Could somebody explain why Corbyn shouldn't be voted for as Labour party leader?

I've listened to people argue this, but haven't heard a reasoned argument yet. The main criticism appears to be, "he's on the left" but don't go on to explain why that in itself is a bad thing.

"won't end well"
For who? The career politician Blairites?
Great.

thinkingmakesitso · 12/08/2015 21:58

No, for the vulnerable people in this country who need a Labour Party that stands a chance of actually getting elected.

He has every chance.
in 24 hours trade union membership has more than doubled. The Labour website has crashed from 400,000 new members.

It's unprecedented. And for the first time we are seeing people attracted to policies rather than personality.

"The vulnerable people need a Labour party that can win"
They sure do.

The current bunch can't even vote against welfare cuts or against the Tories.

Labour under corbyn can win.
Corbyn

squidzin · 12/08/2015 23:00

It's his policies.
Doesn't matter that he might be too old, get a hernia or loose a limb by the next election (hopefully not of course) He has time to nurture a whole party of "Corbynites" to see through his policies into our future.

5 years is enough time to form a NEW New Labour.

didyouwritethe · 13/08/2015 00:55

The vulnerable people in this country will gain nothing, nada, zilch if one of the other three muppets get elected. It's fantasy to imagine they will.

He wants all Jews in the world killed?! Really? Hmm

I think that actually crosses the line into being libellous... Hysterical nonsense!

Redkite2015 · 13/08/2015 05:00

If would not even be bothered about this leadership vote if just AB, YC and LK were contesting.

Even if TB were contesting, Labour would not be electable. AC and likes should shut up and Labour members and supporters elect who ever they want to be their leader and unite behind however is elected. It is called democracy. Isn't it?

merrymouse · 13/08/2015 05:14

I think Alistair Campbell's 'anyone but Corbyn' says it all. Corbyn may not be electable, but neither are any of the other candidates if their big draw is that they aren't Corbyn.

Lottapianos · 13/08/2015 06:25

Very well said squidzin. Something has to change, Labour have to change - stop being watered down Tories and start being a proper opposition

squidzin · 13/08/2015 07:36

CarolDecker? hahahahahahahahaha thanks for revealing your unhinhged Tory desperation!

squidzin · 13/08/2015 07:37

*Unhinged

Bubblesinthesummer · 13/08/2015 07:38

I could see a Corbyn led labour party splitting, with the Corbyn part merging with the Greens and further left parties

This is what Nellist was saying yesterday that he and his party TUSC, which is left of left, would want to be a part of the party which would basically move it much futher left than even Corbyn is.

RaisinGirls · 13/08/2015 07:48

Some interesting questions posed by the Jewish Chronicle here. www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/142144/the-key-questions-jeremy-corbyn-must-answer - and even more interesting that Corbyn has refused to answer them. Even if he disagrees with each point surely if he wants to be leader of the opposition and a future PM he needs to engage and respond to mainstream media questioning of his policies and positions.

squidzin · 13/08/2015 08:01

If anyone needs it clarified once again...

Corbyn is a Pacifist he does not want anyone to be killed.

He wants to open discourse on how to begin bringing peace to the Palestinians and Isreal and other extreme fanctions in the Middle East.

"Friends" as an introduction to negotiate peace.

squidzin · 13/08/2015 08:09

*factions

squidzin · 13/08/2015 08:13

He founded the Stop The war coalition and was one of the few Labour MPs to vocally oppose Blair's illegal war on Iraq.

squidzin · 13/08/2015 08:17

RaisinGirls he does engage just not to Tabloid Journalism type accusations. Corbyn "engaging and responding" is all over the internet but you need to look past the anti-Corbyn establishment press.

Bubblesinthesummer · 13/08/2015 08:23

So has he 'met' with anyone from Israel then or just Hamas!?

I seriously think that meeting the IRA in parliament a couple of weeks after the bombing was, if I was being generous, misguided. People lost loved ones, Co workers. Whatever your political views are it wasn't the best timing.

YeOldeTrout · 13/08/2015 08:27

Gosh, why so many ridiculous statements. There are plenty solid reasons to not vote for JC without making weird stuff up. Confused

I love his passion, and he's the only candidate talking about the environment. But these are a few reasons I won't be voting for him.

He's a serial rebel against his own party & won't command loyalty or discipline.

I don't agree with free tuition fees (it's a very regressive policy that benefits the affluent far more than the poor).

If you look at the balance in the world of who has Nukes, Britain is one of the few good guys, I don't want one of the few Good Guys to stop having nukes (so I want Britain to keep Trident).

The Living Wage idea is flawed because it will choke the economy (sorry). I like a minimum wage concept but the LW is scary if you understand economics. I like the staggered youth minimum wage because it helps kids like mine get first jobs.

He handled an interview badly with Stephen Nolan the other night (terrorism related) & that plays on my mind.

Isitmebut · 13/08/2015 08:31

Corbyn stuck in the 1970's only 'engages' using old socialist mantras youngster now think are 'new', when those ideas/policies not only failed in the 1970's - the memory of those 1970's to people like me back then in my 20's thinking there was no future for the UK - then kept Labour out of power for 18-years.

This is not a 'scare story' from a Conservative voter who would luv to see Corbyn elected and see Labour's have daily internal bun fights competing with the Chimps Tea Party at Whipsnade Zoo, it is modern history, LOOK IT UP.

Bubblesinthesummer · 13/08/2015 08:31

That was a bad interview, and the first time he was pressed on anything like that, in depth.

Not a master of spin is our man Jeremy, is he?
Has JC said anything about the immigrants at Calais?
