I'm not quite a frothing berserker but I am getting rather cross with our government messing with the good stuff.

Just off the top of my head:

  • Student fees
  • Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
  • Women (Report on Fawcett legal challenge result here)
  • Sure Start
  • NHS
  • Erosion of employment rights
  • Removal of EMA
  • Removal of universal child benefit
  • Unfair changes to DLA
  • Unfair changes to ESA assessment

I am getting more and more fed up that these decisions are being made to take away some of the things we should be most proud of and that took years to be achieved.

This thread is a safe haven for some ranting as I know some of us are feeling sick and tired of it all.

Spiteful! We got called wankers this morning, got told to go back to work and that he'd love to earn £6k. Was quite amusing as he seemed to be pissed at mid day and not at work...

FontSnob · 30/11/2011 19:17

To be fair, small white cat, they have had a huge amount of time to get something in place, even if the school didn't confirm it's closure until last minute, it's not as though they haven't had time to plan.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 19:18

oh, I dunno, swc...would you describe beleagured low paid workers who are getting the life shafted out of them as "spiteful" because they refused to look after your kids today ?

this strike was meant to cause some disruption

or else...why bother ?

I lost a days pay today. I don't expect it to go un noticed...but I object to being described as "spiteful"

I don't think education is the same as childcare

call me stupid

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/11/2011 19:19

I think a woman describing a day with her kids at her own business as a NIGHTMARE is a twat.

It's NOT about Tories SWC.

It is hard to get to work without "childcare" ie "school"

Perhaps we should all start appreciating the CHILDCARE PROVIDERS ie TEACHERS and ensuring that they have fair pay and pensions rather than ranting ABOUT them?

Pathetic argument and one not welcome on this thread. There are a million threads here deriding public sector workers, deriding those on benefits, those taking tax credits, those forced into poverty.

Join one of those please ( seen you there before>)

DrNortherner · 30/11/2011 19:22

AF I saw those 3 women on day break and felt like hurling my tv through the window at teh 'spiteful' comment. And then the interviewer said 'So no support for teh strikes here in County Durham' What?! He'd only asked 3 people FFS Angry

The press/media slant on this is vile and disturbing.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 19:22

tossers ? swc ? show me where...

the only people getting called names are the people who made a stand today

I said a comment made was a "good'un"

the comparison with "spiteful" is kinda a non-starter

ShirleyKnotThroneOfJudgement · 30/11/2011 19:22

Shit! x=posted with MrsD - Grin

It puts the lotion on it's hands and then the gloves - or it gets the shower again!

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 19:23

DrN...precisely

swc is buying it though Hmm

FontSnob · 30/11/2011 19:25

Not sure anyone called anyone a tosser, or did I miss it? Aside from the man shouting wanker at us this morning.

Signing in, if there is anything good to come out of this it will be getting people more politically engaged.

Direct action is the only thing I can think that might work not sure what though.

KateMiddIeton · 30/11/2011 19:27

Those people who are just complaining about childcare for one day are missing the point SWC and that is what is irritating. The point being that the strikers are just one group out of many who are fed up with the cuts that are affecting all of us.

This is nothing to do with hating Tories. This is everything to do with preserving all that is good and worth saving. How dare the government dismantle our NHS or remove basic employment rights? Not to mention all the other examples on this thread. How DARE they.

This is a support thread for those who have HAD ENOUGH. All are welcome but if you can't play nicely perhaps you should find another thread? There are 1000s.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 19:27

it's like a poster I shall not name who said last night that out of the 2 people she knows who are striking today, that they are both using it as an excuse to go Xmas shopping

a representatative sample ? A reason to tar all strikers with the same brush ?

I think not

more a prompt to examine closely the kind of people who you work/socialise with, perhaps ?

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 19:27

well said shirley.

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 19:28

my tolerance for these types is low. they've got a zillion other threads to pick from.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/11/2011 19:28

The lotion is on the hands beneath the snug little rubber gloves

The other person interviewed this morning in her chi chi cafe was asked how she was coping. Her answer? My mother has the children.

What a nightmare! She had to ....gasp...phone..her....mum....

And whilst I am here... how can a 'damp squib' cause several squillions worth of damage to the country and ruin the lives of billions? Which one is it Dave?

FontSnob · 30/11/2011 19:29

What actually suprised me today was our union rep being suprised by the lack of support shown by the people that he was trying to talk to. Having been frothing about it here has given me a much wider view of how people are reacting.

ShirleyKnotThroneOfJudgement · 30/11/2011 19:30

SWC Why are you here?

The thread title and OP makes it perfectly clear what this thread is about. Easy enough not to click and get yourself in a state.

I'd like to point out, AGAIN, that I'm a private sector worker paying into a private pension (which will be worthless I'm sure by the time I "retire")

IT IS NOT A RACE TO THE BOTTOM

Comparing and complaining is all very well (now) when things are bad, I note that the complaints weren't heading in the same direction while we were in a boom were they?

Hypocritical and frankly, unwelcome here.

As I said before - you like everything happening? Start your own thread proclaiming such - I'm sure you'll have a lovely long thread before too long - as to this one? Leave us alone. We're not hurting you.
