them apart?

Say: worries about climate change - bad; says climate change is a hoax - good?
I.e., those who agree with you - good; if they disagree - bad?

claig · 30/11/2016 17:09

'And how to tell them apart? '

If Trump selects them, by definition they are the "good 'uns"

'Say: worries about climate change - bad; says climate change is a hoax - good?'

For me, that means they should be hired immediately, but unfortunately, I'm not in charge.

Trump (Part 3)
squishysquirmy · 30/11/2016 17:12

Claig, as I asked earlier what if you and Trump are wrong about climate change? Do you think that's even possible?

claig · 30/11/2016 17:14

'Do you think that's even possible?'

Totally impossible. No chance of it. Club of Rome, usual game, always the same.
