I'm not quite a frothing berserker but I am getting rather cross with our government messing with the good stuff.

Just off the top of my head:

  • Student fees
  • Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
  • Women (Report on Fawcett legal challenge result here)
  • Sure Start
  • NHS
  • Erosion of employment rights
  • Removal of EMA
  • Removal of universal child benefit
  • Unfair changes to DLA
  • Unfair changes to ESA assessment

I am getting more and more fed up that these decisions are being made to take away some of the things we should be most proud of and that took years to be achieved.

This thread is a safe haven for some ranting as I know some of us are feeling sick and tired of it all.

that Lear jet story is mad. It illustrates very clearly whose interests George is protecting.

meanwhile...a public sector pay freeze for how many years? four? that's actually a pretty darned massive cut in salary for a lot of people who aren't paid overly much in the first place

CatIsSleepy · 30/11/2011 11:43

and I can't believe that Labour are not supporting the strike

well i can believe it. but am pretty disgusted by it.

ShirleyKnot · 30/11/2011 11:56

There is no opposition.

razors · 30/11/2011 12:05

@catissleepy It's sickening isn't it? Nurses who have been slogging their guts out for years - teachers daily working above and beyond the call of duty - fireworkers risking their lives daily get shat on my this lot but Lear jet users - you lot are ok - don't worry about the extra tax grrrrrr!!

Ed needs to grow some balls and start telling it as it is - make sure the truth is out there - I've heard from several sources that the extra money raised from PS pensions will be used to pay the deficit - not go in to the pension pot! WTF?

Sunshinetoast · 30/11/2011 12:29

I am just about to follow #frothers on twitter. I am @maryanncv8 and also a member of @coventrywomen. We did a toolkit on women and the cuts with the TUC here which can be used to work out the impact of cuts in your area

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 12:38

hey sunshine - i recognised you over there and followed you Smile

KateMiddIeton · 30/11/2011 12:50

Afternoon all. Welcome to all who've joined. Some good stuff on Twitter and food for thought for the plan.

Thanks for the toolkit Sunshine.

Can I suggest the following tweet/FB status update:

We the unheard are telling you the unelected (Con-Dems) that we have HAD ENOUGH #notinmyname #frothers

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 12:58

sounds good to me kate

LaydeeC · 30/11/2011 13:05

I don't know how to tweet or fb but I am beyond frothing.
I am scared stiff of the damage this evil government is wreaking on society. I have an autistic 14 yo son and I went to bed scared with a very hollow empty feeling in my body last night about how he is going to survive this government. If he is unable to get a job or access benefits, will he just be left to die once I'm dead?
To think that Camoron used his disabled child to lull voters into thinking that he would protect the disabled in this society. He should hang his head in shame.
I am a public sector worker on strike today. What doesn't seem to be getting any attention is the changes that Gidiot is considering to TUPE regulations. As well as the lies told about the cost of the pensions, these changes to terms and conditions will serve only to plump up the public sector for privatisation.
I hate these bastards with every bone in my body. Cunts.

KateMiddIeton · 30/11/2011 13:08

Laydee have you got a link to the TUPE changes please?

I tweeted Ed Miliband a reply to a tweet criticising the government and asked him what he was going to do about it.

No reply.

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 13:43

i have tweeted to him to get off the fence and oppose them and we will back them all the way but we need to see a true opposition

razors · 30/11/2011 14:01

@katemiddieton and swallowedafly I too tweeted MilliE and am waiting for a response - mind you he has been a bit busy with PMQ's - did you read any of it? Call me Dave insulting MilliE calling him Left Wing! Hilarious!!!!

KateMiddIeton · 30/11/2011 14:05

Yes I did enjoy that Left Wing jibe. I'm sure it did Ed the world of good!

In other news... Snow is cold and water is wet.

OP posts:
KateMiddIeton · 30/11/2011 14:07

I doubt Ed does his own tweeting. It'll be an aid.

"Unions: the people who brought you the weekend. And capped working hours. And employment rights and protections. And fair wages. And pensions. And ended child labour. What a bunch of greedy bastards." via Priyamvada Gopal

Via UKUncut - I think with among all the propoganda spouted by the government we forget the good work the unions have done for us......just a little reminder!

razors · 30/11/2011 14:10

@KateMiddleton Smile Who knew eh?

@Katie

^The chancellor signalled further reforms of employment law to help boost business, including regulations covering the pay and conditions of workers when they switched from the public to the private sector.

He outlined plans to look at further measures to make it easier to hire people, including changing the so-called Tupe regulations, which unions argue are vital to ensure that workers do not suffer cuts to pay or worse conditions when their jobs move to private firms.^

It was in the Guardian yesterday www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/nov/29/autumn-statement-george-osborne-unions?INTCMP=SRCH (can't do the re-name the link thingy). I have been searching for something more concrete and will carry on doing so.

The vagueness of it makes me very scared indeed. He is certainly throwing punches at the public sector. And he is certainly getting ready to privatise the public sector. Then we really are in a race to the bottom with private sector fat cats holding all the cards.

I'll say it again, cunts

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 14:40

cunts about sums it up doesn't it?

they're essentially about selling off everything to their chums. look how much we lost under thatcher?

imagine the nhs going the way the railways have?

KateMiddIeton · 30/11/2011 14:43

Thanks LadyeeC I'm an HR person so particularly interested. Have also been TUPE'd when the then government forced the sale of my employer to another bank.

TUPE is such an important right because you have such little control over the ownership of your employer. If you can be sold and your employment contract disregarded that's just a 21st C version of slavery IMHO.

I'll have a read.
