What happens if Trump wins?

I know the comments Trump has made about blocking Muslims from the USA, and building a wall between the states and Mexico. But what will the world look like if he becomes president? People seem to be afraid of his success and suggest we 'should push the button now' or that he will be assassinated. Surely he comments are to stir up media interest?

Goodness! I apologise for my appalling grammar.typos Blush

lljkk · 03/08/2016 14:08

Ah man, we have 2 paranoid delusionals now (Claig & Newshoes).

Many Republicans will vote for Clinton because "She's the only adult at the table" as my Wall St. banker cousin put it.

newshoes68 · 03/08/2016 14:24

Gets a reaction and the post read

annandale · 03/08/2016 14:35

Still scrolling past most of the posts, though it's interesting how few conspiracy theories make even a small amount of sense.

It's really encouraging that the nation that voted Obama in twice is now giving Clinton an 8 point lead. I ♥ America.

Lweji · 03/08/2016 15:29

What's "Al khida"?

I hope that was a typo, or I'd be very concerned about knowledge of current affairs. :)

Canyouforgiveher · 03/08/2016 17:33

And they all Hate Obama - not my words .

That says more about your guests than Obama.

Much of the "hatred" of Obama, as opposed to dislike of his policies or disagreement with his politics, is based in racism.

newshoes68 · 03/08/2016 19:35

The black person who made the hate comment said nothing about racism.
Unfortunately your ignorance and narrow mindedness Did.
Shame that's how low you can go.

Cooroo · 03/08/2016 20:06

Just back from a wedding with a lot of Americans, mostly black or Hispanic. All of them thought Trump was a nightmare.

Lweji · 03/08/2016 20:08

I'm curious. Why did that black person (soldier?) hate Obama?
And how old were they?

PacificDogwod · 03/08/2016 20:11

I don't 'hate' Trump (as I don't know him).
I have serious concerns about his suitability for office, his policies (or lack thereof) and his hair colour.
That is all.

needastrongone · 03/08/2016 20:19

In Florida on holiday at present. We've been chatting to various American folk about Brexit and about the election. Haven't heard one person speak in a negative manner re Obama. Most here seem to hope Clinton will win, but in the 'lesser of 2 evils' manner, rather than with enthusiasm.

This is clearly anecdotal and general and in no way indicative of the whole.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 03/08/2016 20:41

Our American friends, who live in the UK but have a vote in the US, love Obama, and hate Trump. Thinking about it, it makes sense. We're really not likely to be friends with Trump fans, as we also love Obama and hate Trump.

I'm terrified of Trump getting in. I read a piece in something like the NY Times where they said a Trump presidency was a genuine risk to the constitution - he's likely to try and run the US like he runs his business ie. by riding roughshod over everyone else.

Whereas Clinton knows her stuff, has worked in law and government for so long it's like she's been training her whole life for it.

helenatroy · 03/08/2016 21:19

Twitter saying watch this space that something serious is happening with Trump. With talk of replacing him. Am searching for news now. Let's hope it's true.

claig · 03/08/2016 21:31

I doubt it is true, just the Establishment Republicans and RINOs trying to help Hillary and sink Trump. We will be seeing much more of this and splits in the Republican camp as the Establishment tries every last despearte trick to save themselves and stop Trump.

The idea will be to get all their media mates to spin the story that Trump is sinking, hoping that the pressure will mount on Trump and that he will cave in. But they have never come across an opponent like Trump. They will have to dream on.

Laura Ingraham tweet. Everbody knows their game.

"Laura Ingraham ‏@IngrahamAngle · 2h2 hours ago

Clintons, Bushes, Buffett, Bloomberg..this alliance shdnt surprise anyone who has followed politics closely over the past 15yrs. #USA"

LineyReborn · 03/08/2016 21:34

Even George Dubya apparently thinks Trump is a fruitcake. That's quite the achievement.

PacificDogwod · 03/08/2016 21:35

claig, how will you fill your time when this election if over?!

'RINO' - I just learnt something from you Grin

claig · 03/08/2016 21:38

'how will you fill your time when this election if over?!'

When Trump wins, things will only get more interesting as Trump has the Establishment on the run.

RINO = Republican in name only (i.e. the Establishment ones)

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 03/08/2016 22:23

Interesting article

Lweji · 03/08/2016 22:37

Very interesting, indeed.

BTW,
Historians, Finchelstein says, agree on a few core traits typical to populists: They use democratic ideals to legitimize a non-democratic style of leadership that delegates all power to them; they divide society into two camps, “the people” and “the elites”; they are proud anti-intellectualists; they reject culture and knowledge in favor of instinct; they promote polarization and demonize their opponents (in a recent example, Trump called Clinton “the devil”); they undermine judiciary, military, and political powers; and they antagonize the free press.

I mentioned it on another thread, claig. Is this what you mean by populist, which you constantly use? Because that's the common definition of populism...

claig · 03/08/2016 22:54

No, that is a misunderstanding of populism. Populism is about handing decision making over to the people rather than the elites who tell the people that they know best, so a Brexit referendum is an example of direct democracy populism.

Populism is the idea that the people have common sense, unlike the "bought and paid for" elites who are merely servants of money and power, and that that is why the people should decide. Populism can be of the left or right, so the battle between Corbyn and the 172 Establishmentarians is a battle of the people versus the puppets and is an example of left wing populism versus the servants of the elite.

claig · 03/08/2016 23:07

Populism emerges throughout history whenever the leites are too remote and out of touch with the people and therefore begin to implement stupid policies that serve their own interest and not the people's.

That is why Cobyn has emerged, that is why Farage and Trump emerged. The 172, Lord Kinnock, Blair and all the rest have put their hopes behind a non-entity called Owen Smith whom they hope will defeat the populist Corbyn who attracts thousands of people to his rallies (because he is in touch with the people) while the near enough the only people who attend Owen Smith rallies are the elite, the BBC, and some Oxbridge graduates being groomed for high office by the Establishment.

Corbyn will beat them because we are in populist times because the servants of the elites (the MPs) are out of touch with the people.

It is the same in America. The Republican Establishment are servants of the banks and globalists and their job is to try and stop Trump and "advise" him how to run his campaign. But Trump is a ntaural populist, in tune with the people, so the last thing he needs is Establishment "advice". He will beat them, just as Corbyn will, just as the Brexiters did because they are and were all populists against an out of touch elite and their servants.

Lweji · 04/08/2016 00:05

Populism is about handing decision making over to the people

Sadly, not.

Canyouforgiveher · 04/08/2016 02:19

The black person who made the hate comment said nothing about racism.

I don't believe that for one moment. Not one. Report my post if you like but that is a lie - that a black american came over to the UK and told you that he/she "hated" Obama. you are lying.

Mind you as I wrote it I did think "bet she will say she is black or her friend is black"

Canyouforgiveher · 04/08/2016 03:12

of course it is possible you are besties with Clarence Thomas visiting a remote part of the UK for a bit of a holiday ... although that is very unfair when I think of it - I doubt even he would say he "hated" President Obama.
