Oct 20th 2 am UK time.

Last chance for the Establishment to stop the Trump surge in the polls.
World leaders will be watching, Establishments will be tuning in on the edge of their seats in trepidation.

People will be laughing, diving into the popcorn and knocking back the alcohol.

Round 3. Rock'n'roll.

I'm done repeating myself.

claig · 19/10/2016 07:59

'I read somewhere that Trump supporters, not being your regular Republicans, are more likely to not bother to vote down-ticket - they'll vote for Trump, and leave it at that. It's possible, I guess.'

Yes, that is right. They are in fact the majority of Republicans, just not Establishment supporting Republicans, and they are angry with the Republican Establishment and some of the Republican candidates who are not giving full support to the candidate that they chose, Trump. So a lot of them may not turn out for these Establishment candidates and RINOs.

'All candidates dealt with hecklers and protesters. Only one got real trouble at his rallies.'

Hav you ever wondered why Trump is no longer interrupted by hecklers at his rallies that he does 3 times daily in front of tens of thousands of people? It is because the whizzkids have called off that tactic. It was done deliberately in order to embarrass Trump and help the Republican Establishment candidates in key Primary elections so that the media could concertedly attack Trump.

Now the whizzkids have dropped it, in exactly the same way that you never hear about Occupy Wall Street any more, because that was a whizzkid tactic to help Obama get elected, and in the same way you won't hear about Black Lives Matter after the election because that is used to help Hillary get elected.

That's no way to post, Lweji... don't you know Repetition is the new Reasoning?

"Whizzkids"

Kaija · 19/10/2016 08:50

This is very good on Trump and the effects of post-factual politics on democracy.

"At times Trump has mused that “real” unemployment is as high as 42 percent , a comically hyperbolic figure. Such comments are part of his broader narrative of numerical nihilism, a political strategy of discrediting any statistic or fact that could obstruct his path to the presidency.
Faced with poll data showing that the Republican nominee is losing ground, for example, Trump and his supportersclaim that the surveys are skewed, that the reported results are just pro-Hillary Clinton propaganda, that rally crowd size is a much better predictor of an Election Day victory, la la la I can’t hear you."

No, even the hecklers got bored with listening him

Will Self has had a privileged education. Jewish on his mother’s side, he attended UC School in Hampstead (an independent) and then went on to Oxford. His father was a prof at LSE. As Claig rightly suggests, Self is one of the metro elite. He has a snarling distaste for the ordinary man who may not be as articulate as himself, but who is just as alert to political shenanigans.

His background reminds me very much of Ed Miliband’s, i.e. North London, LSE, Oxbridge.

He sounds like a regressive leftie to me, who has an inherent hesitation to challenge bigotry when it occurs amongst those he supports as well as in some minority communities, all for the sake of political correctness. I’ve watched that Brexit vid with Dreda Mitchell, and Self is an arrogant tosser. I’ve met loads of them. Love the first comment under the vid: "Damit what went wrong? When we gave the poor the vote they weren't supposed to be able to change anything!!!!!"

fourmummy · 19/10/2016 08:57

I don't understand why people are so scornful of elites. I disagree with Claig on some things (Corbyn, Obama - you said in one of your posts that he has been a good President, and now Will Self) but there have always been and always will be elites, whatever form of government or economic system we observe. The difference is in degree. It's a sliding scale ranging from 'these elite people are ok' to 'these elite people are horrific to'. I'm not sure that this is controversial. This election is about that. (Elites can be defined as people who, by virtue of a mechanism such as wealth, talent, heritage or whatever make decisions).

I know Claig's "whizzkids". They are actually a thing.

That should have said, "They are actually 'a thing' " (they do exist, are alive, and function only too well).

Kaija · 19/10/2016 09:07

Claude, you seem to be suggesting that Will Self's views should be discounted because he is Jewish and educated. Which tells us all we need to know.

WinchesterWoman · 19/10/2016 09:10

Hmm so you give up

WinchesterWoman · 19/10/2016 09:12

Jewish is nothing to do wit it. He's a patrician privileged snob

Kaija · 19/10/2016 09:18

And you are perfectly entitled to that opinion WinchesterWoman.

But Claude's dismissal mentioned his Jewishness and his education in the first sentence.

ClaudeBottom · 19/10/2016 09:30

Kaija you are deliberating trying to stir it. I am workingclass Jewish but not from a Marxist or Very Left background. Miliband and Self, I believe, belong not just to a talented bunch of people (elite) but to a political elite who think their way is the only way. Your inability to discuss by saying to me "tells us all we need to know" is puerile. That is something Self would say.

Kaija · 19/10/2016 09:33

So why mention his Jewishness in a post dismissing his ideas?

ClaudeBottom · 19/10/2016 09:37

And the reason why privileged people such as Self and Miliband (who seem to come from a similar North London pod) believe their way is the only way is not to do with a difference of opinion. It is their belief that the ordinary man in the street is too stupid to understand. Maybe some are, but what makes me feel ill are those politicians and their advisers who KNOW that a course of action will not benefit the citizens of this country, and is entirely the result of their ideology. They want to put in place an ideology that is contraindicated for the welfare of the population.

Kaija · 19/10/2016 09:39

"Maybe some are, but what makes me feel ill are those politicians and their advisers who KNOW that a course of action will not benefit the citizens of this country, and is entirely the result of their ideology. They want to put in place an ideology that is contraindicated for the welfare of the population."

I can certainly agree with you on this.

Lweji · 19/10/2016 09:50

Kaija, you stirrer. :)

Anyway, it seems that Stephen Colbert agrees that there is a widespread conspiracy against Trump.

fourmummy · 19/10/2016 09:57

It is their belief that the ordinary man in the street is too stupid to understand.

This is exactly right and describes perfectly the 'whizzkids' I know.

Kaija · 19/10/2016 10:14

Who are the "whizzkids" you know?

fourmummy · 19/10/2016 10:20

They are the people who did PPE and who are now in elite jobs, driving elite cars and living in elite abodes. They know each other (and Ed), and all hope to make a jump from their elite job to policy adviser (to Ed).

Kaija · 19/10/2016 10:31

So the elites are the people without power, who lost the election?
