What happens if Trump wins?

I know the comments Trump has made about blocking Muslims from the USA, and building a wall between the states and Mexico. But what will the world look like if he becomes president? People seem to be afraid of his success and suggest we 'should push the button now' or that he will be assassinated. Surely he comments are to stir up media interest?

A lot of coverage on Twitter about how Trump asked three times during a security briefing as to why nuclear weapons couldn't be used :(

He's terrifying and unstable, the American people need to put a stop to him or it'll be ww3 before the end of his term

Lweji · 04/08/2016 07:48

I can admit that a black person could hate Obama. But not on a vague soldiers are puppets basis.

PacificDogwod · 04/08/2016 07:49

Populism is making the people believe that they have a voice, it's pandering to the disenfranchised, the angry powerless and the ranter doon the pub - and then, once in power, doing whatever one jolly well pleases.

As Goodwin's Law has alread been invoked on this thread I won't bother pointing out the historical parallels.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/08/2016 08:10

And has Obama ever looked so deadly serious as when he said "Trump is not fit for office" ?

Because he really, really isn't. I mean half the Republican party are freaking out over this now.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 08:12

To be fair, he's hardly fit to run a business, considering his track record.
These days he seems to sell his brand name to whatever and con people out of their money.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 08:25

And he's kicking babies out too, in the most asshole way that he can. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/aug/02/trump-crying-baby-get-out-of-here

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/08/2016 09:00

Yeah, the kicking the baby thing out was weird. Because he started off saying he didn't mind the baby crying, he liked the baby. Then two mins later said "she thought I was serious that I liked a baby crying when I'm speaking". Nasty piece of work.

But then, the way he attacked the Khans was far worse - he's a belligerent man who just cannot leave it. Which means he should on no account be allowed to be president.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 04/08/2016 09:02

Actually I saw an excellent tweet last night.

Trump: "Obama was the worst president in history" (or whatever he said)

Reply: "Well you had a fight with a baby yesterday"

Lweji · 04/08/2016 09:16

And the Purple Heart that "he had always wanted". He's mocking the servicemen, while conveniently having escaped active duty. He's doing a great job of trying to alienate everyone.

StorminaBcup · 04/08/2016 09:23

My DH was in NYC in January and he was duscussing Trump with the guys in the office, he has a lot more support over there then you'd think.

I think he could win, he absolutely shouldn't but he's preying on the fears of middle america and they're lapping it up. I expect he'll do over there what Farage has done here; bail out once he realises he's bitten off more than he can chew.

StorminaBcup · 04/08/2016 09:24

*discussing!

Lweji · 04/08/2016 09:38

Although Trump has strong support in New York, the polls show it's pretty much a safe state for Clinton.
The key will be the swing states.
The winner takes all state delegates, so Trump support in New York is irrelevant, unless he could win there.

JudyCoolibar · 04/08/2016 09:43

Why would anyone hero worship someone who has fights with crying babies and the families of dead soldiers, and can't understand what the problem with using the nuclear option might be? Surely a point arises when any sane person thinks "There is no way this man should come anywhere near any seat of power, he is bloody dangerous"?

StorminaBcup · 04/08/2016 09:59

I didn't mean just NYC, the guys in his office are from all over. We were surprised that Trump's bid was really being taken so seriously by so many people.

TheDowagerCuntess · 04/08/2016 10:04

There are plenty of Republicans who are appalled by him.

Most democrats - women, African-Americans and other ethic minorities, especially - don't want a bar of him.

I just can't see him getting in, even if there are plenty of Republicans blind/vile enough to support him.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 10:04

Well, yes, he got the GOP nomination and there is a real danger of him being elected. It's clear he's got a strong support, even though he's nuts.

SwedishEdith · 04/08/2016 10:16

He's doing a great job of trying to alienate everyone

He doesn't want the job. He's doing a Farage - create a load of discontent and hate and then bugger off when it comes to the detail.

SwedishEdith · 04/08/2016 10:18

This is quite interesting.

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 10:20

Michael Moore explains how very easily Trump can win.

michaelmoore.com/trumpwillwin/

Edith, I think he actually DOES want the job. He just has no idea what the job involves. A rational Trump wouldn't want it but Trump is not rational. That's why he will not be standing down as candidate, whatever happens.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 10:30

Yes, he can win.
Polls have been up and down and he could be lucky enough to get through in one of those few times Clinton is down.
She will need to get clever and not let him get away with it in the run up to the election.
I wonder, though, if she's saving the coup de grace for the last few weeks/days. Elections are won on the day, not months in advance. Fingers crossed.

SwedishEdith · 04/08/2016 10:38

Agree three that he wants to win. That's what I mean, really. But the actual job will bore him.

StorminaBcup · 04/08/2016 11:44

elections are won on the day

I think the democrats (& probably most of the republicans) are hoping he will have hung himself by then. If the last couple of days are anything to go by any way! Give a man enough rope and all that.

onething · 04/08/2016 12:18

Sadly I think he'll win. And a lot of people will regret it. It's like Brexit all over again.

I just cannot fathom why people have joy in the idea - if they think that society is bad now just wait until the shit really hits the fan.

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 17:31

We agree, Edith!

Interesting article on that famous military support for Trump. In a notoriously Republican group of voters, he's trailing both McCain and Romney at this stage of the campaign.

www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-08-04/trump-veterans-in-jeopardy

538 polling has shown him plummeting in the last week. An interesting discussion on there about whether Trump's tactics worked so well in the party primaries but are now almost immediately disastrous for him in the full blown race where it's all got serious.

Big worries today for example at how much he can trusted with the intelligence briefing both candidates will get. He gave a speech about seeing footage of money arriving in Iran that was either completely fictitious or an account of classified material. Both are possible, but the latter option is scaring people.

PacificDogwod · 04/08/2016 17:52

That baby thing is just…. bizarre in the extreme Confused

"People don't understand" - what? What is it that people don't understand in the context of babies crying and bothering or not a speaker?? Truly, does he know what he means?

Interesting links, thanks.

Yes, I think he can win. And I think some people will think that they have then stuck it to Da Man or something, just before American society turns really really nasty Sad
