What happens if Trump wins?

I know the comments Trump has made about blocking Muslims from the USA, and building a wall between the states and Mexico. But what will the world look like if he becomes president? People seem to be afraid of his success and suggest we 'should push the button now' or that he will be assassinated. Surely he comments are to stir up media interest?

The Republican convention seems to have backfired on him.
He got a boost, but dipped immediately after.

www.nationalreview.com/corner/438612/donald-trump-republican-convention-was-failure

15% of people reported being less likely to vote for him. Unheard of.

But...

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 18:32

I think he stands the best chance of winning if there genuinely is something on Hillary bigger than the unsurprising news that the Democrats wanted her over Sanders. The email thing is still being examined but all evidence so far points to it being a big error of judgement rather than anything more sinister so, regardless of the spin the Trump campaign puts on it, the public have already heard it all and made up their minds, and polling already accounts for it.

But Trump also needs to shut up, and he just can't. The debates must be terrifying his team. He's already making noises that suggest he will try to get out of them, but that would be a disaster in itself. So he ideally needs a combination of Hillary disaster AND capitalising on it successfully AND staying out of trouble.

Hillary needs to stay on top of his mishaps, make the most of all of them, and debate the hell out of him. Presumably she knows if she has anything else to fear from leaks.

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 18:37

And National Review is a right wing (reputably so) site.

StorminaBcup · 04/08/2016 19:37

Latest. There's an option for the republicans to repudiate Trump.

helenatroy · 04/08/2016 19:48

I hope you're right.

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 20:03

The main issue in carrying the White House is the Supreme Court. There is the current nominee who is being effectively blocked by stalling, and three other judges (I think) over 80. Whoever wins this year can dictate which direction the Court goes in for perhaps 20 years, particularly with eight years in power. Social conservatives are horrified by that.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 20:09

Good point.

AcrossthePond55 · 04/08/2016 20:22

Storm there are very vague rumours starting to go round that the GOP wants to replace Trump with Paul Ryan. Whether that can actually be done or not I don't know. Even The Donald's campaign manager made a 'slip of the lip' shown on the news this morning about backing Ryan for POTUS (when he should have said Speaker of the House).

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 20:32

I think that's wish fulfilment on their part to be honest. The GOP would LOVE to replace Trump with Paul Ryan. They've never wanted Trump. Goodness only knows what a good old hack of the RNC emails would find! But it's very unlikely that they can, certainly against Trump's wishes, and he has too much popular support among Republican voters right now to risk that.

PacificDogwod · 04/08/2016 20:32

Are the commentators on that National Review piece arguing over how many/whether there were flags at the respective conventions? Confused
Flags?
There are no bigger issues than the waving of flags or what their presence or absence appears to indicate?
The mind truly boggles.

AcrossthePond55 · 04/08/2016 20:48

Three I'm sure you're right. Wishful thinking.

Pacific That kind of bullshit is rife here today. It's like little boys comparing the size of their dicks or something. More flags means you're more patriotic, less flags and you're a commie bastard! And God forbid that any politician be caught in public without their little flag pin!!! Seems to me that Obama was raked over the coals for that at some point and even he caved and started wearing one.

The mind boggles, indeed.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 20:49

What article are you reading, Pacific?

Lweji · 04/08/2016 20:55

Ah found the comment.
Some idiot saying Trump is speaking his mind, so he's using the first amendment, so he's patriotic. It beggars belief. But it explains a lot.

claig · 04/08/2016 21:05

Roger Stone said today that Hillary's team "know what is coming and it is devastating". I think he is referring to the Assange wikileaks stuff yet to come out, which is already across youtube but which a lot of the mainstream and Establishment media are not yet reporting.

Stone says it is all a media spin operation by the Establishment, who are of course desperate as usual, about Trump having to stand down etc. Stone says

"Trump is going nowhere, apart from the White House".

World leaders and Davos are desperate. It's all over.

PacificDogwod · 04/08/2016 21:36

Lweji, the link that StorminaBcup posted - read the comments below.

Acrossthepond, I have this theory that everything in life can be explained as a pissing contest Grin
It really would be funny if it was not so serious.

claig, Davos is a lovely town in Switzerland, great skiing. It did not strike me as desperate.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 21:41

Pacific. Don't you mean the one I posted? I found the comment (following post). :)

You never know. People in Davos could be over invested and simply keeping a brave face outside their homes.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 21:47

"Trump is going nowhere, apart from the White House"

News sometime during January 2017:
Security catches desperate male intruder, with small hands and weird long blonde hair for his age, on the grounds of the White House. He tried to run towards the house screaming I know houses, I have the best houses and this is mine, mine.
Clearly the fault lies in the White House not having a bigger wall, preferably paid by losing candidate to the Presidency.

PacificDogwod · 04/08/2016 21:54

Erm, yes, it was indeed your link, Lweji - sorry Blush

Yes, the Swiss are very stoic, of course.

Clearly, I should go to bed Wine

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 22:57

Craig! Hello.

Could you provide YouTube links? I'm interested.

Threesoundslikealot · 04/08/2016 22:59

Surely the route to preserving sanity is never ever to read BTL comments?!

AcrossthePond55 · 04/08/2016 23:09

Lweji Grin

claig · 04/08/2016 23:11

I think this is what Roger Stone is referring to when he said "they know what's coming and it will be devastating". We will have to wait amd see if Assange has anything or not.

"Julian Assange Says He Has ‘Proof’ Hillary Clinton Had a Hand in Arming ISIS"

heatst.com/politics/julian-assange-says-he-has-proof-hillary-clinton-had-a-hand-in-arming-isis/

Lweji · 04/08/2016 23:15

A small hand or a big hand?

Lweji · 04/08/2016 23:17

Clearly, I should go to bed
Yes, and stop stealth boasting about ski resorts. Grin

Threesoundslikealot · 05/08/2016 00:02

Thank you.

Interesting. So arms sent to Syria (possibly misguidedly) may have ended up with ISIS? Believable. Hard to know how relevant the congressional evidence is without more details though.

Trump will nuke them all though. No ambiguity with him!
