Oct 20th 2 am UK time.

Last chance for the Establishment to stop the Trump surge in the polls.
World leaders will be watching, Establishments will be tuning in on the edge of their seats in trepidation.

People will be laughing, diving into the popcorn and knocking back the alcohol.

Round 3. Rock'n'roll.

Piety, self glorification and and self righteousness here astounding

'Am in despair and wish everyone would think like me so we can save the world'

Really?

Lweji · 21/10/2016 10:17

What are you going on about?

Some people sound like Trump more and more.

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 10:21

I was just paraphrasing icebeingSmile as you know

Kaija · 21/10/2016 10:28

Pin-up for you:

Trump vs Clinton Round 3. Probably the biggest debate ever.
WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 10:37

Pathetic

Ran out of anything to say I guess

Kaija · 21/10/2016 10:43

You don't like it? All that talk of people having poles up their butts from you made me think you might like a little light relief.

Kaija · 21/10/2016 10:43

It is rather horrifyingly brilliant though. Not sure who the artist is.

fourmummy · 21/10/2016 11:07

It all boils down to this: ordinary people don't want to be scientists, economists, mathematicians or politicians. Sheesh (as my ds would say). What they do want to know is that the processes underpinning the knowledge and actions that these bring are sound. That's it. That's what it's all about (which brings us back to Trump and Clinton).

Like the sculpture Grin

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 11:15

it's pathetic -

a handbrake turn from the wholly pompous to the childishly abusive is not light relief - it's just pathetic

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 11:17

ordinary people don't want to be scientists, economists, mathematicians or politicians.

I'm not buying that

I think i understand what you're trying to say but I'm not buying that

I agree 100 % with this ..know that the processes underpinning the knowledge and actions that these bring are sound.

Lweji · 21/10/2016 11:35

For some light relief:

Lweji · 21/10/2016 11:36

What they do want to know is that the processes underpinning the knowledge and actions that these bring are sound.

It's fine if you are ready to listen, but apparently not, from this thread.

Lweji · 21/10/2016 11:39

ordinary people don't want to be scientists, economists, mathematicians or politicians

Yes, WW, you're right not to be sure about that.
Scientists, economists, mathematicians and politicians ARE ordinary people. Nothing extraordinary about them/us. What some of us have is expertise in some areas.
It is rather annoying and sad when people without that expertise decide their opinion counts more.

fourmummy · 21/10/2016 11:40

Final word (got science to be getting on with): I love science and it's the best explanatory system that we have - but can anyone explain why they vociferously reject homeopathy or 'anti climate change' scientists but allow religion to co-exist alongside science? How is religion different to homeopathy? I'll check in later for answers Grin (could it be....politics? wealth? power? privilege?).

WinchesterWoman · 21/10/2016 11:47

I'm right about a whole lot of stuff Grin

in my humble

four mummy that's a very philosophical question !

Lweji · 21/10/2016 11:51

How is religion different to homeopathy?

It's not common that scientists are also religious, at least not in the sense of blind faith to miracles, etc.

The main problem with homeopathy is that it's sold as scientific, when it's not.

Religion is also fine (in the realm of opinion) when it's not sold as scientific; say, as creationism, which is not scientific.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/10/2016 13:25

The gala dinner speeches were Shock

Lweji · 21/10/2016 13:42

Yes. Fairly nasty.
Particularly Trump's.
Maybe he thought he'd get the same response as at his rallies.

Kaija · 21/10/2016 14:06

"it's pathetic -

a handbrake turn from the wholly pompous to the childishly abusive is not light relief - it's just pathetic"

Abusive? Abusive to whom? To Trump maybe... Except that as a representation of him it's about 1% as offensive as his actual words.

Want2bSupermum · 21/10/2016 15:05

That gala dinner is held every year and during election year they do the same thing. It isn't anything new except HC and Trump are more comfortable tearing strips off each other.

My issue continues to be media bias. The news about HC is hidden at the bottom of articles. Damning evidence of issues with the Clinton foundation. Quite frankly I am shocked he hasn't gone after her earlier on that point.

Overall during the nomination process Trump said he was a quick learner. I am not seeing someone who is learning and is up to speed, ready to take over as President.

Want2bSupermum · 21/10/2016 15:06

HC isn't qualified to run either. Remember we had an MP who accepted cash for questions? That is exactly what HC has been doing as Secretary of State. She should be in jail.

ZuleikaDobson · 21/10/2016 15:52

One of the things that makes me angriest about Trump is actually the fact that he has prevented the Republicans from putting up a more credible candidate to run against Clinton.

ZuleikaDobson · 21/10/2016 15:53

There are hundreds of reputed academic statisticians with contrary views

Fourmummy: names? Links?

MedSchoolRat · 21/10/2016 16:17

How is religion different to homeopathy?

I suppose bottom line is that faith helps some people feel better - the folk who have faith. It improves their mental well-being. And we know that patients with better mental well-being do better in dealing with illness. So in a way, we know that faith really works... that is, if you already have faith or want to have it. If you don't want faith or have it already, then being prayed for etc. is ineffective.

Whereas the evidence for homeopathy is totally crap. Grin
