I've just done a political 'what party to support' survey and I'm horrified!

I've only voted in 2 elections, Labour when I was 18 and Lib Dem at the last one, although I was heavily leaning towards Tory but was taken in by the Lib Dem student friendly lies!

The survey has come out as 80% UKIP. This is the last thing I would ever have expected being a Euro fanatic and relying on the EU for h2bs employment and living abroad! The other 20% was LibDem for my views on education. I though I could spot the UKIP policies a mile off but clearly I was very wrong...

So who do I bloody vote for?!

Additional information: I have never been politically minded and its only now whilst I'm starting a new family that I've begun to take an interest and learn more about politics, so I am, I suppose, quite naive in the area. From a very Tory town on London commuter belt and family half strong Tory supporters with a little bit of labour thrown into the mix.

Umlauf - I want to stay in the EU, but the Tories staying in power is unlikely to achieve that. It is imperative, both in respect of the EU and so much else, that the Tories are booted out, however that can be achieved. I'm certainly in favour of tactical voting - though where I live there is almost zero chance of the rich git Cameron look-alike-sound alike not getting back in.

11.11% Lib Dem (immigration)

Looks like I'll have anyone except the BNP :o

I think it's really interesting to see how many people are getting Green results, and yet so few people vote for them. It makes you wonder how much better they would do if people voted on policies rather than dismissing parties they deem as having no chance, or who vote for parties they have traditionally supported etc.

dromedary where I live it will always be Tory, I'm sure, but that doesn't stop me voting. I'm proud of the women who fought for my right to vote, and want to take it seriously and be well informed even if it will always stay conservative!

Umlauf - I totally agree, and taking voting seriously includes tactical voting - doing what it takes to get the party you support into power, or if necessary just what it takes to keep the party you hate most out. The need for tactical voting is caused by the majority vote system. Last time round I tactical voted Liberal, though they're not my favoured party (certainly not now!). If there was a chance of UKIP winning against Tory in our constituency I would probably vote UKIP, though I accept that that stance is not without its dangers (misrepresentation of strength of extreme right wing views).

Last time I did one of these I was mostly Green, so I'm obviously getting old gravitating more to the political middle. Shocked that I chose a Tory policy, but I re-read it and still agree with it.

I did all categories and came out as 33% UKIP, 22% each Lib Dem and Lab, and 11% each Green and Conservative.
What shocked me the most was that I picked the Tory policies for Welfare!! although to be fair, none of them were that good.
What shocked me the next most was that UKIP was my top 'choice' (although thankfully not on Immigration policies).

Last time I voted I voted Green because I thought all the major parties had completely lost the plot. I still haven't really changed my opinion but no longer get to vote as I am no longer resident there.

This link is genius! It shows how people can be quite tunnel-visioned in their thinking, and cautions against not looking deeper into the policies (hence high BNP/UKIP rep on this thread. I hope.).

I was too lazy to do any more that 4 categories, and came out 50% green / 25% lab / 25% UKIP.

I am as far from a UKIP supporter as you could find. But - and OVERT BOAST COMING UP ---> I have met Nigel Farage.

It's heavy going reading all those policies, and I confess to being utterly confused as to what would actually work.

The Tory part was for welfare, which was the hardest section to decide on. It just goes to show that what the parties say they want to do, bears very little resemblance to what they actually do.

I thought the UKIP/BNP ones were obvious too, as they all seemed to say things like " stop NHS money going to health tourists, and "British taxes for British people".
